This book was released on 2020-03-06 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gathering 4 Gardner is a biannual conference founded—and for many years organized—by Tom Rodgers to celebrate the spirit of Martin Gardner. While primarily concerned with recreational mathematics, most of Gardner's intellectual interests are featured, including magic, literature, philosophy, puzzles, art, and rationality. Gardner's writing inspired several generations of mathematicians by introducing us to the joy of discovery and exploration, and the Gathering's aim is to continue that tradition of inspiration. This volume, a tribute to Rodgers and Gardner, consists of papers originally presented at the Gathering 4 Gardner meetings. Recreational mathematics is strongly prominent with contributions from Neil Sloane, Richard Guy, Solomon Golomb, Barry Cipra, Erik Demaine, and many others. There are games and puzzles, including new Nim-like games, chess puzzles, coin weighings, coin flippings, and contributions that combine art and puzzles or magic and puzzles. Two historical articles present the stories of combinatorial game theory and the search for God's number for Rubik's Cube. Anyone who finds pleasure in clever and intriguing intellectual puzzles will find much to enjoy in Barrycades and Septoku.

Book Synopsis Fuzzy Discrete Structures by : Davender S. Malik
Download or read book Fuzzy Discrete Structures written by Davender S. Malik and published by Physica. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious exposition by Malik and Mordeson on the fuzzification of discrete structures not only supplies a solid basic text on this key topic, but also serves as a viable tool for learning basic fuzzy set concepts "from the ground up" due to its unusual lucidity of exposition. While the entire presentation of this book is in a completely traditional setting, with all propositions and theorems provided totally rigorous proofs, the readability of the presentation is not compromised in any way; in fact, the many ex cellently chosen examples illustrate the often tricky concepts the authors address. The book's specific topics - including fuzzy versions of decision trees, networks, graphs, automata, etc. - are so well presented, that it is clear that even those researchers not primarily interested in these topics will, after a cursory reading, choose to return to a more in-depth viewing of its pages. Naturally, when I come across such a well-written book, I not only think of how much better I could have written my co-authored monographs, but naturally, how this work, as distant as it seems to be from my own area of interest, could nevertheless connect with such. Before presenting the briefest of some ideas in this direction, let me state that my interest in fuzzy set theory (FST) has been, since about 1975, in connecting aspects of FST directly with corresponding probability concepts. One chief vehicle in carrying this out involves the concept of random sets.

Book Synopsis Introductory Statistics by : M.H. Quenouille
Download or read book Introductory Statistics written by M.H. Quenouille and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-17 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory Statistics is an elementary non-mathematical manual on statistics and provides a connected account of the more common statistical tests. It is divided into two parts: the first part introduces the reader to elementary applications of statistical methods and the line of reasoning involved in their use, and the second part covers elementary parts of statistical theory and more advanced applications. This book consists of nine chapters and opens with a discussion on the presentation of sets of measurements, touching on topics such as sampling, grouping, measures of spread, and standard deviation. The following chapters deal with normal distribution and its applications; comparison of two or several sets of measurements; attributes and comparison of proportions; and interrelations of sets of measurements. Concomitant observations are also considered, along with transformations and non-normal distributions. The final chapter is devoted to sampling methods, including the ratio method and the regression method. This monograph is written primarily for students of statistics and aims to help research workers gain a fuller understanding of the methods used in the analysis of their results.
