Book excerpt: Dishonesty does not pay, and in the wake of headlines involving the likes of Enron, WorldCom and Tyco, organizations need to establish ways of maintaining cultures where open, honest communication is the norm. This handbook demonstrates how readers can maintain an environment in which employees speak their mind without fearing reprisal, and truthfulness and accountability show themselves for what they are: business assets. The authors offer a toolbox of strategies that can be used to improve an organization's ability to confront and resolve difficult issues. Provocative and sensitive issues are also addressed, including dealing with a difficult or even dishonest boss, "agreeing to disagree", and accepting criticism without becoming defensive. Many examples, both positive and negative, are given, along with scenarios, anecdotes and quotations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past 30 years, many social psychologists have been critical of the practice of using incentive systems in business, education, and other applied settings. The concern is that money, high grades, prizes, and even praise may be effective in getting people to perform an activity but performance and interest are maintained only so long as the reward keeps coming. Once the reward is withdrawn, the concern is that individuals will enjoy the activity less, perform at a lower level, and spend less time on the task. The claim is that rewards destroy people's intrinsic motivation. Widely accepted, this view has been enormously influential and has led many employers, teachers, and other practitioners to question the use of rewards and incentive systems in applied settings. Contrary to this view, the research by Cameron and Pierce indicates that rewards can be used effectively to enhance interest and performance. The book centers around the debate on rewards and intrinsic motivation. Based on historical, narrative, and meta-analytic reviews, Cameron and Pierce show that, contrary to many claims, rewards do not have pervasive negative effects. Instead, the authors show that careful arrangement of rewards enhances motivation, performance, and interest. The overall goal of the book is to draw together over 30 years of research on rewards, motivation, and performance and to provide practitioners with techniques for designing effective incentive systems.

Book excerpt: This book gives you a comprehensive introduction to rewards in general and project team rewards in particular. Motivation theories and their impact on designing a reward system are explained. Throughout the book six so-called 'reward questions' are considered that need to be answered for designing a reward system. These reward questions are: Rewarding or not rewarding? Whom to reward? What to reward? What kind of reward? How much reward? When to reward? In addition, impacts of variable factors that may influence the answers to the reward questions are identified and explained. Some of those factors are employee's age, the company's culture but also project characteristics such as goal clarity, applied success criteria, project duration or member fluctuation. Please note that this book originally was written as a Master's Thesis. Accordingly, you should not expect to read a 'normal' text book but a Master's Thesis. Book excerpt: My motivation in writing this book stems from a deep belief that work is a divine mandate given to us by our Creator. When we understand our work as a reflection of God's image, as a means of serving others, and as a platform for personal and spiritual growth, we can approach our vocations with renewed enthusiasm and purpose. Moreover, by recognizing that God is actively present and involved in our work, and that He rewards our efforts according to His perfect wisdom and timing, we can find inspiration, encouragement, and motivation to pursue our calling with diligence and integrity. Through the pages of this book, I will draw upon biblical teachings, theological reflections, personal experiences, and practical insights to guide you in discovering the rewards embedded within your work. I firmly believe that by embracing God's perspective on work, you will not only be empowered to achieve success in your profession but also find a deeper sense of fulfillment, purpose, and ultimate rewards that extend far beyond the temporal. Also the concept of "God rewards work" can be a powerful way to explore the relationship between faith, hard work, and personal fulfillment.
