Book Synopsis Touched by Angels of Mercy by : Laura Lagana
Download or read book Touched by Angels of Mercy written by Laura Lagana and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2001-10-30 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Touched by Angels of Mercy contains small doses of genuine life, from nurses, patients and caregivers, that touch the heart and foster healing. This collection of short stories and poems, interspersed with tasteful cartoons, contains helpful resource information, as well as a brief biography of each contributing author. Many of the works in this collection offer a glimpse into the nurse-patient relationship, as seen through the eyes of the patient, nurse or family member. Some of the stories reveal caregiving scenarios taken from brief moments in history, behind prison walls or even on a golf course. Anyone may be labeled an "Angel of Mercy." This term is not exclusive to nurses. Our world needs the healing "angels" who come to us in a variety of forms, when and where we least expect them. At some time in our lives, each one of us will encounter illness, pain and death. Along with it will come the need for a helping hand and the gentle, caring touch of an "angel of mercy." Everyone has the ability to be courageous, tenacious and loving. When people are hurting, whether from illness, injury or other reasons, they have the instinctive need to be touched and nurtured. People also have the need and desire to share their experiences with others. This process of sharing is frequently healthful and therapeutic. The strength, knowledge and inspiration that comes from recounting personal life and death experiences with one another stimulates healing. The profession of nursing deals with the prevention of illness, as well as the care and rehabilitation of the sick. Although it takes a special person to answer this "calling," todays nurses are vastly different from those of yesteryear. The changing world of healthcare has created unique challenges and added pressures for nursing, but it has also created new frontiers. In addition, there is a growing number of caregivers in our society. Caregivers often feel isolated, apprehensive, exhausted and overwhelmed. They desperately need relief as well as ongoing support. Nurses and caregivers reach out and become "angels" for others. They are compassionate, intelligent and caring beings that provide hands-on care to help the sick to heal, or comfort them as they die. Nurses and caregivers are not invincible; they also need to take care of themselves. The need to be touched by another, and to share personal experiences, are universal human requirements. The strength, knowledge and inspiration that comes from recounting personal life and death experiences fosters healing. Wounds heal from the inside out--so does the heart and soul. Writing these stories has been a therapeutic experience for our authors, and for some, an extremely difficult task. It is our hope that by reading and sharing these real-life, personal experiences, you too will be touched, inspired and healed.

Book Synopsis Humean Laws for Human Agents by : Michael Townsen Hicks
Download or read book Humean Laws for Human Agents written by Michael Townsen Hicks and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-05-17 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humean Laws for Human Agents presents cutting-edge research by leading experts on the Humean account of laws, chance, possibility, and necessity. A central question in metaphysics and philosophy of science is: What are laws of nature? Humeans hold that laws are not sui generis metaphysical entities but merely particularly effective summaries of what actually happens. The most discussed recent work on Humeanism emphasizes the laws' usefulness for limited agents and uses pragmatic considerations to address fundamental and long-standing problems. The current volume develops and critically examines pragmatic Humean accounts, with innovative new work on the epistemology of laws and chance, the problem of induction, counterfactuals, special science laws, and a Humean account of essence. Taken together, the papers provide a roadmap for developing pragmatic Humeanism and connate views, setting the agenda for future research.

Book Synopsis Do Angels Smooch by : Professor Edward Kapambwe
Download or read book Do Angels Smooch written by Professor Edward Kapambwe and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do Angels Smooch? Do angels smooch? If not, why so much obsession in lyrics, movies and books about angels and kissing? Are there any more surprises that Edward Kapambwe unveils in his book? Well, there is more. For example, Kapambwe takes us into an in-depth angelic journey in order to understand the extent of angelic involvement in human affairs than ever before. He brings out novel elements that have never been unveiled previously. For example, he recounts how angels visit our stores. They buy the stuff they need before meeting people. Haven’t you noticed that no angel has ever appeared nude or with wings in real life. They come already dressed just like us; and that is why we have been unable to identify them. We are surrounded by angels both good and evil. Evil angels no longer transform themselves into humans. Only good angels still do. Since there are no shops in heaven, where do they get the stuff they wear? Besides that, what happens to these apparels after being used? The author asserts that angels donate them to Thrift Stores such as, Goodwill, the Salvation Army and others. Donating to Thrift Stores is an ingenious way to make them accessible to both the rich and the poor. Have you wondered why they do that? It is a deliberate move they take so that ordinary people could buy things worn by angels. That begs another question, why do they do that? The answer is amazing. They do that on purpose because they know that to wear stuff worn by holy angels comes with tremendous blessings. This book explains that point persuasively. In addition, the author contends that these angels are highly disciplined entities such that they never steal anything from banks, stores or homes of rich people even though they able to do so without being seen. Angels are invisible (spirits) entities. However, they have the ability to transform themselves into regular human beings. The author throws in another insight. He argues and states that helping strangers gives a person the best chance to be visited by an angel. The author then explains to us the probabilities of being smooched by an angel. Do angels smooch? That question points us in the direction of social theology than philosophy. It is not a new question but the framing might be. Many theologians have debated extensively the narrative found in Genesis 6 where angels came on earth and married daughters of men. With his masterful insight and knowledge of theology and philosophy, the author gives a different angle of the workings of angels among us. It’s not a book to miss. If there is one book you need to read in your lifetime, Do Angels Smooch should be on top of your list.
Book Synopsis Divine Programming by : Charlotte E. Howell
Download or read book Divine Programming written by Charlotte E. Howell and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020-04 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the mid-90s to the present, television drama with religious content has come to reflect the growing cultural divide between white middle-America and concentrated urban elites. As author Charlotte E. Howell argues in this book, by 2016, television narratives of white Christianity had become entirely disconnected from the religion they were meant to represent. Programming labeled 'family-friendly' became a euphemism for white, middlebrow America, and developing audience niches became increasingly significant to serial dramatic television. Utilizing original case studies and interviews, Divine Programming investigates the development, writing, producing, marketing, and positioning of key series including 7th Heaven, Friday Night Lights, Rectify, Supernatural, Jane the Virgin, Daredevil, and Preacher. As this book shows, there has historically been a deep ambivalence among television production cultures regarding religion and Christianity more specifically. It illustrates how middle-American television audiences lost significance within the Hollywood television industry and how this in turn has informed and continues to inform television programming on a larger scale. In recent years, upscale audience niches have aligned with the perceived tastes of affluent, educated, multicultural, and-importantly-secular elites. As a result, the televised representation of white Christianity had to be othered, and shifted into the unreality of fantastic genres to appeal to niche audiences. To examine this effect, Howell looks at religious representation through four approaches - establishment, distancing, displacement, and use - and looks at series across a variety of genres and outlets in order to provied varied analyses of each theme.
