Según ciertas estadísticas del curso 2020/21, el 51,4% del alumnado del Estado federado de Hamburgo es de origen inmigrante. La misma estadística muestra que el 29,2% habla diariamente otra lengua distinta al alemán en su casa. En los últimos años, se han desarrollado una serie de conceptos didácticos para cubrir las necesidades propias de este alumnado. Y para la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras han surgido diferentes enfoques plurales que se agrupan bajo la didáctica del multilingüismo. Estos enfoques pretenden sacar el potencial de las competencias multilingües e interculturales que ya de por sí poseen los alumnos y las alumnas para la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras, centrándose en un aprendizaje integrado. Esto es, el aprendizaje de una nueva lengua basado en los conocimientos y las experiencias lingüísticas del alumnado. Es por ello que una de las preguntas que más se plantean con respecto a la integración de los enfoques plurales es la de cómo puede el profesorado incorporar a su enseñanza los conocimientos y las experiencias de otras lenguas y culturas que ellos mismos desconocen. Diferentes estudios muestran que la calidad de la enseñanza depende en gran medida de las motivaciones y de las creencias de los profesores y las profesoras. El objetivo de este estudio se centra, pues, en intentar explorar el uso de las lenguas de herencia como parte de la didáctica multilingüe por parte del profesorado en las clases de lengua extranjera, además de averiguar sus actitudes y creencias respecto a los enfoques plurales.
