Einen Großteil des Tages verbringen die Kinder in der Schule, daher stellen sich an die Bildungseinrichtungen besondere Aufgaben. Schulen haben deshalb die Aufgabe, besonders auf die Gestaltung des Schulalltags und den Lebensraum Schule zu achten. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der „Übergewichtsprävention unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Aufgabe der Schule“ und versucht, Handlungsmöglichkeiten im Setting Schule zu präsentieren. Zu Beginn der Arbeit wird zunächst das Hauptthemengebiet theoretisch erklärt. Dazu zählen neben der Definition und Verbreitung auch die Ursachen und Folgen von Übergewicht, welche sehr vielschichtig sind. Im Anschluss an die theoretischen Erläuterungen werden Präventionsmöglichkeiten in der Schule in den Bereichen der Ernährung und der Bewegung vorgestellt. Ob es in den Schulen bereits eine umfassende Präventionsarbeit gibt und wie diese aussieht, wird in den abschließenden Interviews mit Lehrern verschiedener Schulformen ausgewertet. Dabei werden auch der Bildungsstand der Lehrer und mögliche Unterstützungen für die Schulen näher betrachtet. Eine Zusammenfassung und ein Ausblick schließen die Arbeit ab.

In meinem späteren Beruf als Lehrerin werde ich wahrscheinlich des Öfteren mit diesem Thema konfrontiert werden. Zu Beginn meiner Hausarbeit gebe ich grundlegende Informationen über die Adipositas, wie die Definition, die Häufigkeit und Ursachen der Adipositas, die psychosozialen Folgen und psychologischen Aspekte, sowie Behandlungsstrategien und Therapiemöglichkeiten. Im weiteren Schritt gehe ich auf Handlungsmöglichkeiten ein. Diese beinhalten unter anderem eine Schulung zum Thema gesunde Ernährung und Anleitung zur Änderung der Ernährungsgewohnheiten, Sport und körperliche Aktivität, Projekte und Programme, die für die Schule interessant sein können.

Die oben beschriebenen Folgen von Übergewicht betreffen auch schon die Kinder und Jugendlichen in Österreich, und das in zunehmendem Maße. Kaum zu glauben, dass in der heutigen Zeit, in der vor allem junge Menschen einem schlanken, jungen und sportlichen Schönheitsideal gerecht werden wollen, die Anzahl der Dicken, Übergewichtigen zunimmt – und dies betrifft eben leider auch immer mehr Kinder und Jugendliche. Studien haben ergeben, dass jedes vierte Kind im deutschsprachigen Raum zu dick ist. Diese erschreckenden Zahlen werden sich voraussichtlich in den nächsten Jahren verdoppeln. Nicht zuletzt deshalb, weil immer mehr Kinder krankhaft dick - also adipös - sind. Diese Fakten sind eigentlich kaum vorstellbar, wenn man bedenkt, dass es weltweit 800 Millionen hungerleidende Menschen gibt. Paradoxerweise haben die westlichen Länder hingegen mittlerweile mit den Problemen von über einer Milliarde Übergewichtigen zu kämpfen. Da ist es kein Wunder, dass Übergewicht zur Volkskrankheit Nr. 1 erklärt wird und die Weltgesundheitsorganisation bereits von einer Epidemie des 3. Jahrtausends spricht, die gesellschaftliche und soziale Auswirkung hat. Das Gesundheitssystem rechnet jährlich mit mehreren Milliarden Euro, die durch die Folgerkrankungen von massivem Übergewicht entstehen. Die Kosten dafür übernehmen die Krankenkassen und der Staat, die für die Pflege- und Therapiekosten aufkommen. Übergewicht bedeutet für die Betroffenen nicht nur das Leiden unter der eigenen körperlichen Konstitution, sondern es kann auch viele gefährliche und gesundheitliche Schäden mit sich bringen. Diabetes, Herz-Kreislauf-Beschwerden und Bluthochdruck sind nur einige der nennenswerten Erkrankungen, die mit Übergewicht korrelieren. Kaum vorstellbar, aber in Amerika sind die Folgerkrankungen von Übergewicht zum ersten Mal die häufigste Todesursache.

The public health importance of understanding these relationships, based upon the best available evidence and establishing recommendations to support the development of population clinical practice guidelines and medical care of patients is clear. This report reviews evidence on the relationship between sodium and potassium intakes and indicators of adequacy, toxicity, and chronic disease. It updates the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) using an expanded DRI model that includes consideration of chronic disease endpoints, and outlines research gaps to address the uncertainties identified in the process of deriving the reference values and evaluating public health implications.

Book excerpt: Video study is a complex methodological approach, which enables the employing of various strategies, methods or techniques for generating, collecting and analysing video data, i.e. audiovisual data grounded in rich situational contexts. Section I focuses on the power of video to describe the dynamics of teaching and learning in the classroom. It presents various video studies conducted in the past fifteen years that aimed to describe the practices of teaching. Section II focuses on the use of video in investigating the effects of teaching on student learning. The chapters present approaches that build on video studies in order to link data about classroom processes with data about learning outcomes. The chapters in section III discuss possibilities offered by the use of video in professional development of teachers.
