Book excerpt: This book presents a psychotherapy intervention model called Multimodal Integrative Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MICST). It is grounded in information processing and cognitive stimulation techniques and operates out of a positive psychology framework. This model, designed for group work with clients with schizophrenia, can be easily tailored to working with clients in individual therapy sessions. The three core MICST group activities include: 1) body movement-mindfulness-relaxation (BMR); 2) cognitive stimulation using group discussions; and 3) cognitive stimulation using paper-pencil cognitive exercises and self-reflection exercises. A chapter is devoted to each of these core areas with actual case vignettes to illustrate ways that these activities can be implemented in clinical practice. Homework recommendations are included at the end of each chapter, devoted to a core MICST group activity and providing suggestions on ways to practice various skills and exercises in between group sessions. Also provided are several handouts and worksheets which can be used with clients.

This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 725 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains the Proceedings of the 2010 Conference of the Italian Systems Society. Papers deal with the interdisciplinary study of processes of changing related to a wide variety of specific disciplinary aspects. Classical attempts to deal with them, based on generalising approaches used to study the movement of bodies and environmental influence, have included ineffective reductionistic simplifications. Indeed changing also relates, for instance, to processes of acquisition and varying properties such as for software; growing and aging biological systems; learning/cognitive systems; and socio-economic systems growing and developing through innovations. Some approaches to modelling such processes are based on considering changes in structure, e.g., phase-transitions. Other approaches are based on considering (1) periodic changes in structure as for processes of self-organisation; (2) non-periodic but coherent changes in structure, as for processes of emergence; (3) the quantum level of description. Papers in the book study the problem considering its transdisciplinary nature, i.e., systemic properties studied per se and not within specific disciplinary contexts. The aim of these studies is to outline a transdisciplinary theory of change in systemic properties. Such a theory should have simultaneous, corresponding and eventually hierarchical disciplinary aspects as expected for a general theory of emergence. Within this transdisciplinary context, specific disciplinary research activities and results are assumed to be mutually represented as within a philosophical and conceptual framework based on the theoretical centrality of the observer and conceptual non-separability of context and observer, related to logically open systems and Quantum Entanglement. Contributions deal with such issues in interdisciplinary ways considering theoretical aspects and applications from Physics, Cognitive Science, Biology, Artificial Intelligence, Economics, Architecture, Philosophy, Music and Social Systems.

Book excerpt: London, New York, Paris, Milan ... The very mention of Milan by name evokes modern design, elegance and luxury. Milan is without a doubt the most influential city in the world in terms of design and it intends to stay that way. The Milanese’s unique flair for combining commerce with a respect for good design has made it a must-do show venue for premier fashion and product designers, as well as the site of the world’s most prestigious furniture fair. With the new millennium Milan has entered one of the most exciting periods of its urban development. Alongside interventions on a large scale, like the stunning new Milan Trade Fair by Massimiliano Fuksas and the Santa Giulia Apartments by Foster and Partners, Milan is also rediscovering its natural talent for interior design in a number of innovative projects. It is precisely this renewed energy that Design City Milan evokes by showcasing 40 of the most recent interior design projects: gems of understated elegance, such as the Hotel Bulgari by Antonio Citterio and the Prada shop in the Galleria; new concept, lifestyle stores like 10 Corso Como and 11 Store; contemporary dining spaces like Shu and Maru; truly luxurious relaxing zones like the spas designed for Culti and Ferré; cultural strongholds like the Bocconi University and the new headquarters of Abitare; revolutionary premises such as the Hotel Nhow and Gold, the new restaurant by Dolce & Gabbana; more intimate and private spaces, like the residences of Fabio Novembre and Mario Bellini...
