These circumstances alone have rocked his world, To a point where he believes that God has abandoned him. He learned six months ago that his best friend who is also his father, Greg, has a terminal illness and is not expected to live much longer. This just adds to his doubts and fears about the future and adds to his belief that God doesn't love him. As a last request, Greg Bagwell, his dying father, coordinates his own living memorial service to be held at one of his favorite places which ties in to his love of movies: a near-by, local movie theatre in the far western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The stories that unfold from family and friends who speak at the service begin to tug at Jared's heart-strings. Greg thought of every detail For The service, making sure that each presenter focused on God through presentations of oil paintings that he created specifically for those asked to speak, each having deep spiritual meaning to each presenter. The canvases provide telling memories that ensure each person stays focused on God's Word, Love, Redemption, Grace, Mercy and Hope. Although Jared is losing his sight, his eyes begin to open To The amazing love of God, breaking down walls that had built up over time. Usher Me Home is an inspirational story that unfolds with a number of family secrets, broken relationships, and devastating health concerns within the Bagwell family, combined with undeserved and unbelievable forgiveness and restoration. it is a story of a young man that re-discovers hope in the midst of circumstances that are by all the world's standards...virtually impossible to regain.

Unabridged (100% Original content) Font adjustments & biography included Illustrated About The Fall Of The House Of Usher: By Edgar Allan Poe The story begins with the unnamed narrator arriving at the house of his friend, Roderick Usher, having received a letter from him in a distant part of the country complaining of an illness and asking for his help. As he arrives, the narrator notes a thin crack extending from the roof, down the front of the building and into the lake. Although Poe wrote this short story before the invention of modern psychological science, Roderick's condition can be described according to its terminology. It includes a form of sensory overload known as hyperesthesia (hypersensitivity to textures, light, sounds, smells and tastes), hypochondria (an excessive preoccupation or worry about having a serious illness) and acute anxiety. It is revealed that Roderick's twin sister, Madeline, is also ill and falls into cataleptic, deathlike trances. The narrator is impressed with Roderick's paintings, and attempts to cheer him by reading with him and listening to his improvised musical compositions on the guitar. Roderick sings "The Haunted Palace", then tells the narrator that he believes the house he lives in to be alive, and that this sentience arises from the arrangement of the masonry and vegetation surrounding it.

Book excerpt: This is the first American publication of Brodber's eagerly awaited third novel. In Louisiana: A Novel she explores her continuing fascination with the power of the past to live in the present. Here, Ella Townsend, a young African American anthropologist whose roots are Caribbean, researches Louisiana folklife and discovers not only the world of voodoo and carnival but also the mystical connection of the living and the dead. With her tape recorder she explores the rich heritage of Creole Louisiana, but Mammy, Ella's primary informant, dies during the project. Then from beyond the grave she continues to transmit messages. Although the academically minded Ella is dubious about the authenticity of the medium, gradually, as she confronts her prejudices, the tapes convey enriching mysteries about the past lives of Mammy and her friend Lowly. From this supernatural experience, Ella learns much about herself and her background. Louisiana celebrates the magico-religious culture of hoodoo, conjure, obeah, and myal. Like Brodber's previous works, Myal: A Novel and Jane and Louisa Will Soon Come Home, Louisiana reveals the author's fascinating gift of myth-making. The Louisiana of her title represents two places sharing the same name—the American state and Brodber's native parish in Jamaica. Through this blending of localities, Brodber shows how elements from the African diaspora are kept alive in the Creole culture of the Americas.

The heir to the family fortune, he has just received the most unusual part of the Poe legacy-the casket. The three-foot-long wooden box contains the notes and personal papers of the Poe men dating back to the eerie and mysterious Edgar Allen. It is passed on to every male Poe on his thirtieth birthday. John Charles has sworn not to divulge its secrets, but a call from his oldest friend, Roderick Usher, on the verge of a breakdown, may justify a broken oath.

