Book excerpt: A bestselling love story of two teenagers - and one missing dog - on the run in Jerusalem by the highly esteemed author of The Zigzag Kid 'Brings together the differing aspects of his writing in a book that unites social realism and dizzy teenage romance ... This is a book about feelings, about highs and lows, chemical, emotional, religious' Daily Telegraph Earnest, awkward and painfully shy, sixteen-year-old Assaf is having the worst summer of his life. With his big sister gone and his best friend suddenly the most popular kid in their class, Assaf spends his days at a lowly summer job in Jerusalem City Hall and his evenings alone, watching television and playing games on the Internet. One morning, Assaf's routine is interrupted by an absurd assignment: to find the owner of a stray yellow labrador. Meanwhile on the other side of the city, Tamar, a talented singer with a lonely, tempestuous soul, undertakes an equally unpromising mission: to rescue a young drug addict from the Jerusalem underworld ... and, eventually, to find her dog.
Book Synopsis Money Run it. Not Run After it. by : Yong Kiang Tan
Download or read book Money Run it. Not Run After it. written by Yong Kiang Tan and published by Yong Kiang Tan. This book was released on 2010-03-14 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many books talking about money. How to get rich, financial planning, finance management, investments, insurance, tax planning, stocks trading, technical analysis, bonds, asset management and the list goes on. This is not such a book and it is not a “Get Rich Quick” formula book. I really hope there is such a formula but truthfully, I do not believe there is such a thing. Yes, it is possible to get rich but it is neither simple nor quick and there is definitely no sure fire formula to it. On the other hand though, there is certainly an easy way to “Become Poor Quick”. This is where this book comes to rescue, it aims to provide an understanding of the key concepts behind money management, impart the basic principles of managing money and provide some simple tools and exercise to prevent people from squandering off their money. Much like the “Seven Habits of Successful People”, once the basic principles are mastered or have become habits, you will be able to deal with anything involving money without getting into an undesirable situation. A lot of people will say what’s so hard about this but contrary to popular belief, the basic principles are sometimes the hardest ones to grasp and master. Often, people zoom into the details, dream about how to get rich quickly and forget the basic principles getting themselves burnt in the process. Education as they say it is the key out of poverty. However, even though many of us go through the normal education process, some all the way up to university, I realise that we are never formally educated in managing our money. Many, if not all of us, learn about managing money the hard way, through experience or what some may call the school of hard knocks. Although nothing beats learning through experience, it is human’s ability to build on the experience of our predecessors that have allowed us to progress. There are many books talking about money but I realise that most focus on the greed of human and try to make a quick buck out of telling people how to get rich quick. I could not find any book out there that imparts people with the most basic skills of money management. What I call the primary and foundation skills that everyone ought to possess regardless of their education level. These are the skills which I wish I have been taught when I was younger rather than to learn them through the hard way. So this is the main reason why I wrote this book, I hope that it will help to guide others along on money management so that they may avoid the pitfalls that so many of those who went before (including myself) have made.
Download or read book Unprotected written by Miriam Grossman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2007-08-28 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our campuses are steeped in political correctness—that's hardly news to anyone. But no one realizes that radical social agendas have also taken over campus health and counseling centers, with dire consequences. Psychiatrist Miriam Grossman knows this better than anyone. She has treated more than 2,000 students at one of America's most prestigious universities, and she's seen how the anything- goes, women-are-just-like-men, "safer-sex" agenda is actually making our sons and daughters sick. Dr. Grossman takes issue with the experts who suggest that students problems can be solved with free condoms and Zoloft. What campus counselors and health providers must do, she argues, is tell uncomfortable, politically incorrect truths, especially to young patients in their most vulnerable and confused moments. Instead of platitudes and misinformation, it's time to offer them real protection.

Book Synopsis Run, It Might Be Somebody by : Ephraim Romesberg
Download or read book Run, It Might Be Somebody written by Ephraim Romesberg and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005-10-24 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book Summary of Run It Might Be Somebody By Ephraim Romesberg The book covers a span of over 70 years starting with the author as a shy sickly boy who was the last of 11 children living on a farm during the great depression and ends with the author as a 74 year old man, who still runs ultra distant marathons. In the first chapter, the author presents stories and anecdotes, often in a humorous way, to describe some of the joys and hardships of growing up in a large family during the great depression. Compared to today, life was very different then with no TVs, very few radios, no computers, no running water in the home (except in the pantry where there was a hand pump), and very few toys or luxuries of any kind. Also, and perhaps more significantly, kids, for the most part, were given chores and did not have time to get into trouble. There were no drugs, no gangs, and no boredom. Being the youngest in the family and somewhat sickly, the author was to some extent given some slack on farm chores. Even so, he had daily chores to do starting from a very early age such as milking cows, driving the old model T truck, fetching the cows, cleaning stables, feeding livestock, driving a tractor, and helping wherever help was needed. The book describes the one room school house that all kids in the area attended at that time. The authors dad had to quit such a school while in third grade to work on the farm when his father died leaving the family without any money or food. His mother completed school through eighth grade which was all that most people considered necessary in those days especially for women. So there was little or no pressure from the parents to go to school after that. As a result, the three oldest boys in the family never went past eighth grade. There were other reasons to stay home and the most important one was they had no decent clothing. The book tells about the Authors mother removing the white stripes from an old pair of band pants and one of the three boys who never completed high school, then removing all the little white threads so that he could wear the pants to school. He also had no decent shoes so he added home made soles to the bottoms of a pair of his work shoes by attaching them with roofing nails so that he could make the long four mile walk to the school. After several trips the nails poked through the bottoms of the shoes and wore holes in his feet. Because of that and the lure of the upcoming hunting season, and the need to work on the farm, he quit school after only a month or so. Except for the three oldest boys, all of the kids completed high school and several went on to college. The book describes such things as making hay the old fashioned way, husking corn by hand, hoeing corn and then picking rocks while resting, butchering a pig, delivering baby pigs and calves, threshing to separate the grain from the straw, and the authors Mom squirting milk straight from the cows tit at cats and grandkids.. Also described are how the young boys in the family learned to handle a team of horses when they were only 10 years old, how one of the boys accidentally cut off his little sisters finger, how an uncle lost his leg to the stump puller, how the author, when he was only eight years old, tried to explain to a blind preacher how to use the out house and the Sears Roebuck catalog which was used instead of toilet paper. Also described, and a little more on the lighter side, one of the authors sisters claimed that you havent lived until you ran barefoot through a cow pasture and felt the warmth of a fresh cow patty ooze up between your toes. The early chapters also describe the authors time in the US Navy where he was sea sick every time the ship left the dock. Hunting stories tell of deer hunting with more failures than successes.
