Book Synopsis Durability of Composites in a Marine Environment by : Peter Davies
Download or read book Durability of Composites in a Marine Environment written by Peter Davies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composites are widely used in marine applications. There is considerable experience of glass reinforced resins in boats and ships but these are usually not highly loaded. However, for new areas such as offshore and ocean energy there is a need for highly loaded structures to survive harsh conditions for 20 years or more. High performance composites are therefore being proposed. This book provides an overview of the state of the art in predicting the long term durability of composite marine structures. The following points are covered: • Modelling water diffusion • Damage induced by water • Accelerated testing • Including durability in design • In-service experience. This is essential reading for all those involved with composites in the marine industry, from initial design and calculation through to manufacture and service exploitation. It also provides information unavailable elsewhere on the mechanisms involved in degradation and how to take account of them. Ensuring long term durability is not only necessary for safety reasons, but will also determine the economic viability of future marine structures.

Book Synopsis Vieillessement oxydant des polymères by : VERDU Jacques
Download or read book Vieillessement oxydant des polymères written by VERDU Jacques and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-04-16 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Progress in Durability Analysis of Composite Systems written by K.L. Reifsnider and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite material systems are the basis for much of the natural world around us and are rapidly becoming the basis for many modern engineering components. A controlling feature for the general use of such systems is their damage tolerance, durability and reliability. The present book is a comprehensive cross section of the state of the art in the field of the durability of polymer-based, composite, and adhesive systems. As such, it is of special value to researchers concerned with the frontier of the field, to students concerned with the substance of the subject, and to the applied community concerned with the finding methodologies that make it possible to design safe and durable engineering components using material systems.

Book Synopsis Advanced fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for structural applications by : S. Zainuddin
Download or read book Advanced fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for structural applications written by S. Zainuddin and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-09-30 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this chapter, we report the findings of experimental investigations conducted on durability of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites with and without the addition of montmorillonite nanoclay. First, neat and nanoclay-added epoxy systems were characterized to evaluate the extent of clay platelet exfoliation and dispersion of nanoclay. GFRP composite panels were then fabricated with neat/modified epoxy resin and exposed to six different conditions, i.e. hot-dry/wet, cold-dry/wet, ultraviolet radiation and alternate ultraviolet radiation–condensation. Room temperature condition samples were also used for baseline consideration. An improved dispersion of nanoclay and exfoliation of clay platelets were observed in 2wt% of epoxy samples. Weight change, discoloration and significant reduction in properties were observed in all conditioned GFRP samples. However, addition of nanoclay considerably improved the durability of GFRP samples as evident from the mechanical and micrographical results in comparison to neat samples subjected to similar conditions.
