Download or read book Designing Competitive Electricity Markets written by Hung-po Chao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors are prominent economists, operation researchers, and engineers who have been instrumental in the development of the conceptual framework for electric power restructuring both in the United States and in other countries. Rather than espousing a particular market design for the industry's future, each author focuses on an important issue or set of issues and tries to frame the questions for designing electricity markets using an international perspective. The book focuses on the economic and technical questions important in understanding the industry's long-term development rather than providing immediate answers for the current political debates on industry competition.
Book Synopsis Assessment of Transmission Congestion for Major Electricity Markets in the US by : Santosh G. Raikar
Download or read book Assessment of Transmission Congestion for Major Electricity Markets in the US written by Santosh G. Raikar and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper details the estimated congestion rent collected by the Independent System Operators (ISO) since their inception in different electricity markets. The electricity markets analyzed are: New York Power Pool, California Power Exchange, and Pennsylvania-Jersey-Maryland (PJM) power pool. The paper describes the significant assumptions underlying the calculations and attempts to delineate the implications of the assumptions. It is observed that the congestion rent calculations are practically accurate for the California Power Exchange since most of the data pertaining to the inter-zonal transmission power flow and the inter-zonal price differential is readily available. On the contrary, the congestion rent estimation for the New York ISO involves significant assumptions. However, it can be shown that the results are reasonably accurate. The efforts for the similar calculations for the congestion rent for PJM electricity power markets proved to be futile. It would not be unfair to comment that when compared to its peer electricity markets, PJM severely lacks transparency in terms of disclosing information pertaining to the transmission congestion rent calculations.

Book Synopsis Power System Operations and Electricity Markets by : Fred I. Denny
Download or read book Power System Operations and Electricity Markets written by Fred I. Denny and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electric power industry in the U.S. has undergone dramatic changes in recent years. Tight regulations enacted in the 1970's and then de-regulation in the 90's have transformed it from a technology-driven industry into one driven by public policy requirements and the open-access market. Now, just as the utility companies must change to ensure their survival, engineers and other professionals in the industry must acquire new skills, adopt new attitudes, and accommodate other disciplines. Power System Operations and Electricity Markets provides the information engineers need to understand and meet the challenges of the new competitive environment. Integrating the business and technical aspects of the restructured power industry, it explains, clearly and succinctly, how new methods for power systems operations and energy marketing relate to public policy, regulation, economics, and engineering science. The authors examine the technologies and techniques currently in use and lay the groundwork for the coming era of unbundling, open access, power marketing, self-generation, and regional transmission operations. The rapid, massive changes in the electric power industry and in the economy have rendered most books on the subject obsolete. Based on the authors' years of front-line experience in the industry and in regulatory organizations, Power System Operations and Electricity Markets is current, insightful, and complete with Web links that will help readers stay up to date.
