Book excerpt: This is a cradle-to-grave biography of Mickey Walker, former welterweight (1922-1926) and middleweight champion (1926-1931) of the world, one of the greatest fighters in ring history. He fought at a time when boxing was a major sport with only eight championships, and he held two of them over a nine-year period. He fought at a time when each weight division was jammed with good fighters, and he fought them all from welterweight up to heavyweight, frequently being outweighed 20 to 30 pounds. Walker was also a great personality who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was married seven times to four different women, and he cavorted with movie stars and mobsters. When his boxing career ended in 1935, Walker ran saloons in various locations and eventually became an artist of some standing. He died in 1981 at age 79.

Barrett Fowler A VINTAGE DOG BOOKS CLASSIC REPRINT "Bulldogs" was originally written by Henry St. John Cooper in 1914. This new edition was revised, updated, and almost completely re-written by F. Barrett Fowler in 1925. Any edition of this book on the Bulldog is now both expensive and hard to find. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS have republished the revised edition, using the original text and photographs, as part of their CLASSIC BREED BOOKS series. The author was a well known and respected breeder who had much success with his show Bulldogs. He was also a prolific contributor to the dog press of that era. The book's two hundred and forty eight pages are divided into fourteencomprehensive chapters Early History of the Bulldog Comparison of the Dogs of Twenty Years Back With Those of Today. Standard Description of the Bulldog. How to Breed Choosing the Best Sort of Brood Bitch. Whelp Protecting, Foster Mothers and Weaning. The Best Class of Kennel. The Bulldog Instinct, Temper and Intelligence. House Dog and Guard Dog. Study of Pedigrees and How to Choose a Stud Dog. Ailments and Best Food. Exhibiting. Rules of the Show Ring and Judging. Early Dog Shows. Buying and Selling. Leading Bulldog Societies. Sending Dogs to Shows and Abroad. Regulations. The English Bulldog. The French Bulldog. Etc. The thirty six page chapter on the French Bulldog will prove of particular interest to some breeders. The book is well illustrated with many text drawings and numerous vintage black and white photographs of famous Bulldogs. This is a fascinating read for any Bulldog enthusiast or historian of the breed, but also contains much information that is still useful and practical today. Many of the earliest dog breed books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

Book excerpt: This beautifully illustrated guide to French Bulldogs is packed with tips and tricks to keep your furry friends happy and healthy. A companion dog par excellence, the French Bulldog now ranks as the most popular breed in the USA and the second most popular in the UK. This immense popularity is hardly a surprise; Frenchies are incredibly loyal and form deep attachments to their owners, they don't need a huge house or exhaustive exercise and are generally happy curled up in your arms. However, there are many things to consider when you bring a French Bulldog into your home: • How often should I walk them? • How much training will they need? • Am I overfeeding them or are the frequent gaseous emissions quite normal? • How do I manage separation anxiety? This playful and informative book, written from the perspective of your dog, covers everything you need to know about this ultimate companion while celebrating their affectionate personalities that demand attention. The puppy months, diet and training are covered along with advice on grooming, maintaining good health and identifying illnesses. Richly illustrated by Meredith Jensen and packed with adorable photographs of beloved pets, dog lovers, owners and enthusiasts will adore this playful celebration of French Bulldogs. Also available in this adorable series on dog breeds are Whippets and Labradors.

Book excerpt: Then you are well served with a French Bulldog. It is considered an absolute battle cuddler, you will definitely not need another cuddly toy. However, this breed has a completely different origin and unfortunately this fact is still very much manifested in the minds of mankind. In addition, the French Bulldog is actually an Englishman. Why? You will find out in this guide. However, you will get a lot more information about this breed besides that. For example, the diet of such a dog is very important. The content of the book is: - The dog breed French Bulldog - Education and socialization - Health and nutrition - The dog care - Character, training and much more - Many illustrations A very big topic is also the health of a French Bulldog. Due to breeding, many hereditary diseases have arisen and also their physique has taken considerable damage. That is why this breed is also classified as a torture breed. You will learn all of this and much more in this very informative guidebook and perhaps you will still choose this otherwise wonderful dog. The French Bulldog: A little cuddly bear - attitude, upbringing, breed lore and much more. Have fun reading.
