Book Synopsis Geochemistry of Organic Matter in River-Sea Systems by : V.E. Artemyev
Download or read book Geochemistry of Organic Matter in River-Sea Systems written by V.E. Artemyev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the basic concepts of ocean biogeochemistry is that of an ocean with extremely active boundary zones and separation boundaries of extensive biochemical interactions. The areas of these zones are characterized by a sharp decrease of element migration intensity and consequently the decrease in their concentrations gave the boundaries for the naming of the geochemical barriers (Perelman, 1972). For the purposes of biogeo chemistry the most important ones are the boundaries of separation between river-sea, ocean-atmosphere, and water-ground (Lisitzin, 1983). The most complicated of them is the river-sea boundary, where the biogeochemical processes are the most active and complicated (Monin and Romankevich, 1979, 1984). The necessity of studying organic matter in rivers, mouth regions and adjoining sea aquatories has been repeatedly pointed out by v.I. Vernadsky (1934, 1960) who noted both the importance of registration of solid and liquid run-off of rivers, coming into the sea, and "the quality and the character of those elements, which are washed-down into the sea", emphasizing that "wash-down of organic substances into the sea is of great value". The interest in studying organic matter in natural waters, including river and sea waters, has grown considerably over the last 30 years. During this period essential material was collected on the content and composition of organic matter in various types of river waters of the USSR, and this was published in papers by B.A Scopintzev, AD. Semenov, M.V.

Book Synopsis International Conference on Isotopes and Environmental Studies by : Pavel P. Povinec
Download or read book International Conference on Isotopes and Environmental Studies written by Pavel P. Povinec and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-03-08 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of the book are assembled from selected papers presented during the International Conference on Isotopes in Environmental Studies – AQUATIC FORUM 2004 convened in Monaco from 25 to 29 October 2004, which was the most important gathering of the year of isotope environmental scientists. The book reviews the present state of the art isotopic methods for better understanding of key processes in the aquatic environment, responsible for its future development and its protection. The main highlights include the latest developments in the study of the behaviour, transport and distribution of isotopes in the aquatic environment, recent climate change records using isotopic tracers in the environment, global isotopic oceanic studies, new trends in radioecological investigations and modelling, impact of groundwater-seawater interactions on coastal zones, groundwater dynamics and modelling, important for management of freshwater resources, development of new isotopic techniques, such as AMS, RIMS and ICPMS, and their applications in environmental studies, new trends in radiometrics underground techniques, new in situ radiometrics technologies and many other exciting topics which were presented and discussed during the Conference. The proceedings constitute an important contribution to the environmental isotopic research. In publishing this book the aim is to make the use of isotopes more widespread in the environmental disciplines and to further stimulate work in this exciting field. Presents selected papers from the International Conference on Isotopes in Environmental Studies - AQUATIC FORUM 2004 Addresses state-of-the-art isotopic methods for better understanding of key processes in the aquatic environment Aims to make the use of isotopes more widespread in the environmental disciplines and to further stimulate work in this exciting field
Book Synopsis Sedimentary Basins by : Gerhard Einsele
Download or read book Sedimentary Basins written by Gerhard Einsele and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This completely revised and enlarged second edition provides an up-to-date overview of all major topics in sedimentary geology. It is unique in its quantitative approach to denudation-accumulation systems and basin fillings, including dynamic aspects. The relationship between tectonism and basin evolution as well as the concepts of sequence cycle and event stratigraphy in various depositional environments are extensively discussed. Numerous, often composite figures, a well-structured text, brief summaries in boxes, and several examples from all continents make the book an invaluable source of information for students, researchers and professors in academia as well as for professionals in the oil industry.
Book Synopsis Concepts and Applications in Environmental Geochemistry by : Dibyendu Sarkar
Download or read book Concepts and Applications in Environmental Geochemistry written by Dibyendu Sarkar and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-09-14 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is for environmental researchers and government policy makers who are required to monitor environmental quality for their environmental investigators and remediation plans. It uses concepts and applications to aid in the exchange of scientific information across all the environmental science disciplines ranging from geochemistry to hydrogeology and ecology to biotechnology. Focusing on issues such as metals, organics and nutrient contamination of water and soils, and interactions between soil-water-plants-chemicals, the book synthesizes the latest findings in this rapidly-developing, multi-disciplinary field. Cutting-edge environmental analytical methods are also presented, making this a must-have for professionals tasked with monitoring environmental quality. These concepts and applications help in decision making and problem solving in a single resource. *Integrative approach promotes the exchange of scientific information among different disciplines*New concepts and case studies make the text unique among existing resources*Tremendous practical value in environmental quality and remediation with an emphasis on human health and ecological risk assessment
Book Synopsis Freshwaters of Alaska by : Alexander M. Milner

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alaska's great size is mirrored by the large number and diversity of its freshwater ecosystems. This volume reviews and synthesizes research on a variety of Alaskan freshwaters including lakes, rivers and wetlands. The vast range of Alaskan habitats ensures that the chapters in this book will provide valuable information for readers interested in freshwaters, particularly nutrient dynamics, biotic adaptations, recovery mechanisms of aquatic biota, stream succession and the management of human-induced changes in aquatic habitats.
Download or read book Rotifera IX written by L. Sanoamuang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a record of the proceedings of the IXth International Rotifer Symposium, which was held in Khon Kaen, Thailand, on January 16-23, 2000. It contains reviews and research papers dealing with diverse aspects of scientific research related to Rotifera and their ecology. Some of the topics addressed are: taxonomy and zoogeography, ecology, phylogeny and evolution, physiology, biochemistry and population genetics, aquaculture, and ecotoxicology. This book contains a compilation of contemporary rotifer-related research, and is the eighth of a series of rotifer symposium proceedings published in Developments of Hydrobiology. This update of Rotifera studies should be of great interest to invertebrate zoologists, hydrobiologists, ecologists, and aquaculturists, particularly those interested in freshwater habitats.
