This book was released on 2010-11-19 with total page 723 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems' Verification Validation and Testing (VVT) are carried out throughout systems' lifetimes. Notably, quality-cost expended on performing VVT activities and correcting system defects consumes about half of the overall engineering cost. Verification, Validation and Testing of Engineered Systems provides a comprehensive compendium of VVT activities and corresponding VVT methods for implementation throughout the entire lifecycle of an engineered system. In addition, the book strives to alleviate the fundamental testing conundrum, namely: What should be tested? How should one test? When should one test? And, when should one stop testing? In other words, how should one select a VVT strategy and how it be optimized? The book is organized in three parts: The first part provides introductory material about systems and VVT concepts. This part presents a comprehensive explanation of the role of VVT in the process of engineered systems (Chapter-1). The second part describes 40 systems' development VVT activities (Chapter-2) and 27 systems' post-development activities (Chapter-3). Corresponding to these activities, this part also describes 17 non-testing systems' VVT methods (Chapter-4) and 33 testing systems' methods (Chapter-5). The third part of the book describes ways to model systems' quality cost, time and risk (Chapter-6), as well as ways to acquire quality data and optimize the VVT strategy in the face of funding, time and other resource limitations as well as different business objectives (Chapter-7). Finally, this part describes the methodology used to validate the quality model along with a case study describing a system's quality improvements (Chapter-8). Fundamentally, this book is written with two categories of audience in mind. The first category is composed of VVT practitioners, including Systems, Test, Production and Maintenance engineers as well as first and second line managers. The second category is composed of students and faculties of Systems, Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering schools. This book may be fully covered in two to three graduate level semesters; although parts of the book may be covered in one semester. University instructors will most likely use the book to provide engineering students with knowledge about VVT, as well as to give students an introduction to formal modeling and optimization of VVT strategy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent rise of "smart" products has been made possible through tight co-design of hardware and software. The growing amount of software and hence processors in applications all around us allows for increased flexibility in the application functionality through its life cycle. Not so long ago a device felt outdated after you owned it for a couple of months. Today, a continuous stream of new software applications and updates make products feel truly "smart". The result is an almost magical user experience where the same product can do more today than it could do yesterday.

In this book we dive deep into a key methodology to enable concurrent hardware/software development by decoupling the dependency of the software development from hardware availability: virtual prototyping. The ability to start software development much earlier in the design cycle drives a true "shift-left" of the entire product development schedule and results in better products that are available earlier in the market.

Throughout the book, case studies illustrate how virtual prototypes are being deployed by major companies around the world. If you are interested in a quick feel for what virtual prototyping has to offer for practical deployment, we recommend picking a few case studies to read, before diving into the details of the methodology.

Of course, this book can only offer a small snapshot of virtual prototype use cases for faster software development. However, as most software bring-up, debug and test principles are similar across markets and applications, it is not hard to realize why virtual prototypes are being leveraged whenever software is an intrinsic part of the product functionality, after reading this book.

Book excerpt: High-Speed Serial Interface (HSSI) devices have become widespread in communications, from the embedded to high-performance computing systems, and from on-chip to a wide haul. Testing of HSSIs has been a challenging topic because of signal integrity issues, long test time and the need of expensive instruments. Accelerating Test, Validation and Debug of High Speed Serial Interfaces provides innovative test and debug approaches and detailed instructions on how to arrive to practical test of modern high-speed interfaces. Accelerating Test, Validation and Debug of High Speed Serial Interfaces first proposes a new algorithm that enables us to perform receiver test more than 1000 times faster. Then an under-sampling based transmitter test scheme is presented. The scheme can accurately extract the transmitter jitter and finish the whole transmitter test within 100ms, while the test usually takes seconds. The book also presents and external loopback-based testing scheme, where and FPGA-based BER tester and a novel jitter injection technique are proposed. These schemes can be applied to validate, test and debug HSSIs with data rate up to 12.5Gbps at a lower test cost than pure ATE solutions. In addition, the book introduces an efficieng scheme to implement high performance Gaussian noise generators, suitable for evaluating BER performance under noise conditions.

But those in cyber-physical systems (combining software, hardware, and firmware) think it is risky. But with today's speed of change, maybe the risk is in not changing. Industrial DevOps: Build Better Systems Faster shows readers how applying Agile and DevOps ways of working into cyber-physical systems presents the opportunity to reap huge rewards, including increased adaptability, shorter delivery schedules, reduced development cost, increased quality, and higher transparency into delivery. This book shows you how to couple the results of Agile and DevOps implementation in development with Lean and Agile in manufacturing. Through a successful application of 9 key principles, Industrial DevOps provides the foundational success patterns for the development of cyber-physical systems in the digital age. The benefits that have been obtained across industries can be transferred to the cyber-physical domain and they have the potential to provide an even greater impact in the delivery of products.

Book excerpt: This book contains the best papers of the 10th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS 2008), held in the city of Barcelona (Spain), organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Com- nication (INSTICC) in cooperation with AAAI and co-sponsored by WfMC. ICEIS has become a major point of contact between research scientists, engineers and practitioners in the area of business applications of information systems. This year, five simultaneous tracks were held, covering different aspects related to enterprise computing, including: “Databases and Information Systems Integration,” “Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Systems,” “Information Systems Analysis and Specification,” “Software Agents and Internet Computing” and “Human–Computer Interaction.” All tracks focused on real-world applications and highlighted the benefits of information systems and technology for industry and services, thus making a bridge between academia and enterprise. Following the success of 2007, ICEIS 2008 received 665 paper submissions from more than 40 countries. In all, 62 papers were published and presented as full papers, i.e., completed work (8 pages in proceedings / 30-min oral presentations), and 183 papers, reflecting work-in-progress or position papers, were accepted for short pr- entation and another 161 for poster presentation.
