Book Synopsis Turbulent coherent structures, Secondary currents and Sediment ridges by : Scherer, Markus Maximilian
Download or read book Turbulent coherent structures, Secondary currents and Sediment ridges written by Scherer, Markus Maximilian and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2024-06-19 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of secondary currents and subaqueous sediment patterns in natural rivers is analysed from first principles. For this purpose, simulations of sediment transport in canonical turbulent open channel flows are performed using a numerical technique that resolves all relevant flow scales and the dynamics of the individual sand grains. The high-fidelity datasets reveal the fundamental importance of individual coherent structures for the development of sediment patterns and secondary flows.
Book Synopsis The Lattice Boltzmann Method by : Timm Krüger
Download or read book The Lattice Boltzmann Method written by Timm Krüger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-07 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the theory, practice, and implementation of the Lattice Boltzmann (LB) method, a powerful computational fluid dynamics method that is steadily gaining attention due to its simplicity, scalability, extensibility, and simple handling of complex geometries. The book contains chapters on the method's background, fundamental theory, advanced extensions, and implementation. To aid beginners, the most essential paragraphs in each chapter are highlighted, and the introductory chapters on various LB topics are front-loaded with special "in a nutshell" sections that condense the chapter's most important practical results. Together, these sections can be used to quickly get up and running with the method. Exercises are integrated throughout the text, and frequently asked questions about the method are dealt with in a special section at the beginning. In the book itself and through its web page, readers can find example codes showing how the LB method can be implemented efficiently on a variety of hardware platforms, including multi-core processors, clusters, and graphics processing units. Students and scientists learning and using the LB method will appreciate the wealth of clearly presented and structured information in this volume.

Book Synopsis Deposition of Fine Sediments in Turbulent Flows by : Emmanuel Partheniades
Download or read book Deposition of Fine Sediments in Turbulent Flows written by Emmanuel Partheniades and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deposition of fine cohesive sediments in a turbulent flow field was studied in a system of a rotating annular channel and ring. The percentage of the total sediment that a given flow can maintain in suspension depends only on the bed shear stress and is independent of the initial sediment concentration. The percentage (C) of the depositable sediment deposited at time t has been found to vary with time according to the law (C = alpha logt + beta), where the coefficient a is independent of the flow conditions and sediment concentration, while the coefficient b is a function of the bed shear stress only. Both a and b depend on the physiochemical properties of the sediment and the water environment. Deposition rates are proportional to the depositable sediment concentration and inversely proportional to time.
Book Synopsis An Introduction to Hydraulics of Fine Sediment Transport by : Ashish J Mehta
Download or read book An Introduction to Hydraulics of Fine Sediment Transport written by Ashish J Mehta and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013-09-30 with total page 1060 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents observations on the phenomena of fine sediment transport and their explanations under process-related divisions such as flocculation, erosion, and deposition. The text is a compilation of the author's lecture notes from nearly four decades of teaching and guiding graduate students in civil and coastal engineering. Illustrations of fine sediment transport processes and their complexities given in the book are taken from field and laboratory-based observations by the author and his students, as well as numerous investigators. The wide-ranging composition of particles (of inorganic and organic matter), their universal presence and their complex interactions with hydraulic forces make this branch of science a difficult one to deal with in a single treatise. It is therefore essential to study fine sediment transport as an independent subject rather than cover it in no more than a single chapter as many texts on coarse sediment transport have done. Even though the entire coverage is “introductory”, the twelve chapters collectively include more material than what can be reasonably dealt with in a one semester, three-credit course. The book includes an extensive description of the components of fine-grained — especially cohesive — sediment transport. It covers the development of the subject in scientific and engineering applications mainly from the 1950s to its present state. Solved examples and chapter-end exercises are also included. This text is aimed at senior civil engineering undergraduates and graduate students who, in the normal course of their study, seldom come across the subject of fine sediment transport in their curricula. Interested students should have a basic understanding of the mechanics of fluid flow and open channel hydraulics.
Book Synopsis Cohesive Sediments in Open Channels by : Emmanuel Partheniades
Download or read book Cohesive Sediments in Open Channels written by Emmanuel Partheniades and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2009-03-23 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control the impact of cohesive sediments on open channels by managing the effects of silt, clay and other sediments in harbors, estuaries and reservoirs. Cohesive Sediments in Open Channels provides you with a practical framework for understanding how cohesive sediments are transported, deposited and eroded.
