Download or read book Foreign Aid in China written by Hong Zhou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreign aid has connected China and the international community through many channels, and created new types of strong partnerships throughout the world. As a recipient country, China and donors have engaged in an unprecedentedly deep level of cooperation on development-related issues. China’s development experience has resulted in key changes to the relationships and partnerships between China and donors, from receiving foreign aid to entering into development cooperation. China has provided valuable experiences for other developing countries, experiences that are all the more relevant because they have revealed key factors at work in developing recipient countries. This has also led China to form closer cooperative relationships with other developing countries with regard to development issues. In short, foreign aid has changed China.

Book Synopsis Government and NGOs in South Asia by : Mohammad Jahangir Hossain Mojumder
Download or read book Government and NGOs in South Asia written by Mohammad Jahangir Hossain Mojumder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-25 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses efforts of Bangladeshi government and NGOs to strengthen local governance, and identifies the challenges posed by collaboration with NGOs. Presenting a dominantly qualitative study, the analysis explores whether engagement between the Sharique project to strengthen local governance and the Union Parishads has translated into success. In doing so, it argues that evidence points to a positive impact on institutionalising good governance and fiscal autonomy through widening participation in planning and decision-making, reinforcing accountability of functionaries and enhancing tax collection. Furthermore, this book demonstrates that the collaboration has aided the process of development of social capital between officials of councils and NGOs, as well as amongst the community members, encouraging future partnership governance. However, with the phasing out of the project as a propelling force, it also shows that the results fall short of being sustainable and, as such, that statuary support, unequivocal political commitment, and incentivising engagements are required to stabilise outcomes. Bridging a gap in the Development Studies literature, this book presents new findings on the collaboration of NGOs at the local level. It will be of interest to academics working in the field of South Asian Studies, Development Studies, and Asian Politics.
Book Synopsis The Shape of the East Asian Economy to Come by : Benny Teh Cheng Guan
Download or read book The Shape of the East Asian Economy to Come written by Benny Teh Cheng Guan and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12-14 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes we hope to see a "Savior" of the secular world coming from an unknown alien realm. Such imaginings can encourage us to create both new concerns and goals toward which we scramble. We are always looking for the birth of a Venus. Since the "Miracle of East Asia" was pronounced by the World Bank, Asian economic development has been set against a specific background. Tigers have been sought in the jungles of Asia in place of the tragedies found in Africa or South America. However the Asian economic crisis exposed the misconduct of policy advocated by the then dominant worldly consensus. East Asian developments once again gave an urgent impetus to reexamining conventional wisdom. More recently, the coalescence of an "East Asian economic community" forms a backdrop for discussions on the future shape of the global system. Through this new paradigm will it be possible to further cultivate the fruits of Asian economic experiences? Or, by this rhetoric, will we merely be attempting a lonely effort to seek deliverance from the current realities of the savage world of the free market economy? This volume sheds light on various aspects of and phases in the most recent arguments, bringing together the work of European and East Asian scholars. Part One is devoted to the political and economic dynamics contributing to the emergence of an integrating East Asian entity. Part Two illustrates the challenges and problems faced by selected individual countries that would need to be overcome in creating an East Asian economy.
