Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From October 10 to 12, 1991 the Second International Conference on Trends in Astroparticle-Physics took place at Aachen, Germany. The meeting was the second in a series that started in 1990 at UCLA. It was attended by about 100 physicists from allover the world and covered the interface of elementary particles and astrophysics. Topics covered included Neutrino-Telescopes in preparation, high energy gamma ray physics, but also new ideas for future detectors. detectors, cosmology and particle Many people have worked hard on the preparation for the meeting and deserve many thanks, in particular D. Rein, L. Sehgal, U. Berson, G. Wurm, C. Wiebusch, C. Ley, and U. Braun. Representing the conference secretariat, I. Goidie, U. Packbier, and L. Jenckins were of great help. We also would like to thank the Stadtsparkasse Aachen, in particular Mr. Fischer, Mrs Cremers and Direktor Schwind for their support and providing the meeting facilities as well as making possible in parallel a public exhibition on the topic of the conference. Very special thanks goes to H. Geller, without whom this conference could not have taken place. Last but not least we wish to thank the speakers for taking their time in preparing their talks and presenting their results, making this publication possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume contains the expanded lectures of a meeting on relativistic astrophysics, the goal of which was to provide a modern introduction to specific aspects of the field for young researchers, as well as for nonspecialists from related areas. Particular emphasis is placed on the theory of black holes and evolution, relativistic stars and jet hydrodynamics, as well as the production and detection of gravitational waves. The book is complemented by further contributions and animation supplied on the accompanying CD-ROM.

Book excerpt: Modern Trends in Physics Research MTPR-08 was the third of the International Conference series held biannually by the Physics Department in Faculty of Science of Cairo University. The objectives of the conference are to develop greater understanding of physics research and its applications to promote new industries; to innovate knowledge about recent breakthroughs in physics, both the fundamental and technological aspects; to implement of international cooperation in new trends in physics research and to improve the performance of the physics research facilities in Egypt. This proceeding highlights the latest results in the fields of astrophysics, atomic, molecular, condensed matter, lasers, nuclear and particle physics. The peer refereed papers collected in this volume, were written by international experts in these fields. The keynote lecture, “Overview on the Era of the Exploration of the Planets and Planetary Systems,” delivered by Professor Jay M Pasachoff of Williams College — Hopkins Observatory was featured in the proceedings. As 2008 was the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, which began the Space Age, this volume is a unique collection of keynote, plenary and invited presentations covering fields of astrophysics, atomic physics, condensed matter physics as well as nanotechnology, molecular physics and laser physics. This volume will serve as a useful reference for scientists in modern physics and technology of the 21st century.

Book Synopsis Astroparticle Physics: Theory and Phenomenology by : Günter Sigl
Download or read book Astroparticle Physics: Theory and Phenomenology written by Günter Sigl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 877 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This books aims at giving an overview over theoretical and phenomenological aspects of particle astrophysics and particle cosmology. To be of interest for both students and researchers in neighboring fields of physics, it keeps a balance between well established foundations that will not significantly change in the future and a more in-depth treatment of selected subfields in which significant new developments have been taking place recently. These include high energy particle astrophysics, such as cosmic high energy neutrinos, the interplay between detection techniques of dark matter in the laboratory and in high energy cosmic radiation, axion-like particles, and relics of the early Universe such as primordial magnetic fields and gravitational waves. It also contains exercises and thus will be suitable for both introductory and advanced courses in astroparticle physics.
Book Synopsis Multiple Messengers and Challenges in Astroparticle Physics by : Roberto Aloisio
Download or read book Multiple Messengers and Challenges in Astroparticle Physics written by Roberto Aloisio and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, designed as a tool for young researchers and graduate students, reviews the main open problems and research lines in various fields of astroparticle physics: cosmic rays, gamma rays, neutrinos, cosmology, and gravitational physics. The opening section discusses cosmic rays of both galactic and extragalactic origin, examining experimental results, theoretical models, and possible future developments. The basics of gamma-ray astronomy are then described, including the detection methods and techniques. Galactic and extragalactic aspects of the field are addressed in the light of recent discoveries with space-borne and ground-based detectors. The review of neutrinos outlines the status of the investigations of neutrino radiation and brings together relevant formulae, estimations, and background information. Three complementary issues in cosmology are examined: observable predictions of inflation in the early universe, effects of dark energy/modified gravity in the large-scale structure of the universe, and neutrinos in cosmology and large-scale structures. The closing section on gravitational physics reviews issues relating to quantum gravity, atomic precision tests, space-based experiments, the strong field regime, gravitational waves, multi-messengers, and alternative theories of gravity.
