Book Synopsis Springer Handbook of Microscopy by : Peter W. Hawkes
Download or read book Springer Handbook of Microscopy written by Peter W. Hawkes and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-02 with total page 1561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features reviews by leading experts on the methods and applications of modern forms of microscopy. The recent awards of Nobel Prizes awarded for super-resolution optical microscopy and cryo-electron microscopy have demonstrated the rich scientific opportunities for research in novel microscopies. Earlier Nobel Prizes for electron microscopy (the instrument itself and applications to biology), scanning probe microscopy and holography are a reminder of the central role of microscopy in modern science, from the study of nanostructures in materials science, physics and chemistry to structural biology. Separate chapters are devoted to confocal, fluorescent and related novel optical microscopies, coherent diffractive imaging, scanning probe microscopy, transmission electron microscopy in all its modes from aberration corrected and analytical to in-situ and time-resolved, low energy electron microscopy, photoelectron microscopy, cryo-electron microscopy in biology, and also ion microscopy. In addition to serving as an essential reference for researchers and teachers in the fields such as materials science, condensed matter physics, solid-state chemistry, structural biology and the molecular sciences generally, the Springer Handbook of Microscopy is a unified, coherent and pedagogically attractive text for advanced students who need an authoritative yet accessible guide to the science and practice of microscopy.
Book Synopsis Scanning Tunneling Microscopy by : Joseph A. Stroscio
Download or read book Scanning Tunneling Microscopy written by Joseph A. Stroscio and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and its extensions have become revolutionary tools in the fields of physics, materials science, chemistry, and biology. These new microscopies have evolved from their beginnings asresearch aids to their current use as commercial tools in the laboratory and on the factory floor. New wonders continue to unfold as STM delivers atomic scale imaging and electrical characterization of the newly emerging nanometer world. This volume in the METHODS OF EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS Series describes the basics of scanning tunneling microscopy, provides a fundamental theoretical understanding of the technique and a thorough description of the instrumentation, and examines numerous examples and applications. Written by the pioneers of the field, this volume is an essential handbook for researchers and users of STM, as well as a valuable resource for libraries.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Microscopy, Methods I by : S. Amelinckx
Download or read book Handbook of Microscopy, Methods I written by S. Amelinckx and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1997 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive in coverage, written and edited by leading experts in the field, this Handbook is a definitive, up-to-date reference work. The Volumes Methods I and Methods II detail the physico-chemical basis and capabilities of the various microscopy techniques used in materials science. The Volume Applications illustrates the results obtained by all available methods for the main classes of materials, showing which technique can be successfully applied to a given material in order to obtain the desired information. With the Handbook of Microscopy, scientists and engineers involved in materials characterization will be in a position to answer two key questions: "How does a given technique work?", and "Which techique is suitable for characterizing a given material?"

Book Synopsis Spontaneous Ordering in Semiconductor Alloys by : Angelo Mascarenhas
Download or read book Spontaneous Ordering in Semiconductor Alloys written by Angelo Mascarenhas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive account of the phenomenon of spontaneous ordering. The phenomenon, which can be categorized as a self-organized process, is observed to occur spontaneously during epitaxial growth of certain ternary alloy semiconductors and results in a modification of their structural, electronic, and optical properties. There has been a great deal of interest in learning how to control this phenomenon so that it may be used for tailoring desirable electronic and optical properties. There has been even greater interest in exploiting the phenomenon for its unique ability to provide an experimental environment of controlled alloy statistical fluctuations. As such, it impacts areas of semiconductor science and technology related to the materials science of epitaxial growth, statistical mechanics, and electronic structure of alloys and electronic and photonic devices. During the past two decades, significant progress has been made toward understanding the mechanisms that drive this phenomenon and the changes in physical properties that result from it. A variety of experimental techniques have been used to probe the phenomenon and several attempts made at providing theoretical models, both for the ordering mechanisms as well as electronic structure changes. The various chapters of this book provide a detailed account of these efforts during the past decade.
