Book excerpt: Depuis les années 1960 et la Révolution tranquille, jamais la profession enseignante au Québec n'a connu une situation de transformation aussi importante que celle qu'elle vit présentement. Depuis le début des années 1990, les changements se succèdent à un rythme accéléré et parfois essoufflant : nouveaux programmes universitaires de formation des maîtres, allongement considérable de la formation pratique à l'enseignement, tenue des Etats généraux sur l'éducation conduisant à la révision de toutes les parties du système éducatif, nouveaux programmes scolaires qui seront implantés prochainement, création des réseaux des écoles associées (pour la formation des futurs maîtres) dans toute la province de Québec, recrutement de nouveaux enseignants, car les anciens prennent et prendront de plus en plus rapidement leur retraite, etc. Or, au coeur même de ces changements, il importe de considérer le rôle fondamental joué par la formation des maîtres, car c'est à partir d'elle que se définit présentement le profil de la prochaine génération d'enseignantes et d'enseignants. Cet ouvrage veut prendre acte de tous ces bouleversements. Il veut aussi permettre d'envisager les répercussions de ces bouleversements sur les différents acteurs et organisations en présence, et ce, dans une perspective alimentée et soutenue par l'éclairage que la recherche peut apporter sur ces questions. Si récente qu'elle soit, la formation universitaire des maîtres est porteuse d'un héritage que la réforme actuelle nous force déjà à examiner avec soin ; les changements qui résultent inévitablement de cette réforme provoquent nécessairement des ruptures et posent la question d'une continuité à préserver.
