Download or read book Wellsville written by Thelma Rogers Genealogical and Historical Society and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The town of Wellsville is located in the rolling hills of the northern reaches of the Allegheny Range of the Appalachian Mountains, east of Allegany County, just a few miles north of the Pennsylvania border. Wellsville was established in 1855, making it a relatively young town in comparison to others in New York. When the Erie Railroad was completed through Wellsville in 1851, tanning and lumber concerns gained much larger markets, and in the next 10 years, the population grew fourfold. The discovery of oil in 1879 brought even more people. George "Gabby" Hayes was as at home on the stages of Wellsville as he was on a Hollywood screen, and William Duke, world-famous trainer of the 1925 Kentucky Derby winner, Flying Ebony, called Wellsville his home. In addition to its steam turbine and heat recovery industries, Wellsville hosts a vibrant and growing campus of Alfred State College.

Book Synopsis Historic Railroads of Nebraska by : Michael M. Bartels
Download or read book Historic Railroads of Nebraska written by Michael M. Bartels and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advance of Union Pacific Railroad tracklayers across Nebraska was part of America's great adventure of the 19th century. It marked the beginning of the era of the "iron horse" in Nebraska-a time when the whistle of an approaching train became synonymous with prosperity and contact with the outside world. Historic Railroads of Nebraska takes a photographic journey down the tracks of the five major railroads and various short lines that helped Nebraska progress into a national center of agriculture and business. The trip begins with the formative years of Nebraska towns that were established along railroad lines in the 19th century. It then travels through the 20th century and documents the major changes and challenges that the railroad industry faced. Through over 200 photographs, this book chronicles the era of streamlined passenger trains, rustic steam locomotives, and a bustling Omaha Union Station. The journey makes stops at railroad landmarks, significant cities, the state's only railroad tunnel, and the legendary North Platte Canteen.

Book Synopsis Electric Power and Energy in China by : Zhenya Liu
Download or read book Electric Power and Energy in China written by Zhenya Liu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-06-11 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acute energy problems facing China today are characterized by their own histories and realities. Some have come about because of China's energy endowment and stage of development, while others have been created by a combination of domestic and global factors. Some are the results of an accumulation of longstanding contradictions, while others are new challenges posed by the new order. There are no "miracle cures" to solve these problems instantly. What is needed is a tireless enquiry, with goals, planning and procedures, guided by a clear energy strategy. With China's increasing dependence on foreign energy sources, and the global energy situation and greenhouse gas issue exerting an increasingly prohibiting effect on China's energy development, energy diplomacy has become an important component of Chinese diplomatic affairs. Based on a "broad energy outlook", this book studies and analyzes China's energy issues and energy strategies from the perspective of electric power. Discusses a variety of issues, including energy transportation and allocation, end-user consumption, markets, early warning and emergency, technical innovation As a leading player in the power and energy area, China’s strategies attracts global attention Proposes the innovative idea of "Macro Energy Perspective" As a key player in China's energy industrial circle, the author's perspective can help global audiences to understand China's energy strategies better Electric Power and Energy in China is ideal for government energy policy makers, engineers, scientists and enterprise managers to understand China’s strategy in electric power and energy. It is also a good reference for energy economics researchers, consultants and university students.
