This book was released on 2018-04-18 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The meditations of St. Francis of Sales on the loving nature of God and the Holy Spirit contain abundant spiritual insight - this edition contains all twelve of his books, complete and unabridged with annotations. A superb compendium of thoughts which examine the multi-faceted nature of holiness in the Christian religion, the Treatise on the Love of God is lauded for its immense expressions of emotional and spiritual depth. The supreme will of God, acting in myriad ways, is shown to be the origination of all love on the Earth, divined to humanity by the Son of God and in the words and lessons of the Holy Bible. The author discusses topics such as God's influence over his creations, the manner in which men often shun or repulse the love of God, and how such love - when accepted - can progress a living soul's fulfillment. Following the lessons of God will result in benevolence, yet such a following requires humbleness: we must concede to God being the source of all that is good, loving and worthy in the universe. For the author, the attainment of closeness with the divine is both the highest good and the highest pleasure. The love that flows from the being of God, and how prayer is the ideal means of realizing such a beneficence, are steps on each human soul's unity with the Lord. Contemplating what constitutes the divine, and following the instruction received during the reading of God's words, are crucial parts of spiritual direction as interpreted by St. Francis. For St. Francis, spiritual growth proceeded on a series of levels. The initial stages consist of good deeds and adherence to a moral code, regular church attendance, and a basic knowledge of the holy precepts of Christianity. These are the founding basis upon which the higher tiers described in this text, whereby one attains - with time and dedication - a measure of understanding and affinity with the holy love of God and Jesus Christ. This edition contains all twelve books in their entirety, together with helpful notes of scriptural references. The translation of the books into modern English was accomplished by Henry Benedict Mackey, an English priest and scholar whose piety and knowledge of the saintly virtues allowed for accuracy and authenticity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treatise on the Love of God is a manual intended to help believers strengthen their devotion to God. De Sales describes his project by saying, "it is truly my intention to represent simply and naïvely, without art, still more without false colours, the history of the birth, progress, decay, operations, properties, advantages and excellences of divine love." The Treatise is divided into twelve books. The first four books explain the nature of the human soul and provide the history of divine love. Book Five explores the two principle exercises of love, namely, sacred complacency and benevolence. Books Six and Seven discuss the importance of practicing love through prayer, while Books Eight and Nine express the importance of submitting to God's will. The final three books are devoted to exploring the practical importance of God's holy love in our lives. De Sales' Treatise is a captivating depiction of love.

Book excerpt: God's Unfailing Love "For God so loved the world, that He gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." -John 3:16 (NIV) This devotional was born and written from scripture, prayer, and listening to the Holy Spirit. As you read, let the love of God inspire and encourage your heart, spirit, and mind. Since life has many twists and turns, let the words of this devotional bring you peace and comfort. In reading these words and praying these prayers, expect God to deepen your experience and relationship with him. The power of God's love is like no other love, and it can be trusted because it is constant, unmovable, unconditional, and everlasting. As you sit in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, let him draw you near, embracing you in "God's unfailing love." In writing this devotional, it allowed me the opportunity to share the love of God with others, and this devotional guide can be used any and all times. I would like to give special thanks and gratitude to my husband for his support and sister, Norma Cook, for her support, editing, and mentoring every step of the way. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's Love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. ––Roman 8:38–39 (NIV)

Book excerpt: This Treatise which I now present you, may be in some way serviceable to you, and that in it you will meet with many wholesome considerations which you would not elsewhere so easily find. We all look towards the glory of holy love. my intention is only to represent simply and naively, without art, still more without false colors, the history of the birth, progress, decay, operations, properties, advantages and excellences of divine love. This Treatise then is made for a soul already devout that she may be able to advance in her design, and hence I have been forced to say many things somewhat unknown to the generality, and which will therefore appear more obscure than they are. My purpose here is to speak to souls that are advanced in devotion.

Book excerpt: The single most important task for any Christian is to love God with all their heart, with all their soul, and with all their mind. But what does loving with the mind look like? How can we know if our soul-love is real? And how do we grow in our heart-love? In this practical and persuasive book Dr LaFountain breaks down these three very distinct types of love. She presents each one on a continuum and provides psychological tools for the reader to self-evaluate their placement along the continuum. Biblical and psychological strategies are provided that help the reader navigate their heart, soul, and mind towards fully loving God. Understanding the uniqueness of the three types of love and how to apply each to our relationship with God allows us to fulfill the first and greatest commandment of loving God. Then perhaps when we finally meet God face-to-face we will hear ‘Well done my good and faithful servant.’ A MUST-READ for anyone serious about growing in their love of God. — Pastor Stephen Smickley, Church Leadership Coach. Dr. A. LaFountain is well placed to explore and develop the application of psychology to Christian behavior. In this book she provides a step-by-step self-help practice to guide her readers in fulfilling the primary goal of their religious faith. It is a valuable resource inviting reflection, change and personal development. — Dr. Michelle Peoples, Clinical Psychologist, St John of Gods, Dublin, Ireland.

Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

Although wonderfully simple, the idea that God is fundamentally loving is incredibly profound. And yet, sometimes we confuse God’s love with our human understanding of love—an understanding that is inherently imperfect, sometimes self-serving, and often fickle. Helping us walk in the belief that God is love—not that love is God—this book explores what the Bible actually teaches about how and what God loves. Readers will discover that, although we often misunderstand, misuse, and take for granted God’s love, it’s actually more wonderful, pure, and satisfying than we ever imagined.

I should say that God Himself is the motive of our love to Him, and that the measure of due love is to be without measure. Is this clear enough? Perhaps it may be for a person of intelligence, but I desire to answer for both the learned and unlearned; and, though I may have said enough for the former, I must remember others also. Book excerpt: “A marvel of succinctness, this presentation is one of the best I have seen for initial direction in the faith once delivered to the Fathers.” —Dr. Paige Patterson Ted Rivera unpacks the mystery of God’s will with a simple yet profound look at what Jesus called the two greatest commandments: loving God and loving others. Filled with examples drawn from everyday life, Rivera’s book is practical and wise, a welcome primer for any student of the Bible wanting to deepen their understanding of how to follow Jesus rightly. In the end, Rivera concludes, Jesus isn’t looking merely for consistency in obedience but for obedience in love. Indeed, all our good deeds “are utterly worthless if they are disconnected from a heart that beats not only with love for our God, but also with love for our fellow human beings.” The Heart of Love urges readers toward a deepened faith and a greater imitation of the God who is love.
