Book Synopsis Evangelicals Incorporated by : Daniel Vaca
Download or read book Evangelicals Incorporated written by Daniel Vaca and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new history explores the commercial heart of evangelical Christianity. American evangelicalism is big business. For decades, the world’s largest media conglomerates have sought out evangelical consumers, and evangelical books have regularly become international best sellers. In the early 2000s, Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life spent ninety weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list and sold more than thirty million copies. But why have evangelicals achieved such remarkable commercial success? According to Daniel Vaca, evangelicalism depends upon commercialism. Tracing the once-humble evangelical book industry’s emergence as a lucrative center of the US book trade, Vaca argues that evangelical Christianity became religiously and politically prominent through business activity. Through areas of commerce such as branding, retailing, marketing, and finance, for-profit media companies have capitalized on the expansive potential of evangelicalism for more than a century. Rather than treat evangelicalism as a type of conservative Protestantism that market forces have commodified and corrupted, Vaca argues that evangelicalism is an expressly commercial religion. Although religious traditions seem to incorporate people who embrace distinct theological ideas and beliefs, Vaca shows, members of contemporary consumer society often participate in religious cultures by engaging commercial products and corporations. By examining the history of companies and corporate conglomerates that have produced and distributed best-selling religious books, bibles, and more, Vaca not only illustrates how evangelical ideas, identities, and alliances have developed through commercial activity but also reveals how the production of evangelical identity became a component of modern capitalism.

The book explains the various levels at which discrimination can occur such as demographic profiles, regional differences, religious alliances, college pedigree, marital status, sexual preferences, physical disability and health differentiation, pregnancy or returning mothers and technology competence. The book cites examples of inclusion from progressive organizations such as ABB India, Marico, TCS, PNB Metlife and Alsthom. Presenting the business case of D&I, the book emphasizes on creating a robust D&I strategy with a road map and alignment through internal and external frameworks as well as periodic audits. The Responsible, Accountable, Consultant and Informed (RACI) matrix is discussed while setting up the D&I analytics framework within the organization. The book also presents the growing role of artificial intelligence tools that can empower employees to participate in the D&I journey of an organization. It shares how tools such as Balloonr, Glint, Organization View, Planbox, Pluto and Waggl have been specially designed to allow employees to anonymously provide ideas and respond to ideas provided by others. Going forward, the D&I practices will have to be more customized than generalized, and this book brings up real evidences to make its point
Book Synopsis Leadership for India Inc. by : C.B. Rao
Download or read book Leadership for India Inc. written by C.B. Rao and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership is the engine of growth, in any walk of life. Leadership is often portrayed as the singular capability of an individual at the helm of an organisation. Theories and models of leadership that abound miss the point that true leadership is a highly multi-faceted and highly inclusive endeavour. This book Leadership for India Inc.: An Experiential Treatise is a unique work that is contextually relevant and culturally appropriate. Given that leadership with an Indian perspective is studied and researched less than it ought to be, this book fills a major gap. This book studies leadership from several practical and unique angles, and brings forth insights, models and constructs that are not often the mainstay of published leadership literature. The perspectives that are laid out in the book are fresh and original as well as offbeat and philosophical. The book presents a rich tapestry of the deep and diversified insights borne out of the author’s over four decades of working with leaders and working as a leader, which are discussed in a practical and fulsome manner. The book with its Prologue, forty chapters and Epilogue that cover comprehensively and in depth all aspects of leadership, serves as an experiential treatise for established as well as aspirant leaders for India Inc. It would equally serve as a reference text book for students and academicians as well as professionals and leaders. The book is dedicated, very appropriately, to the greatest leader of all times, Mahatma Gandhi.

Book Synopsis The State and Governance in India by : William F. Kuracina
Download or read book The State and Governance in India written by William F. Kuracina and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-04-05 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an innovative investigation of the policies of the Indian Congress during the late colonial period. Departing from the existing historiography of Indian nationalism, it analyses the extent to which Congress elites engaged in processes intended to foster nation-building in India. Rejecting the long-standing premise that the Congress primarily sought to generate a national identity, the author hypothesizes that Congress elites knowingly grappled with the creation of a national governmentality. He argues that they distanced themselves from lethargic nation-building exercises and instead opted to support more practical and more feasible state-building efforts. Accordingly, this book shows that Congress elites constructed the institutions that would enable Indians to govern themselves after India’s liberation from British imperialism. It presents evidence which shows that Congress elites began to perceive themselves and their organization as an emerging post-colonial state.
