Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of SHRP 2 project C08, Community Visioning Approach to Support the SHRP 2 Collaborative Decision-Making Framework for Additions to Highway Capacity, was to help transportation agency practitioners assess the possibilities of community visioning efforts, identify practical steps and activities when engaging in visioning, and establish links between vision outcomes and transportation planning and project development processes. To these ends, this research presents a model - the Vision Guide - or the preparation, creation, and implementation of a visioning process. A companion web tool was also developed. SHRP 2 Report S2-C08-RR-1: Linking Community Visioning and Highway Capacity Planning is available as a PDF and through the TRB bookstore. The appendices, which include case studies and a collection of resources, were published as a separate document, S2-C08-RW-2, and are available only as a PDF. The Vision Guide is connected to the transportation planning and project development processes identified in related SHRP 2 Capacity research and presented in the Decision Guide structure on the website Transportation for Communities - Advancing Projects through Partnership (TCAPP), found at transportationforcommunities.com"--Publisher's description

Book excerpt: Two conferences on Refocusing Transportation Planning for the 21st Century were held in 1999 following passage of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21). The first conference focused on the identification of key trends, issues, and general areas of research. The results of Conference I, which produced stand-alone products, were used as input for Conference II. The second conference had the specific objective of producing research problem statements. Its mission was to review the results of the first conference by developing these statements. Conference II produced a number of detailed research statements that form the basis for the National Agenda for Transportation Planning Research. The proceedings of both conferences are presented in this report.
Download or read book Mobility First written by Sam Staley and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2009 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traffic congestion is a growing problem and unless policy makers and transportation officials make some dramatic changes, it will rise to unacceptable levels by 2030. In, Sam Staley and Adrian Moore explain the inefficient systems and politics that cause this escalating epidemic, presenting commonsense, high-tech solutions that will ease congestion and its troubling consequences. The book considers transportation policy through the intersection of four crucial and timely elements: global, economic, and cultural competitiveness; urban development trends; demographics; and transportation engineering and design. It sets goals for congestion reduction, outlines performance standards that increase transparency, calls for the redesign of the regional transportation network, and describes sufficient investment in technology.
