As part of the prestigious Wiley Series in Probabilityand Statistics, this book provides a lucid introduction to thefield and, in this new Second Edition, covers the importantadvances of recent years, including nonstationary models, nonlinearestimation, multivariate models, state space representations, andempirical model identification. New sections have also been addedon the Wold decomposition, partial autocorrelation, long memoryprocesses, and the Kalman filter. Major topics include: * Moving average and autoregressive processes * Introduction to Fourier analysis * Spectral theory and filtering * Large sample theory * Estimation of the mean and autocorrelations * Estimation of the spectrum * Parameter estimation * Regression, trend, and seasonality * Unit root and explosive time series To accommodate a wide variety of readers, review material, especially on elementary results in Fourier analysis, large samplestatistics, and difference equations, has been included.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author rejects the theorem-proof approach as much as possible, and emphasize the practical application of econometrics. They show with examples how to calculate and interpret the numerical results. This book begins with students estimating simple univariate models, in a step by step fashion, using the popular Stata software system. Students then test for stationarity, while replicating the actual results from hugely influential papers such as those by Granger and Newbold, and Nelson and Plosser. Readers will learn about structural breaks by replicating papers by Perron, and Zivot and Andrews. They then turn to models of conditional volatility, replicating papers by Bollerslev. Finally, students estimate multi-equation models such as vector autoregressions and vector error-correction mechanisms, replicating the results in influential papers by Sims and Granger. The book contains many worked-out examples, and many data-driven exercises. While intended primarily for graduate students and advanced undergraduates, practitioners will also find the book useful.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing appropriate forecasts of time series data into the future depends crucially on whether the time series under consideration is non-stationary (i.e. has a unit root) or stationary. In the context of a Stochastic Volatility Model (SVM), the presence of a unit root in financial data has important implications for the pricing of various financial instruments. We propose a unit root test for the volatility process based on the Simulation-Extrapolation (SIMEX) approach. We express the SVM as a measurement error model and propose a Simulation-Extrapolation (SIMEX)-based approach to test for the unit root hypothesis. The asymptotic theory of the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and Weighted Symmetric (WS) estimators are exploited to obtain SIMEX-based tests and simulation studies are provided to demonstrate that the SIMEX-based test compares favorably with some of the well known unit root tests already available in the literature. We also propose a unit root test based on the maximum order statistic in a simple autoregressive (AR) model of order 1. The asymptotic distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is derived and the approximate percentiles are also provided. Through simulation studies, the proposed test is compared with the Dickey-Fuller (DF) test under various specifications for the error distributions. In the final chapter of this dissertation, we propose a procedure to test the null hypothesis of stationarity in AR (1) models. The procedure is based on the Intersection-Union tests used in Bio-Equivalence studies. The performance of the test based on finite sample percentiles as well as asymptotic percentiles is assessed using simulation studies.

Book excerpt: `This most commendable volume brings together a set of papers which permits ready access to the means of estimating quantitative relationships using cointegration and error correction procedures. Providing the data to show fully the basis for calculation, this approach is an excellent perception of the needs of senior undergraduates and graduate students.' - Professor W.P. Hogan, The University of Sydney Applied economists, with modest econometric background, are now desperately looking for expository literature on the unit roots and cointegration techniques. This volume of expository essays is written for them. It explains in a simple style various tests for the existence of unit roots and how to estimate cointegration relationships. Original data are given to enable easy replications. Limitations of some existing unit root tests are also discussed.

The authors are leading scholars in the fields and introduce the latest models for analysing marketing data. The papers are representative of the types of problems and methods that are used within the field of marketing. Marketing focuses on the interaction between the firm and the consumer. Economics encompasses this interaction as well as many others. Economics, along with psychology and sociology, provides a theoretical foundation for marketing.
