Book excerpt: Chromic acid and chromium oxide are the two versatile Cr(VI) oxidants known to organic chemists for decades. The introduction of the Core's reagent , viz: pyridinium chlorochromate, in 1975 followed by the publications on several Cr(VI) oxidizing agents containing the -onium chromates and halochromates in the last three decades have very much changed the chemistry of oxidations with Chromium VI. Several of these new reagents have been shown to be mild so that they can be handled easily and the reacton products may also be controlled. Some of them are highly selective oxidants for positions like allylic hydroxylic group, etc., and some other are highly regioselective. The information on more than 36 such reagents reported in various internationally reputed journals spanning about 280 references have been collected and provided in this book in such a manner that it will be very useful for professionals, researchers, teachers and graduate students working in organic synthesis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a collection of the latest research on ayurveda by an international group of leading historians of medicine and Indian culture. The book begins with papers by C Pecchia and P A Maas that reveal some of their discoveries resulting from their work on a critical edition of the Vimanasthana of the Carakasamhita. K Preisandanz presents a study of the early phases of formal Indian philosophy in the Carakasamhita arising out of the same project. D Wujastyk reports on the recent discovery of a Nepalese manuscript of the Sushrutasamhita that pushes back our physical evidence for the text by almost a thousand years. A Cerulli discusses the interplay of medicine, government, and religion in an 18th-century Sanskrit allegorical play. K G Zysk discusses the Siddha tradition of medicine and alchemy in Tamil Nadu, and his co-authored chapter with T Yamashita reports on their progress in editing and translating an early commentary on the Carakasamhita.M Sankaranarayana discusses the relationship of clinical practice and ayurvedic theory in modern Kerala, and P Ram Manohar explores the combinatorics of Indian pharmacology in an innovative 13th-century Keralan ayurvedic text. The meticulous studies in this book advance the boundaries of the modern knowledge of ayurveda. At the same time, they demonstrate a range of original methodologies for deepening our understanding of this scholarly, traditional medicine of South Asia, while also directly speaking to the unique problems presented by the modern reception of Sanskrit medical works after centuries of manuscript transmission.

While Ayurveda is easy to implement, its concepts and Sanskrit terms are often confusing. In Ayurvedic Nutrition, however, Atreya has explained them clearly and lucidly. It is, therefore, the most accessible book on Ayurveda to date. For anyone who has struggled with one-size-fits-all diet fads, it offers a welcome relief with its comprehensive approach to nutrition adapted to every body type. Beginning with a self-test to determine the specific metabolic and psychological profile, the book emphasizes the importance of balance among all levels of the healing process-mind, body, and spirit. It then presents clear guidelines for choosing foods and making lifestyle choices to support a natural, healthy state and avoid those practices that disrupt the natural metabolic balance. Drawn from the author's twenty-five years of practicing natural medicine, the book is highlighted by case studies, which illuminate the healing and balancing powers of Ayurveda. From weight loss to the reversal of disease, the programs outlined in this practical and inspirational book will help anyone recover natural rhythms and restore inherent balance.
Download or read book Yogaratnākara written by Āśā Kumārī and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 1391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yogaratnakara the book of mid seventeenth century, written by yet unknown author, but extremely well known in the Ayurvedic world, is like a sun, throwing light on all aspects of ayurveda not seen in any other available book on ayurveda, however, since the book is compiled in the period when surgery was almost not being done by ayurvedist thus the references of subject matter related to salyavijnana (surgery) are scanty; knowledge of sarira (anotomy) being more important to surgeons also finds itself concised in few verse only. It is probably single available book which describes in detail ?astavidha pariksa? i.e. examination of pulse, urine and stool.
