This book was released on 1994 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LA VALIDATION PROBABILISTE PAR SIMULATION GUIDEE A EVENEMENTS RARES EST UNE NOUVELLE APPROCHE DE VALIDATION DE SYSTEMES COMPLEXES, SURS DE FONCTIONNEMENT, SECURITAIRES ET DISTRIBUES. ELLE REPOSE SUR UNE ANALYSE PARTIELLE D'UN MODELE DU SYSTEME ET TENTE DE PROUVER QUE LA NON VERIFICATION DE PROPRIETES DE BON FONCTIONNEMENT, SUR UNE DUREE D'UTILISATION DONNEE, A UNE PROBABILITE SUFFISAMMENT FAIBLE. UN COMPORTEMENT INCORRECT (DU POINT DE VUE DES PROPRIETES REQUISES) EST UN EVENEMENT RARE DANS LA VIE DE CES SYSTEMES. LORSQU'IL SE PRODUIT IL EST LA CONSEQUENCE D'UN ENCHAINEMENT D'EVENEMENTS COMPLEXES, INCONNUS ET PAR CONSEQUENT DIFFICILES A APPREHENDER. LE SYSTEME A VALIDER EST MODELISE PAR UN RESEAU DE PETRI STOCHASTIQUE. UNE SIMULATION EFFICACE DU RESEAU DE PETRI DOIT ETRE CAPABLE D'ECHANTILLONNER DES TRAJECTOIRES (SEQUENCES DE FRANCHISSEMENT) COMPLEXES ET IMPROBABLES MENANT AUX MARQUAGES D'ECHEC (POUR LESQUELS LA PROPRIETE A VALIDER N'EST PAS VERIFIEE). PAR CONSEQUENT DEUX PROBLEMES SE POSENT: DANS LE PREMIER PROBLEME LES SEQUENCES DE TIR DES TRANSITIONS SUSCEPTIBLES DE CONDUIRE A L'ECHEC (SEQUENCES CRITIQUES) DOIVENT ETRE CARACTERISEES A PARTIR D'UNE ANALYSE STRUCTURELLE ET QUALITATIVE DU RESEAU DE PETRI. DE LA MATRICE D'INCIDENCE DU RESEAU ET DES SPECIFICATIONS DES PROPRIETES A VERIFIER, ON ETABLIT UN SYSTEME D'EQUATIONS LINEAIRES APPELE SYSTEME DE DECISION. L'ENSEMBLE DES SOLUTIONS DE CE SYSTEME COMPREND TOUS LES VECTEURS CARACTERISTIQUES DES SEQUENCES CRITIQUES. LE SECOND PROBLEME EST D'AUGMENTER LA PROBABILITE DE CES SEQUENCES DE FACON A LES PARCOURIR AVEC UNE FREQUENCE SUFFISANTE AU COURS DE L'ECHANTILLONNAGE PAR SIMULATION. UNE METHODE D'ECHANTILLONNAGE PREFERENTIEL EST UTILISEE POUR ACCROITRE CETTE PROBABILITE ET POUR CONSTRUIRE UN ESTIMATEUR CORRECT DU NIVEAU DE LA VALIDATION REALISEE. UN ALGORITHME DE SIMULATION EST DEVELOPPE ET IMPLEMENTE. IL UTILISE DES PROCEDURES QUALITATIVES BASEES SUR DIFFERENTES STRATEGIES DE GUIDAGE ET DES PROCEDURES QUANTITATIVES D'ECHANTILLONNAGE SELON DIFFERENTES APPROCHES. NOUS MONTRONS L'EFFICACITE DE LA VALIDATION PROBABILISTE PAR LES TECHNIQUES DEVELOPPEES SUR DEUX APPLICATIONS INDUSTRIELLES

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L'OBJET DE CETTE THESE EST L'ELABORATION DES PROCEDURES DE DIAGNOSTIC DE PANNES DANS LES GRANDS SYSTEMES REPARTIS. EN PARTICULIER, NOUS NOUS INTERESSONS A DES PROBLEMES ACTUELS DE LA GESTION DE PANNES ET DE LA CORRELATION D'ALARMES POSES DANS LES RESEAUX DE TELECOMMUNICATIONS. L'IDEE PRINCIPALE DE L'APPROCHE QUE NOUS DEVELOPPONS CONSISTE A INCORPORER LES ASPECTS CONJOINTS DE TEMPS ET DE CAUSALITE DANS UN CADRE QUI PRESERVE INTRINSEQUEMENT LA NATURE REPARTIE DU PROBLEME. EN PARTICULIER, UN TEL FORMALISME NE DOIT PAS REPOSER SUR UNE NOTION D'HORLOGE GLOBALE, CAR ELLE EST SOUVENT IMPOSSIBLE DE REALISER DANS LES GRANDS SYSTEMES REPARTIS. A CETTE FIN, NOUS PROPOSONS L'UTILISATION DES RESEAUX DE PETRI (RDP) AVEC LEUR SEMANTIQUE DE CONCURRENCE VRAIE QUI DONNE UNE NOTION DE TEMPS PARTIELLEMENT ORDONNE. ETANT DONNEES LES OBSERVATIONS D'ALARMES, LE PROBLEME DE DIAGNOSTIC CONSISTE A RECHERCHER LA PROPAGATION SOUS-JACENTE DE PANNES EN DEPLIANT LE RDP. EN ASSOCIANT DES PROBABILITES CONDITIONNELLES A LA PRODUCTION D'ALARMES PAR DES TRANSITIONS, NOUS NOUS PLACONS DANS UN CADRE GENERAL DE HMM (HIDDEN MARKOV MODELS). NOUS EVITONS POURTANT LA DYNAMIQUE MARKOVIENNE DE CES MODELES EN PROPOSANT UN CADRE DE PROBABILISATION ORIGINAL : RDP PARTIELLEMENT STOCHASTIQUE QUI N'IMPOSE PAS UNE INTERACTION STOCHASTIQUE ENTRE LES EVENEMENTS CONCURRENT ET CORRESPOND PARFAITEMENT A LA SEMANTIQUE D'ORDRE PARTIEL DU RDP. LA RAISON