Book Synopsis Local Approximation Techniques in Signal and Image Processing by : Vladimir I︠A︡kovlevich Katkovnik
Download or read book Local Approximation Techniques in Signal and Image Processing written by Vladimir I︠A︡kovlevich Katkovnik and published by SPIE-International Society for Optical Engineering. This book was released on 2006 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with a wide class of novel and efficient adaptive signal processing techniques developed to restore signals from noisy and degraded observations. These signals include those acquired from still or video cameras, electron microscopes, radar, X-rays, or ultrasound devices, and are used for various purposes, including entertainment, medical, business, industrial, military, civil, security, and scientific. In many cases useful information and high quality must be extracted from the imaging. However, often raw signals are not directly suitable for this purpose and must be processed in some way. Such processing is called signal reconstruction. This book is devoted to a recent and original approach to signal reconstruction based on combining two independent ideas: local polynomial approximation and the intersection of confidence interval rule.

Book Synopsis Multidisciplinary Computational Anatomy by : Makoto Hashizume
Download or read book Multidisciplinary Computational Anatomy written by Makoto Hashizume and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume thoroughly describes the fundamentals of a new multidisciplinary field of study that aims to deepen our understanding of the human body by combining medical image processing, mathematical analysis, and artificial intelligence. Multidisciplinary Computational Anatomy (MCA) offers an advanced diagnosis and therapeutic navigation system to help detect or predict human health problems from the micro-level to macro-level using a four-dimensional, dynamic approach to human anatomy: space, time, function, and pathology. Applying this dynamic and “living” approach in the clinical setting will promote better planning for – and more accurate, effective, and safe implementation of – medical management. Multidisciplinary Computational Anatomy will appeal not only to clinicians but also to a wide readership in various scientific fields such as basic science, engineering, image processing, and biomedical engineering. All chapters were written by respected specialists and feature abundant color illustrations. Moreover, the findings presented here share new insights into unresolved issues in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, and into the healthy human body.

Book Synopsis Quantitative Analysis of Metastability in Reversible Diffusion Processes Via a Witten Complex Approach by : Bernard Helffer
Download or read book Quantitative Analysis of Metastability in Reversible Diffusion Processes Via a Witten Complex Approach written by Bernard Helffer and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This article is a continuation of previous works by Bovier-Eckhoff-Gayrard-Klein, Bovier-Gayrard-Klein and Helffer-Klein-Nier. The main object is the analysis of the small eigenvalues (as $h \mapsto 0$) of the Laplacian attached to the quadratic form $C_0^\infty (\Omega )\ni v \mapsto h^2 \int _{\Omega}\left \nabla v (x)\right ^2 e^{-2f(x)/h} dx$, where $\Omega $ is a bounded connected open set with $C^\infty $-boundary and $f$ is a Morse function on $M=\overline {\Omega }$. The previous works were devoted to the case of a manifold $M$ which is compact but without boundary or $\mathbb{R}^n$. The authors' aim here is to analyze the case with boundary. After the introduction of a Witten cohomology complex adapted to the case with boundary, they give a very accurate asymptotics for the exponentially small eigenvalues. In particular, they analyze the effect of the boundary in the asymptotics.

Book Synopsis Sampling in Combinatorial and Geometric Set Systems by : Nabil H. Mustafa
Download or read book Sampling in Combinatorial and Geometric Set Systems written by Nabil H. Mustafa and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-01-14 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the behavior of basic sampling techniques and intrinsic geometric attributes of data is an invaluable skill that is in high demand for both graduate students and researchers in mathematics, machine learning, and theoretical computer science. The last ten years have seen significant progress in this area, with many open problems having been resolved during this time. These include optimal lower bounds for epsilon-nets for many geometric set systems, the use of shallow-cell complexity to unify proofs, simpler and more efficient algorithms, and the use of epsilon-approximations for construction of coresets, to name a few. This book presents a thorough treatment of these probabilistic, combinatorial, and geometric methods, as well as their combinatorial and algorithmic applications. It also revisits classical results, but with new and more elegant proofs. While mathematical maturity will certainly help in appreciating the ideas presented here, only a basic familiarity with discrete mathematics, probability, and combinatorics is required to understand the material.

Book Synopsis Inverse Problems in Vision and 3D Tomography by : Ali Mohamad-Djafari
Download or read book Inverse Problems in Vision and 3D Tomography written by Ali Mohamad-Djafari and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-01-29 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of an inverse problem is a familiar one to most scientists and engineers, particularly in the field of signal and image processing, imaging systems (medical, geophysical, industrial non-destructive testing, etc.), and computer vision. In imaging systems, the aim is not just to estimate unobserved images but also their geometric characteristics from observed quantities that are linked to these unobserved quantities by a known physical or mathematical relationship. In this manner techniques such as image enhancement or addition of hidden detail can be delivered. This book focuses on imaging and vision problems that can be clearly described in terms of an inverse problem where an estimate for the image and its geometrical attributes (contours and regions) is sought. The book uses a consistent methodology to examine inverse problems such as: noise removal; restoration by deconvolution; 2D or 3D reconstruction in X-ray, tomography or microwave imaging; reconstruction of the surface of a 3D object using X-ray tomography or making use of its shading; reconstruction of the surface of a 3D landscape based on several satellite photos; super-resolution; motion estimation in a sequence of images; separation of several images mixed using instruments with different sensitivities or transfer functions; and much more.

Book excerpt: This book presents refereed and revised papers presented at GREC 2001, the 4th IAPR International Workshop on Graphics Recognition, which took place in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in September 2001. Graphics recognition is a branch of document image analysis that focuses on the recognition of two-dimensional notations such as engineering drawings, maps, mathematical notation, music notation, tables, and chemical structure diagrams. Due to the growing demand for both o?-line and on-line document recognition systems, the ?eld of graphics recognition has an excitingand promisingfuture. The GREC workshops provide an opportunity for researchers at all levels of experience to share insights into graphics recognition methods. The workshops enjoy strongparticipation from researchers in both industry and academia. They are sponsored by IAPR TC-10, the Technical Committee on Graphics Recog- tion within the International Association for Pattern Recognition. Edited v- umes from the previous three workshops in this series are available as Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Vols. 1072, 1389, and 1941. After the GREC 2001 workshop, authors were invited to submit enhanced versions of their papers for review. Every paper was evaluated by three reviewers. We are grateful to both authors and reviewers for their careful work during this review process. Many of the papers that appear in this volume were thoroughly revised and improved, in response to reviewers’ suggestions.
