Book excerpt: Ull Rigel is a fit and worthy Tornian warrior, the first male of a powerful and respected Lord. Because of this, he'd always believed he'd be able to attract a female, securing his bloodline. But he hadn't. He hadn't even been able to attract one of the Earth females they'd discovered. But his younger brother, a third male, did. Now, the Emperor was sending Ull to Earth to protect it from the Ganglians who were abducting the females his brother warriors so need. Trisha Burke had plans for her life. Career. Family. Friends. But one moment changed all that. Her friend Lisa and Lisa's two children suddenly disappeared without any explanation. When local law enforcement couldn't find them, she reached out to the most powerful person she knew. The President of the United States, her Uncle. Two people who have had their lives turned upside down are on a collision course. How these two handled the impact and deal with the aftermath will affect not just them but all the Known Universes.

Book excerpt: After his studies at the arts academies in Berlin and Düsseldorf, Ull Hohn (1960-1995) moved to New York to attend the Whitney Independent Study Program in 1987. Engaging with current theoretical debates and cultural issues, his work from the late 1980s and early 1990s frequently invokes questions of gender and homosexuality, as well as their representation. It interrogates the history of painting, traditional notions of virtuosity, the conventions of value and taste inherent to education, and the distinction between high and popular culture. Ull Hohn: Foregrounds, Distances aims not only to offer the first comprehensive overview of his work, but also to contribute to a history of painting-based practices, which occupy a marginal place in the established narratives of the art of the 1980s and 1990s. Published in collaboration with Galerie Neu and the Estate of Ull Hohn Contributors Tom Burr, Thomas Eggerer, Manfred Hermes, Hannes Loichinger, Fionn Meade, Magnus Schaefer, Megan Francis Sullivan, Lanka Tattersall, Alexis Vaillant

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the link between the Food-Water-Energy nexus and sustainability, and the extraordinary value that small tweaks to this nexus can achieve for more resilient cities and communities. Using data from Urban Living Labs in six participating cities (Eindhoven, Gdańsk, Miami, Southend-on-Sea, Taipei, and Uppsala) to co-define context-specific challenges, the results from each city are collated into an Integrated Decision Support System to guide and improve robust decision-making on future urban development. The book presents contributions from CRUNCH, a transdisciplinary team of scholars and practitioners whose expertise spans urban climate modelling; food, water, and energy management; the design of resilient public space; collecting better urban data; and the development of smart city technology. Whilst previous works on the Food-Water-Energy nexus have focused on large, transnational cases, this book explores local ways to use the Food-Water-Energy nexus to improve urban resilience. It suggests tangible ways in which the cities and communities around us can become both more efficient and more climate resilient through small changes to their existing infrastructure. Over half of the world’s population lives in urban areas, and this is expected to increase to 68% by 2050. We urgently need to make our cities more resilient. This book provides a planning tool for decision-making and concludes with policy recommendations, making it relevant to a range of audiences including urbanists, environmentalists, architects, urban designers, and city planners, as well as students and scholars interested in alternative approaches to sustainability and resilience. Book excerpt: **The internationally bestselling series!** Kristia Tostenson prefers Earl Grey to Grey Goose and book clubs to nightclubs. But when she transfers from her one-stoplight Oregon town to Cardiff University in Wales, she falls in love with Ull Myhr. Her new boyfriend isn’t exactly what she was expecting. Ull is an honest-to-goodness Norse god — an immortal assassin fated to die at Ragnarok, the battle destined to destroy Asgard and Earth. When someone starts asking the wrong questions, Kristia realizes the crazy visions she's had all her life might be the key to saving their realms... even if they end up costing her her life. Her orderly world just got very messy. (Elsker: The Elsker Saga, Book One)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In new forms of writing this is one of three books which represent stages of a serious artistic search for a modern dialectic of mark, word and image spanning twenty years. With an aesthetic that dissolves conventional boundaries of visual Art and Literature, the abstract alphabetical poem, my it to you and the narrative proem, In the Way of It are both written solely in monosyllables. The selection of spaced prints of alphabetical poems (such as Rubicon) in The Poetry of It was inspired initially by a surrealist experiment in automatic writing in 1988 which triggered an extensive period in which dreams errupted onto the page in the written form of fragmented words. Written in the form of double columns, ‘Mac’s Story’, In The Way of It, gives an account of how these works came to be made along with The Book of It, his humorous satire on contemporary capitalism published in 2010.All three new works celebrate the Centenary of the revolution in visual language made by the avant-gardes in what Marjorie Perloff calls ‘The Futurist Moment’ in Modernist Art.
