Book Synopsis Nuclear Physics 3 by : Ibrahima Sakho
Download or read book Nuclear Physics 3 written by Ibrahima Sakho and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-07-16 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Physics 3 presents the applications of various radioisotopes in nuclear medicine, with a focus on radiological imaging methods such as X-rays, γ scintigraphy – PET – MRI and ultrasound, which do not exploit the properties of radiopharmaceuticals. The book then presents the physicochemical and pharmacological properties of radiopharmaceuticals labeled with 99mTc, 201Tl, 18mKr, 18F and the radioisotopes 123I, 125I and 131I used in nuclear medicine. The production chains for the radiotracers studied, as well as their main emissions, are then described in detail, followed by a study of the clearance mechanisms of the radiopharmaceuticals under consideration. Finally, the book describes the principles of myocardial, pulmonary, bone, thyroid, renal and gastric emptying scans using the properties of the radiotracers studied, as well as the principles of prostate brachytherapy using iodine-125 implants and prostate chemotherapy.

Book Synopsis Nuclear Physics 2 by : Ibrahima Sakho
Download or read book Nuclear Physics 2 written by Ibrahima Sakho and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-07-23 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Physics 2 explores the applications of various radioisotopes for dating and nuclear medicine imaging. It introduces the theoretical and experimental facts from the observation of the red shift in the spectrum of galaxies (1913), and the discovery of the cosmic microwave background (1965) that led to the validation of the Big Bang model, through which all known chemical elements are created via nucleosynthesis processes. This introduction is followed by a description of the nuclear reactions involved in primordial, stellar, and explosive. The principles of carbon-14, potassium-argon, uranium-thorium and uranium-protactinium dating, along with the principles of lead-210, caesium-137 and beryllium-7 radiochronometers applied to dating, are also described. An overview of the birth of nuclear medicine is given, from the first use of radioisotopes as tracers in plant biology in 1913, to the development of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) in 1975. The method of synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, quality control of radiopharmaceuticals and the experimental methods of the determination of radiochemical purity are presented. The description of the principles of PET and Single-Photon Emission Tomography (SPECT), the presentation of the different radioisotopes used in TEMPS and PET, as well as the presentation of the main scintigraphies and their uses in nuclear medicine conclude the topics studied.

Book Synopsis Icarus' Second Chance by : Jacques Arnould
Download or read book Icarus' Second Chance written by Jacques Arnould and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-15 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2011: fifty years separate us from the flight of Yuri Gagarin. Fifty years of extraordinary successes, with the kind of apotheosis represented by the first man on the moon; fifty years also of bitter failures, even tragic when they involved the deaths of human beings; finally, fifty years during which space largely contributed to the scientific and technical, political and economic, cultural and social transformation of humanity. This is a critical analysis of the decisions and the actions which constituted and constitute still the field of astronautic activities, to analyse this field's strategies and choices, their consequences on the natural environment and on humans, in short to work out and apply an ethical investigation. This work is the fruit of research carried out by the French Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) over the past ten years, in collaboration with many organisations, astronautical or not: ESA, NASA and especially ESPI.

Download or read book Nuit et jour written by Virginia Woolf and published by Newcomb Livraria Press. This book was released on with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
