Book Synopsis Distribution Planning and Control by : David F. Ross
Download or read book Distribution Planning and Control written by David F. Ross and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When work began on the first volume ofthis text in 1992, the science of dis tribution management was still very much a backwater of general manage ment and academic thought. While most of the body of knowledge associated with calculating EOQs, fair-shares inventory deployment, productivity curves, and other operations management techniques had long been solidly established, new thinking about distribution management had taken a definite back-seat to the then dominant interest in Lean thinking, quality management, and business process reengineering and their impact on manufacturing and service organizations. For the most part, discussion relating to the distri bution function centered on a fairly recent concept called Logistics Manage ment. But, despite talk of how logistics could be used to integrate internal and external business functions and even be considered a source of com petitive advantage on its own, most of the focus remained on how companies could utilize operations management techniques to optimize the traditional day-to-day shipping and receiving functions in order to achieve cost contain ment and customer fulfillment objectives. In the end, distribution manage ment was, for the most part, still considered a dreary science, concerned with oftransportation rates and cost trade-offs. expediting and the tedious calculus Today, the science of distribution has become perhaps one of the most im portant and exciting disciplines in the management of business.
Book Synopsis The Sustainment Battle Staff & Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) Guide by : Dr. John M. Menter, COL (Ret)
Download or read book The Sustainment Battle Staff & Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) Guide written by Dr. John M. Menter, COL (Ret) and published by Author House. This book was released on 2009-05-28 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2004, the US Army has started a revolution of reorganization and doctrine development throughout its Combat, Combat Support and especially Combat Service Support “logistics” organizations, known as “Transformation.” In the logistics or “Sustainment” arena, the Army’s concept towards supporting other units has changed from the old “out-stockpile” the enemy concept towards a system used by modern civilian distributors – “Just-In-Time” sustainment, leaving planning and synchronizing throughput of commodities and support to the customer with little margin of error. To successfully accomplish this, Sustainment planners must thoroughly understand the Military Decision Making Process or “MDMP” for short. Conducting a Sustainment oriented MDMP is essential in integrating the Sustainment War Fighting Functional Area into the unit’s plan and for ensuring a synchronized and supportable course of action. Successful integration is a result of having the right personnel, available tools, correct MDMP methodology, and synchronized timeline throughout the process. If this guide can assist logistics’ planners in accomplishing this process, then it has accomplished its intent and mission.

Book Synopsis The Process of Military Distribution Management by : James H. Henderson
Download or read book The Process of Military Distribution Management written by James H. Henderson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a guide for Logistician's (military or civilian) in the execution of Movement Control and Distribution Management. - Provides examples of procedures and guidance utilized by our armed forces operating in Iraq to date, as well as being reviewed as emerging doctrine for the future. - Presents information for staff management that incorporates manual and automated procedures to monitor and track movement and commodities on today's modern battlefields. - Provides a process to utilize data from different automation systems, which do not talk to one another, as well as incorporates manual procedures to develop a system to monitor and track movement and commodities on today's modern battlefields. By doing this, we have provided the commander with a focused staff battle rhythm that works. Due to the Army Transformation and Spiral Development, there is a lack of documentation on just how to interpret and implement the new concepts and automation applications, and synchronize their usage and development. Many of the ideas and process in this book have not advanced beyond the conjectural level. The work covered is an initial effort to make operational these new ideas and procedures and provide them as training in a classroom and wartime environment. The uniqueness of the logistical mission and the technology of these services, this book may be guided towards a rather select audience. But due to the tactics and methods being used by our enemies in the field, it is important to understand that at all levels, the ability to have visibility and command and control of movement within our battle space is essential.