D'ETRE PRINCIPALE DE CE FORMALISME EST LE BESOIN D'ETABLIR UNE EQUIVALENCE ENTRE LA CONCURRENCE ET L'INDEPENDANCE STOCHASTIQUE AFIN DE RESPECTER LA NATURE REPARTIE DU SYSTEME. EN OUTRE, DANS L'ALGORITHME DE DIAGNOSTIC CELA EVITE L'EXPLORATION EXPLICITE DE L'ESPACE D'ETAT CAR SEULS LES CONTEXTES LOCAUX DEVIENNENT DECISIFS POUR UNE PROPAGATION D'EVENEMENTS ET POUR L'ESTIMATION DE SA VRAISEMBLANCE. NOUS AVONS DEVELOPPE DES PROCEDURES DE DIAGNOSTIC REPARTI SUR LES CAPTEURS LOCAUX. LES OBSERVATIONS D'ALARMES SONT D'ABORD TRAITEES LOCALEMENT EN UTILISANT DES TECHNIQUES DE PROGRAMMATION DYNAMIQUE, PUIS DES ALARMES INTELLIGENTES RESUMANT CES PRE-DIAGNOSTICS SONT COMMUNIQUEES A UN SUPERVISEUR CENTRAL QUI FUSIONNE CES INFORMATIONS EN PROPOSANT DES SOLUTIONS A NIVEAU GLOBAL.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multistage stochastic optimization problems appear in many ways in finance, insurance, energy production and trading, logistics and transportation, among other areas. They describe decision situations under uncertainty and with a longer planning horizon. This book contains a comprehensive treatment of today’s state of the art in multistage stochastic optimization. It covers the mathematical backgrounds of approximation theory as well as numerous practical algorithms and examples for the generation and handling of scenario trees. A special emphasis is put on estimation and bounding of the modeling error using novel distance concepts, on time consistency and the role of model ambiguity in the decision process. An extensive treatment of examples from electricity production, asset liability management and inventory control concludes the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whenever radioactivity is released to the atmosphere, for example by the detonation of nuclear weapons or the testing of nuclear weapons or from nuclear reactor accidents that fraction of it which remains airborne for more than a few hours is liable to be attached to aerosol particles. The resulting radioactive aerosols are carried by atmospheric mixing processes until they settle out or are scavenged by precipitation. The radiation exposure pathway of maximum concern to humans is by inhalation of aerosols and their deposition in the respiratory tract. In this context, it is important to note that radioactive aerosols are commonly of natural origin alos. In particular, the associated radionuclides can be of natural terrestrial origin, such as the decay products of radon gas, or they can e cosmogenic, such as beryllium-7. The exposure of miners of uranium and other ores and minerals to radon and its aerosol-borne decay products is of major significance. The book describes the formation of aerosols, their aerodynamic size distribution, their atmospheric residence time, their sampling and measurement, the range of radioactive aerosols found and studied thus far, including man-made nuclides and radon decay products and their interaction with man, including deposition in the lung and subsequent health effects. - Advanced level science handbook for researchers, scientists and academics - Covers all aspects of radiation exposure in humans, including subsequent health implications - Presents the latest findings and analysis in this highly topical area

