This breadth of impact of mathematics implies the urgency of developing research in university mathematics education, and of sharing results of this research widely. This book provides a bespoke opportunity for an international audience of researchers in didactics of mathematics, mathematicians and any teacher or researcher with an interest in this area to be informed about state-of-the-art developments and to heed future research agendas. This book emerged from the activities of the research project INDRUM (acronym for International Network for Didactic Research in University Mathematics), which aims to contribute to the development of research in didactics of mathematics at all levels of tertiary education, with a particular concern for the development of early-career researchers in the field and for dialogue with university mathematicians. The aim of the book is to provide a deep synthesis of the research field as it appears through two INDRUM conferences organised in 2016 and 2018. L’exploitation minière en Afrique †“ Les communautés locales en tirent-elles parti ? examine comment l’exploitation aurifère à grande échelle dans trois pays †“ le Ghana, le Mali et la Tanzanie †“ affecte les moyens de subsistance et les communautés locales. L’analyse et les résultats des auteurs concluent qu’en moyenne, les communautés minières bénéficient d’avantages sociaux positifs bien que limités. L’étude définit trois grands canaux †“ marché, fiscal et environnemental †“ pouvant affecter les localités. Les auteurs appliquent ce cadre d’analyse à l’exploitation aurifère à grande échelle dans les trois pays de l’étude et ils utilisent des méthodes économétriques solides pour évaluer ces effets au niveau local. Si le défi de l’extraction des ressources naturelles est traité dans toutes ses dimensions, des pistes pour une prospérité partagée et une meilleure égalité peuvent être ouvertes, créant ainsi une vie meilleure pour les familles et améliorant les perspectives des pays dans lesquels elles vivent. Ce livre a pour objectif d’éclairer les politiques publiques et le comportement des entreprises concernant le bien-être des communautés situées à proximité des sites d’extraction et les opportunités que l’activité minière peut leur offrir.

Et trop souvent, ces lacunes sont cachees - par consequent, pour faire face a la crise de l'apprentissage, il est crucial de commencer par la mettre en lumiere en ameliorant l'evaluation des acquis des eleves.Comment mettre l'ecole au service de l'ensemble des apprenants ? Les travaux de recherche sur le cerveau, l'innovation pedagogique et la gestion des etablissements scolaires, entre autres, ont identifie des interventions qui favorisent l'apprentissage en faisant en sorte que les apprenants soient mieux prepares, que les enseignants soient a la fois competents et motives, et que d'autres moyens soient mis en oeuvre pour soutenir larelation entre l'enseignant et l'apprenant.Comment faire en sorte que le systeme favorise l'apprentissage ? Pour realiser les objectifs d'apprentissage a travers le systeme educatif dans son ensemble, il ne suffit pas de transposer a plus grande echelle les interventions efficaces. Les pays doivent aussi surmonter des obstacles techniques et politiques en ayant recours a des outils de mesure et indicateurs suffisamment parlants pour mobiliser les acteurs concernes etsuivre les progres, en formant des coalitions au service de l'apprentissage et en adoptant une approche de reforme evolutive.

A new generation of scholars has come to reject what was once regarded as accepted wisdom, and increasingly regard development and globalization as part of a continuum with colonialism, premised on the same reductionist assumption that progress and growth are objective facts that can be fostered, measured, assessed and controlled. Drawing on a variety of theoretical perspectives and approaches, this book explores the ways in which social movements in the Global South are rejecting Western-centric notions of development and modernization, as well as creating their own alternatives. By assessing development theories from the perspective of subaltern groups and movements, the contributors posit a new notion of development ‘from below’, one in which these movements provide new ways of imagining social transformation, and a way out of the ‘developmental dead end’ that has so far characterized post-development approaches. Beyond Colonialism, Development and Globalization therefore represents a radical break with the prevailing narrative of modernization, and points to a bold new direction for development studies.
