Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is concerned with tube vibrations in heat exchangers. It treats the causes of vibrations, the possibilities of allowing for them in the design stage, and recommends ways of suppressing them to acceptable levels. It presents clearly a large body of information on unsteady hydrodynamic processes and the forces acting on the elements of the structures. The recently accumulated data on flow-induced tube vibrations enjoy wide application and are of interest to designers of heat exchangers, as well as for researchers dealing with the problems of fluid dynamics and heat transfer in power plants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vibration of Heat Exchange Tubes due to hydrodynamic fluid coupling is an international problem for Nuclear fuel assemblies etc. on account of frequent failure of Heat exchanger tube, which causes not only expensive repair but a great loss to the plant. Thus, several studies in this field have been made so far. But here, a study of three circular cylindrical tubes in a liquid is done on the analytical approach. The author also describes the various parameters for maximum efficiency of heat transmission from Heat Exchanger's, which is defined as; nH =F (G/R, V) = Heat transmission efficiency of the heat exchanger, where G=gap between two adjoining tubes, R= Radius of cylindrical tubes (if considered of same diameters) and V= fluid flow velocity and geometry of tubes. The relations amongst the above parameters are yet to derive to solve this problem.

It provides an overview of topics such as shape optimization, robust design and aeroelasticity, focusing on fluid-structure numerical methodologies to address static and dynamic aeroelastic problems. It demonstrates that the capability to evaluate the interaction between aerodynamics, inertia and elastic forces is important to avoid drag penalties, control system efficiency loss and generation of potentially dangerous phenomena, such as divergence, control reversal and flutter. The book particularly highlights the advances in “high fidelity” CFD-CSM coupling, describing the latest experimental research to validate the numerical fluid-structure interaction analysis methodologies resulting from the EU-funded RBF4AERO and RIBES projects.

Book excerpt: Explains the mechanisms governing flow-induced vibrations and helps engineers prevent fatigue and fretting-wear damage at the design stage Fatigue or fretting-wear damage in process and plant equipment caused by flow-induced vibration can lead to operational disruptions, lost production, and expensive repairs. Mechanical engineers can help prevent or mitigate these problems during the design phase of high capital cost plants such as nuclear power stations and petroleum refineries by performing thorough flow-induced vibration analysis. Accordingly, it is critical for mechanical engineers to have a firm understanding of the dynamic parameters and the vibration excitation mechanisms that govern flow-induced vibration. Flow-Induced Vibration Handbook for Nuclear and Process Equipment provides the knowledge required to prevent failures due to flow-induced vibration at the design stage. The product of more than 40 years of research and development at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, this authoritative reference covers all relevant aspects of flow-induced vibration technology, including vibration failures, flow velocity analysis, vibration excitation mechanisms, fluidelastic instability, periodic wake shedding, acoustic resonance, random turbulence, damping mechanisms, and fretting-wear predictions. Each in-depth chapter contains the latest available lab data, a parametric analysis, design guidelines, sample calculations, and a brief review of modelling and theoretical considerations. Written by a group of leading experts in the field, this comprehensive single-volume resource: Helps readers understand and apply techniques for preventing fatigue and fretting-wear damage due to flow-induced vibration at the design stage Covers components including nuclear reactor internals, nuclear fuels, piping systems, and various types of heat exchangers Features examples of vibration-related failures caused by fatigue or fretting-wear in nuclear and process equipment Includes a detailed overview of state-of-the-art flow-induced vibration technology with an emphasis on two-phase flow-induced vibration Covering all relevant aspects of flow-induced vibration technology, Flow-Induced Vibration Handbook for Nuclear and Process Equipment is required reading for professional mechanical engineers and researchers working in the nuclear, petrochemical, aerospace, and process industries, as well as graduate students in mechanical engineering courses on flow-induced vibration.

Book excerpt: Information on the most common flow-induced vibration problems in power and process plant components. Based on the author's own experience that most errors in engineering analysis come from confusions in the units, the author begins with a short chapter on units and dimensions. He then provides step-by-step examples in dual US and SI units, leading to the final objective of design analysis, problem solving, diagnosis and trouble shooting.