The approach is a linguistic one: the different aspects of the English used in the field of agriculture (agricultural practices, agricultural systems) and in some fields related to agriculture (agricultural zoology, agri-tourism, biology, botany, ecology, entomology, gastronomy, land measurement, plant pathology, zoology) are analysed from a morphological (combination, derivation), syntactical (nominal phrases, verbal phrases), lexical and lexicographical, semantic (homonymy, semantic fields, synonymy, terminology), pragmatic (academic discourse, idiom, metaphor), etymological (etymon, Latin heritage), and contrastive (English–Croatian, English–French, English–German, English–Romanian, Romanian–English) points of view. The book will appeal to agriculturists, animal breeders, professors, researchers, students, and translators from Croatian-, English-, French-, German-, and Romanian-speaking countries, active in their own countries or abroad. The types of academic readership it would appeal to include academic teaching staff, researchers and students in the fields of agriculture and related fields – agricultural zoology, agri-tourism, biology, botany, ecology, entomology, gastronomy, land measurement, plant pathology, and zoology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October 1982, a small international symposium was held at the Gesellschaft fUr Strahlen- und Umweltforschung mbH (GSF) in Munich as a satellite meeting of the IX International Conference on Analytical Cytology. The symposium focussed on cytometric approaches to biological dosimetry, and was, to the best of our knowledge, the first meeting on this subject ever held. There was strong encouragement from the 75 attendees and from others to publish a proceedings of the symposium. Hence this book, containing 30 of the 36 presentations, has been assembled. Dosimetry, the accurate and systematic determination of doses, usually refers to grams of substance administered or rads of ionization or some such measure of exposure of a patient, a victim or an experimental system. The term also can be used to describe the quantity of an ultimate, active agent as delivered to the appropriate target material within a biological system. Thus, for mutagens, one can speak of DNA dosimetry, meaning the number of adducts produced in the DNA of target cells such as bone-mar row stem cells or spermatogonia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book carefully and thoroughly analyses the legal questions raised by the phenomenon of terrorism, and past and recent efforts to fight it, from the perspective of international humanitarian law (IHL). The objective is to substantially contribute to a better understanding of the issues surrounding the content and applicability of IHL as it applies to terrorism as well as to analyse and contextualise the current debates on these controversial and critically important questions. While due heed is paid to doctrinal debates, particular emphasis is placed on the practice of social actors, particularly, although not exclusively, States. The analysis of their actual conduct as well as their expectations about the interpretation and application of the law is crucial to establishing an interpretive consensus on when and how IHL is relevant to regulate acts of terrorism. The approach of the book is analytical and discursive, rather than prescriptive. Thus the reader will find the relevant rules of IHL and other legal regimes as regards terrorism, but also the debates over their application, the contradictions in State practice and the impact these may have upon IHL's evolution and implementation. The aim is to provide legal practitioners, as well as those in military, political and academic circles, with a useful reference point. Hopefully the book will also prove useful to other readers who will find its content and easy-to-read style an encouragement to getting acquainted with a topical subject, traditionally thought to be reserved for legal specialists. This book was cited with approval by the US Court of Appeals in Salim Ahmed Hamdan v United States of America, 16th October 2012
