Book Synopsis African American Officers in Liberia by : Brian Shellum
Download or read book African American Officers in Liberia written by Brian Shellum and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2018-08 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: African American Officers in Liberia tells the story of seventeen African American officers who trained, reorganized, and commanded the Liberian Frontier Force from 1910 to 1942. In this West African country founded by freed black American slaves, African American officers performed their duties as instruments of imperialism for a country that was, at best, ambivalent about having them serve under arms at home and abroad. The United States extended its newfound imperial reach and policy of "Dollar Diplomacy" to Liberia, a country it considered a U.S. protectorate. Brian G. Shellum explores U.S. foreign policy toward Liberia and the African American diaspora, while detailing the African American military experience in the first half of the twentieth century. Shellum brings to life the story of the African American officers who carried out a dangerous mission in Liberia for an American government that did not treat them as equal citizens in their homeland, and he provides recognition for their critical role in preserving the independence of Liberia.

Book Synopsis Inside the People’S Redemption Council Government of Liberia by : Sei Rubel Gehyeka BBA MSA
Download or read book Inside the People’S Redemption Council Government of Liberia written by Sei Rubel Gehyeka BBA MSA and published by LifeRich Publishing. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After 133 years (18471980) of relative peace and stability in Liberia, the unthinkable happened. A group of enlisted noncommissioned officers of the military seized control of the government. For five years, they monopolized power, and the key leadership was only removed by a civil war. I believe the war was caused by the birth and death of the Peoples Redemption Council government. I am therefore presenting what I think has been left out of many conversations about my motherland and may possibly be left out of its history.
Book Synopsis Missions for Science by : David McBride
Download or read book Missions for Science written by David McBride and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This historical analysis explores how disease control aid from the U.S., along with shifting environmental factors, affected the development of Atlantic regions with populations of predominantly African ancestry: the southern United States, the Panama Canal Zone, Haiti, and Liberia. McBride (African American history, Pennsylvania State U.) poses questions such as "what specific technologies and medical resources were transferred by U.S. institutions to black population centers, and why?" McBride also discusses how those regions, with historical ties to the U.S., independently envisioned and utilized technology and science in their formation. Download or read book The Armed Forces of Liberia written by Preston Varkpeh and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-06-27 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Armed Forces of Liberia: A Continuum to the Liberian Democracy examines the Liberian security framework and seeks to explore root causes that have shaped the security landscape in the West African nation. The book considers internal and external links in diplomacy, international relations, politics, economics, and public-policy decisions that have dovetailed into the negative employment of security forces. The Natives–settlers divide in Liberia, the early settlers’ government that excluded the Natives, the ushering in of a military regime that brought an end to Americo-Liberian rule, and the mismatches in doctrinal contexts due to failure of the Liberian government to plan for strategic sourcing of military requirements that meet the current and future needs of security in Liberia are major aspects of this research. Simply put, the research aims at creating a correlation between public-policy decisions (or indecision) and military outcomes as well as how these outcomes affect the animal spirit of investment in Liberia for sustained economic development.
