Download or read book Back-up Training Requirements for the Digitized Battlefield written by Margaret S. Salter and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This study report provides an overview of critical training issues facing the Army as the 21st% Century Force becomes increasingly digital. The focus of this report is on understanding the significant change brought about by digitization and the ramifications that may result in degraded mode or back-up training requirements. This report is the first of three prepared under the U.S. Army Research Institute's Studies and Analysis effort titled Back-Up Training Requirements for the Digitized Battlefield. Issues and concerns documented in this report are addressed in two subsequent study reports: Analysis of Emerging Digital and Back-Up Training Requirements and Issues and Recommendations: Training the Digital Force. The impetus for this effort was provided by the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel's Directorate of Personnel Technologies. Of concern was the lack of analysis regarding how the Army should address training and sustaining conventional or back-up skills for operations when digital system capabilities become degraded. This issue will become increasingly important as digitization of the force increases and resources decrease."--DITC.

Download or read book With It Or in It written by Bacil Donovan Warren and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-02-24 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using humor and frank candor, author Bacil Donovan Warren shares his personal experience, as well as that of his fellow tankers, as part of the US Army's 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment (the "Brave Rifles") in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Warren recounts the initial shock of hearing about Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and his Regiment's preparation for deployment during Operation Desert Shield. He describes the stress and sometimes mind-numbing boredom of being deployed deep in the desert of Saudi Arabia, constantly preparing for a possible Iraqi invasion. He recalls the terrifying experience of the start of the air war of Operation Desert Storm and the workmanlike action during combat against Iraq's Republican Guard forces during Operation Desert Sabre. With It or in It brings clarity and focus to their unceasing efforts to bring the conflict to a swift and decisive end. Finally, Warren describes the triumphant return of the Brave Rifles to Ft. Bliss, Texas, and the waiting arms of their families and loved ones.
Book Synopsis US Battle Tanks 1946–2025 by : Steven J. Zaloga
Download or read book US Battle Tanks 1946–2025 written by Steven J. Zaloga and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-11-07 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and detailed illustrated examination of the development and combat performance of US battle tanks from the end of World War II through to the present day. In this, the second of two highly illustrated volumes telling the full history of the design, development, and operational use of US Army and US Marine Corps battle tanks, Steven J. Zaloga takes the story from the end of World War II, through the US–Soviet rivalry of the Cold War period, right up to the latest developments in American armored technology. US Battle Tanks 1946–2025 draws and expands on material published in Osprey's New Vanguard and Duel series to explain how the US Army attempted to come to grips with the challenges of the nuclear battlefield, and examines the introduction of new tank designs such as the famous Patton tank series, as well as short-lived attempts to develop more radical tanks such as the T95. It covers the overly ambitious and failed MBT-70 tank program and the more austere M1 Abrams that followed – a tank that proved to be the best US tank design of the post-World War II period and one that is still in service today. Published in association with the AUSA Book Program, offering quality books about US Army heritage, military theory and policy, and security in the modern world.

Book Synopsis Breaking the Mold by : Kendall D. Gott
Download or read book Breaking the Mold written by Kendall D. Gott and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2006 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few lessons are as prevalent in military history as is the adage that tanks don't perform well in cities. The notion of deliberately committing tanks to urban combat is anathema to most. In "Breaking the Mold: Tanks in the Cities," Ken Gott disproves that notion with a timely series of five case studies from World War II to the present war in Iraq. This is not a parochial or triumphant study. These cases demonstrate that tanks must do more than merely "arrive" on the battlefield to be successful in urban combat. From Aachen in 1944 to Fallujah in 2004, the absolute need for specialized training and the use of combined arms at the lowest tactical levels are two of the most salient lessons that emerge from this study. When properly employed, well-trained and well-supported units led by tanks are decisive in urban combat. The reverse also is true. Chechen rebels taught the Russian army and the world a brutal lesson in Grozny about what happens when armored units are poorly led, poorly trained, and cavalierly employed in a city. The case studies in this monograph are high-intensity battles in conflicts ranging from limited interventions to major combat operations. It would be wrong to use them to argue for the use of tanks in every urban situation. As the intensity of the operation decreases, the 2nd and 3rd order effects of using tanks in cities can begin to outweigh their utility. The damage to infrastructure caused by their sheer weight and size is just one example of what can make tanks unsuitable for every mission. Even during peace operations, however, the ability to employ tanks and other heavy armored vehicles can be crucial. "Breaking the Mold" provides an up-to-date analysis of the utility of tanks and heavy armored forces in urban combat. The U.S. Army will increasingly conduct combat operations in urban terrain, and it will be necessary to understand what it takes to employ tanks to achieve success in that battlefield environment.
