Chr.) und der Forschung nach deren Ursachen. Da sich die Geschichte des Islam zu Lebzeiten von Mohammed an seinen Offenbarungen und Handlungsweisen orientiert, könnte es im Titel auch heißen „Ursachen des Wandels der Beziehungen zwischen Mohammed und dem Christentum zu seinen Lebzeiten“. Trotzdem sich diese Arbeit chronologisch nach den Etappen in Mohammeds Leben ausrichtet und vor allem nach den Ursachen im Wandel seines Verhältnisses zum Christentum sucht, legt die Handlungsweise und Gesetzgebung des Propheten Mohammed den Grundstein für die christlich-islamischen Beziehungen allgemein. Dies sollte auch im Titel zum Ausdruck kommen. Mit Hilfe einer chronologischen Darstellung der Entwicklung der christlich-islamischen Kontakte in Etappen wird der Phasenverlauf von einem friedlich-toleranten Neben- und Miteinander beider Religionsgemeinschaften hin zu dem feindseligen Klima gezeigt, deren Ausläufer das Verhältnis auch heute noch prägen. Um die Ursachen des Wandels ergründen zu können, kommt man nicht umhin, den Wandel selbst zu beschreiben. Das zweite Kapitel beginnt daher in der vorislamischen Zeit und beschäftigt sich mit der Klärung der religiösen Umgebung in die Mohammed hinein geboren wurde und die ihn zweifellos in seinen späteren Überzeugungen beeinflusst hat. Es beschreibt die Voraussetzungen und Bedingungen unter denen sich die christlich-islamischen Beziehungen entwickelten. Mit der Entwicklung von Mohammeds Geburt bis zur hira und der Auswanderung der muslimischen Gemeinde aus Mekka nach Medina, beschreibt das dritte Kapitel den Höhepunkt der friedlich-wohlmeinenden Beziehungen zu Christen. Danach werden die beiden letzten Etappen der schlechter werdenden christlich-islamischen Beziehungen dargestellt (Kapitel 4). Erst ab diesem Zeitpunkt vollzog sich der Wandel dessen Ursachen diese Arbeit untersuchen möchte. Durch die Themenwahl der islamischen Frühgeschichte ergibt sich, was die wissenschaftliche Quellenlage betrifft, eine entscheidende Schwierigkeit. Die Überlieferung von Mohammeds Biografie (sira) und seines Umfeldes muss mangels materieller Zeugnisse und arabischer Inschriften trotz wissenschaftlicher Skrupel aus literarischen Quellen entnommen werden die Jahrzehnte und Jahrhunderte nach dem historischen Geschehen von gläubigen Muslimen in arabischer Sprache festgehalten oder überarbeitet worden sind.[...]
