Download or read book Random Demands, Travel Times, and Water Quality in Deadends written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The broad goal of this study is to improve our ability to understand, model and predict the flow and quality of drinking water in municipal distribution systems. This study establishes a long-term continuous record of water consumption and water quality in a residential neighborhood served by a dead-end pipe in a small community near Cincinnati, Ohio. Using this record of water demands and quality, specific objectives of this project are to: Characterize statistical properties and patterns of water demand and water quality; Test the hypothesis that residential water use is a time dependent Poisson process; Derive travel time distributions for water delivered to consumers on the deadend loop; Determine if surrogate quality parameters are useful indicators of system integrity; Check for significant correlations between system water quality and travel times; Evaluate the usefulness of real-time monitoring of distribution system water quality -- Executive summary.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for Nitrate in the Urban Region of the South Platte River, with Emphasis on Segment 14 by :
Download or read book Analysis of Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for Nitrate in the Urban Region of the South Platte River, with Emphasis on Segment 14 written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the results of an analysis of nitrate concentrations in the South Platte River between Chatfield Dam and the Burlington Ditch headgate (Upper South Platte Segments 6c and 14). The analysis is applicable to present and future conditions. Because the context for the analysis is a TMDL for nitrate, all influences on loads and concentrations of nitrate are taken into account as fully as possible on the basis of monitoring data, effluent characteristics, or other pertinent information. The focus of the analysis is on low-flow conditions because critical concentrations of nitrate coincide with minimum availability of dilution for point-source discharges. For this reason, identification of critical low flows is a major component of the analysis.
Book Synopsis Prediction of Traveltime and Longitudinal Dispersion in Rivers and Streams by : Harvey E. Jobson
Download or read book Prediction of Traveltime and Longitudinal Dispersion in Rivers and Streams written by Harvey E. Jobson and published by . This book was released on 2001-03-01 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possibility of a contaminant being accidentally or intentionally spilled upstream from a water supply is a constant concern to those diverting and using water from streams and rivers. A method of rapidly estimating traveltime or dispersion is needed for pollution control or warning systems on streams where data are limited. Discusses the theory of movement and dispersion of dissolved pollutants. Contains a summary of the methods used to collect time-of-travel info. Methods are recommended for estimating the rate of movement and attenuation of conservative pollutants based on an analysis of the data. The application of these results is illustrated by the use of 3 examples.
