A obra geral de Rawls apresenta-se como último estágio na evolução do pensamento liberal, enfatizando a importância das instituições legais e políticas no contexto de sociedades caracterizadas pela pluralidade de doutrinas abrangentes. Neste trabalho, propõe-se uma reflexão geral da obra do autor, centrando a análise em um ponto crítico da obra do autor: as questões relativas à aplicação do direito (seja no âmbito interno ou externo) e ao papel do Estado na implementação prática dos princípios. Assim, pretende-se confirmar que, mesmo com a virada política proposta pelo autor, a ideia de garantir um mundo propício ao bem humano, orientada pelos princípios de justiça e pelo efeito positivo sobre a formação moral de seus cidadãos, permanece sendo a grande herança teórica do autor.

A desobediência civil é a via especial para convencer esse tribunal.
