Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Giacomo Leopardi’s Search For A Common Life Through Poetry by : Frank Rosengarten
Download or read book Giacomo Leopardi’s Search For A Common Life Through Poetry written by Frank Rosengarten and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012-02-16 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book traces the life of Giacomo Leopardi by examining four different yet interrelated aspects: his social origins and class in relation to his evolving conception of nobility; the mixture of idealism and misogynism in his attitude toward women and in his conception of love; his poems and prose on the theme of Italian independence; and his philosophical materialism as expressed in his poetry, intellectual diary, and essays. Frank Rosengarten pays particular attention to the ways in which the thought of Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche illuminates Leopardi’s world view. He also devotes a section of the book to the different personal, moral, and philological components of Leopardi’s humanism. Throughout, he maintains a sharp focus on the connections between Leopardi’s life and the historical period in which he lived. The major themes and human concerns expressed in Leopardi’s writings relate to his life experiences and to the historical period in which he lived. Of central interest are nobility and love, since Leopardi’s perception of these two themes evolved and changed as he acquired a more general and universal conception of life. This fascinating combination of classical and modern perspectives on life and literature is highlighted throughout the book.

Book excerpt: Nisbet (modern languages, Emory U.) critically analyzes similarities between Hein's Ludwig Borne. Eine Denkschrift and Leopardi's Il Cantico del Gallo Silvestre from Operette Morali and the midrashic process. She shows how they both interweave biblical reference, historical events, and personal encounters with their narrative and juxtapose them to a contemporary situation. She concludes that the narratives are midrashic in inviting multiple interpretations of equal validity. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
Book Synopsis Leopardi and the Theory of Poetry by : G. Singh
Download or read book Leopardi and the Theory of Poetry written by G. Singh and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this first detailed and comprehensive account of Leopardi's theory of poetry, G. Singh assesses both the literary and critical attainments of a poet whose eminence ranks him with Dante and Petrarch. Singh's analysis, which employs extensive reference to Leopardi's work in order to illustrate the author's own comments, sets forth Leopardi's views on the larger questions of tradition, inspiration, and the imagination in poetry. Later chapters are concerned with the more specific matters of the poetic image, style, and language.
Book Synopsis The Absolute Shadow by : Elena Caramazza
Download or read book The Absolute Shadow written by Elena Caramazza and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores Jung’s central concept of shadow from a particular configuration that the author calls "Absolute Shadow," placing it in relation to the idea of destiny as catastrophic. Clinically based and supported by a vast number of therapy cases, the book exemplifies how the Absolute Shadow is a result of the projection of the most fragile and destructive parts of one’s psyche. In some cases, it may cause loss of identity and, through the mechanisms of false/double personality, is bound to result in psychosis. Other aspects of the Shadow, like the intergenerational shadow, are also examined in depth. The Absolute Shadow is the well-informed result of Caramazza’s fifty years of study and clinical experience. It is important reading for Jungian and depth psychologists, as well as for psychoanalytic students, trainees, and clinicians of all schools of thought.