Book excerpt: “A gripping, well-told story of faith and truth.” —Khaled Hosseini, bestselling author of The Kite Runner “A disturbingly effective historical novel.” —Boston Globe “Beautifully written, nary a word out of place, and with a few moments that throw you beyond—the way good books do ... deeply satisfying.” —San Francisco Chronicle A San Francisco Chronicle Notable Book of 2007 In 1507, when a severe famine strikes a small town in Germany, a friar arrives from a large city, claiming that the town is under the spell of witches in league with the devil. He brings with him a book called the Malleus Maleficarum—“The Witch’s Hammer”—a guide to gaining confessions of witchcraft, and promises to identify the guilty woman who has brought God’s anger upon the town, burn her, and restore bounty. Güde Müller suffers stark and frightening visions—recently she has seen things that defy explanation. No one in the village know this, and Güde herself worries that perhaps her mind has begun to wander—certainly she has outlived all but one of her peers in Tierkinddorf. Yet of one thing she is absolutely certain: She has become an object of scorn and a burden to her son’s wife. In these desperate times her daughter-in-law would prefer one less hungry mouth at the family table. As the friar turns his eye on each member of the tiny community, Güde dreads what her daughter-in-law might say to win his favor. Then one terrible night Güde follows an unearthly voice and the scent of charred meat into the snow-filled woods. Come morning, she no longer knows if the horror she witnessed was real or imagined. She only knows that if the friar hears of it, she may be damned in this life as well as the next. The Witch’s Trinity beautifully illuminates a dark period of history; it is vividly imagined, elegantly written, haunting, and unforgettable.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a Louisiana sharecropper's daughter, Joyce Broyles grew up feeling loved and safe, free to roam the rice farm on her brother's horse, until middle school showed her the difference between poor country folk and well-off city people. With God's help through family and friends, she overcame low self-esteem and learned to trust Him for guidance and peace. Fifth of six siblings, Joyce enjoyed the outdoors and ballgames, but her mother insisted on teaching her to sew, cook, and keep a clean house. Because he had no education and knew the drawbacks from that, her dad insisted his children get a college education and contribute to their community. At a Christian college, Joyce met her husband, and together, they encountered many difficult circumstances during the years following as they moved from place to place. Reared under godly influence from family and friends, they were able to travel around the world and teach and encourage others to live under the wings of their Heavenly Father, trusting their lives to His care. In her memoirs, Joyce tells her story of how she and her husband and children followed God's directions, traveling and ministering, always under His caring wings. She is amazed at how God took her, with nothing but a desire to grow, and led her where He did, using others to keep her from being lost. After the death of her husband, Joyce tells how God helped her to cope and gave her a purpose to continue to serve Him.

Book excerpt: “Don’t Call Me Home is about madness and love. Alexandra tells the best stories about her extraordinary childhood as she travels the world with her mother Viva. Wit and wisdom wrapped and bound with love.” --Debbie Harry “Alexandra Auder’s Don’t Call Me Home is thrumming with life, in all its absurdity, vividness, and gunk. I literally laughed and cried, and cheered hard throughout for our intrepid narrator, who has gifted us an incomparable tale.”--Maggie Nelson author of The Argonauts and On Freedom A moving and wickedly funny memoir about one woman’s life as the daughter of a Warhol superstar and the intimate bonds of mother-daughter relationships Alexandra Auder’s life began at the Chelsea Hotel—New York City’s infamous bohemian hangout—when her mother, Viva, a longtime resident of the hotel and one of Andy Warhol’s superstars, went into labor in the lobby. These first moments of Alexandra’s life, documented by her filmmaker father, Michel Auder, portended the whirlwind childhood and teen years that she would go on to have. At the center of it all is Viva: a glamorous, larger-than-life woman with mercurial moods, who brings Alexandra with her on the road from gig to gig, splitting time between a home in Connecticut and Alexandra’s father’s loft in 1980s Tribeca, then moving back again to the Chelsea Hotel and spending summers with Viva’s upper-middle-class, conservative, hyperpatriarchal family of origin. In Don’t Call Me Home, Alexandra meditates on the seedy glory of being raised by two counterculture icons, from walking a pet goat around Chelsea and joining the Squat Theatre company to coparenting her younger sister, Gaby, with her mother and partying in East Village nightclubs. Flitting between this world and her present-day life as a yoga instructor, actress, mother, wife, and much-loved Instagram provocateur, Alexandra weaves a stunning, moving, and hilarious portrait of a family and what it means to move away from being your mother’s daughter into being a person of your own.
