Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first systematic treatment of the theory of topological dynamics of random dynamical systems. A relatively new field, the theory of random dynamical systems unites and develops the classical deterministic theory of dynamical systems and probability theory, finding numerous applications in disciplines ranging from physics and biology to engineering, finance and economics. This book presents in detail the solutions to the most fundamental problems of topological dynamics: linearization of nonlinear smooth systems, classification, and structural stability of linear hyperbolic systems. Employing the tools and methods of algebraic ergodic theory, the theory presented in the book has surprisingly beautiful results showing the richness of random dynamical systems as well as giving a gentle generalization of the classical deterministic theory.

Book excerpt: In this paper the authors extend the notion of a continuous bundle random dynamical system to the setting where the action of R or N is replaced by the action of an infinite countable discrete amenable group. Given such a system, and a monotone sub-additive invariant family of random continuous functions, they introduce the concept of local fiber topological pressure and establish an associated variational principle, relating it to measure-theoretic entropy. They also discuss some variants of this variational principle. The authors introduce both topological and measure-theoretic entropy tuples for continuous bundle random dynamical systems, and apply variational principles to obtain a relationship between these of entropy tuples. Finally, they give applications of these results to general topological dynamical systems, recovering and extending many recent results in local entropy theory.

Book excerpt: Recent work in dynamical systems theory has both highlighted certain topics in the pre-existing subject of topological dynamics (such as the construction of Lyapunov functions and various notions of stability) and also generated new concepts and results. This book collects these results, both old and new, and organises them into a natural foundation for all aspects of dynamical systems theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph aims to provide an advanced account of some aspects of dynamical systems in the framework of general topology, and is intended for use by interested graduate students and working mathematicians. Although some of the topics discussed are relatively new, others are not: this book is not a collection of research papers, but a textbook to present recent developments of the theory that could be the foundations for future developments. This book contains a new theory developed by the authors to deal with problems occurring in diffentiable dynamics that are within the scope of general topology. To follow it, the book provides an adequate foundation for topological theory of dynamical systems, and contains tools which are sufficiently powerful throughout the book. Graduate students (and some undergraduates) with sufficient knowledge of basic general topology, basic topological dynamics, and basic algebraic topology will find little difficulty in reading this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DYNAMICS REPORTED reports on recent developments in dynamical systems. Dynamical systems of course originated from ordinary differential equations. Today, dynamical systems cover a much larger area, including dynamical processes described by functional and integral equations, by partial and stochastic differential equations, etc. Dynamical systems have involved remarkably in recent years. A wealth of new phenomena, new ideas and new techniques are proving to be of considerable interest to scientists in rather different fields. It is not surprising that thousands of publications on the theory itself and on its various applications are appearing DYNAMICS REPORTED presents carefully written articles on major subjects in dy namical systems and their applications, addressed not only to specialists but also to a broader range of readers including graduate students. Topics are advanced, while detailed exposition of ideas, restriction to typical results - rather than the most general one- and, last but not least, lucid proofs help to gain the utmost degree of clarity. It is hoped, that DYNAMICS REPORTED will be useful for those entering the field and will stimulate an exchange of ideas among those working in dynamical systems Summer 1991 Christopher K. R. Book excerpt: This treatment provides an exposition of discrete time dynamic processes evolving over an infinite horizon. Chapter 1 reviews some mathematical results from the theory of deterministic dynamical systems, with particular emphasis on applications to economics. The theory of irreducible Markov processes, especially Markov chains, is surveyed in Chapter 2. Equilibrium and long run stability of a dynamical system in which the law of motion is subject to random perturbations is the central theme of Chapters 3-5. A unified account of relatively recent results, exploiting splitting and contractions, that have found applications in many contexts is presented in detail. Chapter 6 explains how a random dynamical system may emerge from a class of dynamic programming problems. with examples and exercises, readers are guided from basic theory to the frontier of applied mathematical research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies ergodic-theoretic aspects of random dynam- ical systems, i.e. of deterministic systems with noise. It aims to present a systematic treatment of a series of recent results concerning invariant measures, entropy and Lyapunov exponents of such systems, and can be viewed as an update of Kifer's book. An entropy formula of Pesin's type occupies the central part. The introduction of relation numbers (ch.2) is original and most methods involved in the book are canonical in dynamical systems or measure theory. The book is intended for people interested in noise-perturbed dynam- ical systems, and can pave the way to further study of the subject. Reasonable knowledge of differential geometry, measure theory, ergodic theory, dynamical systems and preferably random processes is assumed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of nonautonomous dynamical systems in both of its formulations as processes and skew product flows is developed systematically in this book. The focus is on dissipative systems and nonautonomous attractors, in particular the recently introduced concept of pullback attractors. Linearization theory, invariant manifolds, Lyapunov functions, Morse decompositions and bifurcations for nonautonomous systems and set-valued generalizations are also considered as well as applications to numerical approximations, switching systems and synchronization. Parallels with corresponding theories of control and random dynamical systems are briefly sketched. With its clear and systematic exposition, many examples and exercises, as well as its interesting applications, this book can serve as a text at the beginning graduate level. It is also useful for those who wish to begin their own independent research in this rapidly developing area.

Book excerpt: The authors study the Lyapunov exponents and their associated invariant subspaces for infinite dimensional random dynamical systems in a Banach space, which are generated by, for example, stochastic or random partial differential equations. The authors prove a multiplicative ergodic theorem and then use this theorem to establish the stable and unstable manifold theorem for nonuniformly hyperbolic random invariant sets.

Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present a recently developed approach suitable for investigating a variety of qualitative aspects of order-preserving random dynamical systems and to give the background for further development of the theory. The main objects considered are equilibria and attractors. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated by analysing the long-time behaviour of some classes of random and stochastic ordinary differential equations which arise in many applications.

Book excerpt: This second half of Volume 1 of this Handbook follows Volume 1A, which was published in 2002. The contents of these two tightly integrated parts taken together come close to a realization of the program formulated in the introductory survey “Principal Structures of Volume 1A.The present volume contains surveys on subjects in four areas of dynamical systems: Hyperbolic dynamics, parabolic dynamics, ergodic theory and infinite-dimensional dynamical systems (partial differential equations). . Written by experts in the field.. The coverage of ergodic theory in these two parts of Volume 1 is considerably more broad and thorough than that provided in other existing sources. . The final cluster of chapters discusses partial differential equations from the point of view of dynamical systems.

This meeting brought together mathematicians, theoretical physicists, theoretical computer scientists, and graduate students interested in fields related to probability theory, ergodic theory, symbolic and topological dynamics. The courses were on: -Some Aspects of Random Fragmentations in Continuous Times; -Metastability of Ageing in Stochastic Dynamics; -Algebraic Systems of Generating Functions and Return Probabilities for Random Walks; -Recurrent Measures and Measure Rigidity; -Stochastic Particle Approximations for Two-Dimensional Navier Stokes Equations; and -Random and Universal Metric Spaces. The intended audience for this book is Ph.D. students on Probability and Ergodic Theory as well as researchers in these areas. The particular interest of this book is the broad areas of problems that it covers. We have chosen six main topics and asked six experts to give an introductory course on the subject touching the latest advances on each problem.
