Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the complete English version of Eliphas Levi's treatise on ritual magic. This work is in two parts: in this one we establish the kabalistic and magical doctrine in its entirety; the other one, called "The Ritual of Transcendental Magic", is consecrated to the cultus, that is, to Ceremonial Magic. The one is that which the ancient sages termed the Clavicle, the other that which people on the country-side still call the Grimoire. The numbers and subjects of the chapters which correspond in both parts, are in no sense arbitrary, and are all indicated in the great universal key, of which we give for the first time a complete and adequate explanation. Let this work now go its way where it will and become what Providence determines; it is finished, and we believe it to be enduring, because it is strong, like all that is reasonable and conscientious. Book excerpt: "ELIPHAS LEVI ZAHED is a pseudonym which was adopted in his occult writings by Alphonse Louis Constant, and it is said to be the Hebrew equivalent of that name. The author of the Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie was born in humble circumstances about the year 1810, being the son of a shoemaker. Giving evidence of unusual intelligence at an early age, the priest of his parish conceived a kindly interest for the obscure boy, and got him on the foundation of Saint Sulpice, where he was educated without charge, and with a view to the priesthood. He seems to have passed through the course of study at that seminary in a way which did not disappoint the expectations raised concerning him. In addition to Greek and Latin, he is believed to have acquired considerable knowledge of Hebrew, though it would be an error to suppose that any of his published works exhibit special linguistic attainments. He entered on his clerical novitiate, took minor orders, and in due course became a deacon, being thus bound by a vow of perpetual celibacy. Shortly after this step, he was suddenly expelled from Saint Sulpice for holding opinions contrary to the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church." A. E. Waite

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the transcendental magicians appeared, the traditional magicians had no idea what to make of them. The newcomers said they knew the true basis of magic. Magic, real magic, is all about the power of the mind. Not the conscious mind, but the unconscious mind. The source of magic is the mind we know nothing about, the hidden mind, the secret mind, the second mind, the occult mind. Humanity hasn't even begun to grasp the power of the unconscious. But the transcendental magicians made the unconscious – the transcendental unconscious – the focus of their search for the powers that transform the world. Transcendental magic marries psychology, physics, metaphysics and mathematics. Magic is literally built into the fiber and fabric of existence. All you need to do is work out the magic code. Then you can hack reality and achieve your dreams. The new magicians have come forth. Transcendental magic is the most powerful magic of all. The Magic Wars are about to begin.

Book excerpt: First published in 1896, "Transcendental Magic, its Doctrine and Ritual" is the English translation by A. E. Waite of Éliphas Lévi's French classic "Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magic", originally published in two volumes in 1854 and 1856. Waite, an American-born British author and scholar best known for his part in co-creating the Rider-Waite tarot deck, translated Lévi's influential and widely read first treatise into English and expanded upon it with a biographical preface on the life and significance of the author and added footnotes to the work to aid the reader in understanding the detailed material. Lévi's treatise draws connections between religions and belief systems all over the world and finds that they share in common an underlying transcendental magical power. Waite writes in the introduction that "there are found indications of a doctrine which is everywhere the same and everywhere carefully concealed." This common and hidden transcendental magic is viewed by Lévi as a way to connect science with religion so that they may co-exist. "Transcendental Magic" remains a popular and informative treatise on the occult, ritual magic, the Kabbalah, and other mystical beliefs, as well as a valuable resource for those interested in the relationship between magic, science, and religion. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first treatise on magic by Éliphas Lévi and one of his fundamental works. In this book, he criticizes magic as a collection of methods and rituals. Instead, he says magic is a universal power and attribute of a man, an eternal religion that existed before Christianity and other religions. According to his theory, proper magic as an attribute of a human is a combination of psychic force, will, and imagination. He calls the ordinary miracles attributed to unnecessary magic exaggerations. Yet, the access to the true magic is constricted only to a narrow circle of selected people, or Magi. Those who go through the initiation to Magi acquire force to alter human wills. His works became quickly popular, as their publication coincided with the interest in magic and occultism in the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. It also greatly influenced the magic of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Also, in this text, Éliphas Lévi, for the first time, pointed out that a pentagram or five-pointed star with one point down and two points up represents evil, while a pentagram with one end up and two points down represent the good.

While this work may be considered controversial in some circles, it is a useful tool for anyone that wants to get a basic understanding of what lays beyond the veil of magic and power. Although this kind of work can be dangerous to those that are unprepared for what lays within, those that want to understand a side of society that is often looked down on, this would be a good starting point.
