Book Synopsis The Spirit of the Tarot by : Claudine Aegerter
Download or read book The Spirit of the Tarot written by Claudine Aegerter and published by Aeon Books. This book was released on 2009-12-31 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a new exploration of the Tarot, which reveals the esoteric numerological links underlying this ancient system and connects the teaching of the Tarot to the initiatic journey of the Soul. If you are aspiring to connect with the mysteries of our life on this planet or you are already a disciple in some school of spiritual attainment, this is a book which will illuminate your way. As we explore beyond those physical emotional and mental aspects that we call the personality, we find another energy that is not so easy to define and which seems to move us at a deeper level; this is the Soul. When we are receptive to the Soul's mystery we can start to connect to the universal collective energy of the Spirit. The different stages in the fusion of personality and Soul and the unknown, unseen alchemy of transmutation from matter to Spirit are illustrated by the twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana. The symbols are explained and the deeper esoteric meaning of each card is explored with the help of number. This provides practical steps that can be applied to the everyday lives of those who seek greater consciousness. Claudine Aegerter started Transcendental Meditation in 1970, then joined the National Federation of Spiritual Healers, where she realised her abilities to channel. She then started teaching and giving workshops in esoteric subjects. As a leader in her field, a counsellor and a healer, she founded the Connaissance School of Numerology in 1993, bringing unique insights into the initiation of consciousness to many around the world. Berenice Benjelloun has worked as a professional artist, Homeopath, workshop leader and Numerologist. The inspiration and underlying energy behind all her occupations has always been the promotion of the expanding consciousness of mankind. She teaches at The Connaissance School of Numerology and is Vice chair of the Association Internationale de Numerologues.

One Thousand White Women begins with May Dodd’s journey into an unknown world. Having been committed to an insane asylum by her blue-blood family for the crime of loving a man beneath her station, May finds that her only hope for freedom and redemption is to participate in a secret government program whereby women from “civilized” society become the brides of Cheyenne warriors. What follows is a series of breathtaking adventures—May’s brief, passionate romance with the gallant young army captain John Bourke; her marriage to the great chief Little Wolf; and her conflict of being caught between loving two men and living two completely different lives. “Fergus portrays the perceptions and emotions of women...with tremendous insight and sensitivity.”—Booklist “A superb tale of sorrow, suspense, exultation, and triumph.” —Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump

Book Synopsis What If the Sun... by : Charles Ferdinand Ramuz
Download or read book What If the Sun... written by Charles Ferdinand Ramuz and published by . This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What might the end of the world look like, to people who inhabit high mountains, whose lives are governed by the dependable revolution of the seasons? Perhaps the sun might slip beneath a western ridge one evening, and not return in the morning. In the first half of the 20th century, that terrifying prospect represented a mild version of hell. Real hell would be knowing in advance that it was going to happen. And so, revisiting a theme that Charles Ferdinand Ramuz had explored many times before in his fiction-notably in a short story that he wrote in 1912, on the eve of another war-he bestowed upon the villagers of Upper Saint-Martin the dreadful knowledge that the sun was sick and would soon expire, leaving them to die alone in the cold and the dark. The prophecy falls from the lips of the village sage and healer, Antoine Anzevui. The weather seems to bear him out. But the sun abandons those parts for a few months every year, so to accept the prophecy means to have faith in the prophet-to believe him when he says that the life-giving star won't return as expected in the spring. What holds for Upper Saint-Martin holds for the rest of the world, because in Ramuz's novels the village is the world and the world is the village Written in Fench as Si le soleil ne revenait pas and translated into English for the first time by Michelle Bailt-Jones, here are both the 1912 short story and the 1937 novel - What if the sun..."

Download or read book Reflections of Nero written by Jaś Elsner and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The familiar image of Nero (37-68 A.D.) is that of a tyrannical, lustful, and inept emperor. This collection of thirteen original essays provides a fresh interpretation of Nero and his era, assessing the full spectrum of the period's culture and politics--aspects that until now have rarely been taken seriously. The introduction sets the myth of Nero in a modern context and explores its enduring fascination. The next section of the book examines how the myth of Nero has developed both in Roman historiography and in modern popular culture, including films. The remaining essays address the culture of Neroian Rome, including its history, literature, art, and architecture. The result is a dramatic reevaluation of the era, recapturing the richness and vitality of the age of Nero. The contributors are Susan E. Alcock, Tamsyn Barton, Catherine Connors, Catharine Edwards, Jas Elsner, Justin Goddard, Emily Gowers, Jamie Masters, Joan Pau-Rubies, Alessandro Schiesaro, Yun Lee Too, Gareth Williams, and Maria Wyke.

Book Synopsis The Life and Works of Lili Boulanger by : Léonie Rosenstiel
Download or read book The Life and Works of Lili Boulanger written by Léonie Rosenstiel and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite her chronic illness, the French composer Lili Boulanger (1893-1918) was able to overcome great obstacles and to achieve an unusual degree of both artistic success and public acclaim during her very short lifetime. This phenomenon is the more remarkable in that her chosen field is one in which, even today, women find it difficult to be evaluated solely on artistic merits. At the age of nineteen she was the first woman to win the prestigious Premier Grand Prix de Rome in composition, an award carrying with it extended residence at the famous Villa Medici in Rome. Even before this recognition was accorded her, some of her compositions had been performed by outstanding artists of the day and had received critical praise. This first full-length study of the life and works of Lili Boulanger is based almost entirely on sources that have hitherto been unavailable, such as family photographs, records, and documents in the possession of her only surviving relative, the eminent music pedagogue Mlle Nadia Boulanger, as well as on personal reminiscences both of Nadia Boulanger and of friends of the Boulanger family. Further information was secured from newly discovered library and archival sources in addition to the young composer's personal memorabilia, correspondence, and manuscript scores, which have never before been made available for study. In order to describe accurately the ambience of the places visited by Lili Boulanger during her life, the author not only undertook the necessary archival research, but also personally retraced the travels of the composer through six European countries, using the same means of transportation that the young composer had used. Born into a family with a long tradition of artistic accomplishment, surrounded during her twenty-four years by a devoted family and friends, Lili Boulanger became a creative, productive human being. The best of her works--especially those she wrote after winning the Prix de Rome in 1913--display firmness, delicacy, strength, and mastery of compositional technique. Lili Boulanger's musical style ranges from impressionism, to a Wagnerian vocabulary, to post-impressionism and growing chromaticism in her last compositions. As Debussy observed, her music "undulates with grace." The author's analysis of the 91 musical examples from the oeuvre of Lili Boulanger, and the 53 illustrations, many drawn from among old family photographs and other privately held manuscript sources, provide two of the many highlights of this superior biography.
