Book Synopsis Tough-to-Treat Anxiety: Hidden Problems & Effective Solutions for Your Clients by : Margaret Wehrenberg
Download or read book Tough-to-Treat Anxiety: Hidden Problems & Effective Solutions for Your Clients written by Margaret Wehrenberg and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2017-08-22 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to recognize common obstacles to anxiety treatment and overcome complicating factors. Most people with mental health challenges of any kind are burdened by anxiety. In many cases, their anxiety symptoms are what prompt them to seek therapy in the first place. Unfortunately, these people also often have difficulty using standard anxiety treatment protocols, and problems heap upon themselves. When anxiety is tough to treat, dual conditions may be blocking treatment. This clinical casebook identifies symptoms that may indicate these obstacles, helping mental health professionals recognize conditions that coexist with anxiety—such as autism spectrum disorder, addiction, OCD, and depression. Margaret Wehrenberg breaks down this information into three parts: generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Each section describes a typical symptom pattern for each, how other disorders may complicate treatment, and examples of successful interventions. The book is organized by profiles of common conditions matched with an anxiety type, including "The Illogical Worrier" (generalized anxiety and OCD) and "The Meltdown Panicker" (panic disorder and autism spectrum disorder). Drawing from a career's worth of experience as a therapist supported by scholarly research, Tough-to-Treat Anxiety provides treatment methods for anxiety that resists remission. By highlighting commonly experience difficulties, this book jump starts the therapeutic journey to relief.

Book Synopsis A Life Hidden from View by : I Walsh
Download or read book A Life Hidden from View written by I Walsh and published by Grosvenor House Publishing. This book was released on 2022-11-24 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Life Hidden from View is a candid look at my life through my eyes. I had a somewhat unconventional childhood, living a very secluded, mostly in solitude, life. Going to school wasn't without its dramas. Once the other children found out I was illegitimate, the bullying started. At senior school, circumstances led to me being sexually abused. When I left school, life improved for a while. I grew up into a very independent young woman. Supporting myself and doing really well at work. I do have a somewhat quirky outlook on life and my sense of humour reflects this, as you will see sprinkled throughout the pages. My feelings of isolation, not loneliness, has not stopped me doing what I want to do. I have travelled alone to various holiday destinations and enjoyed them all. I have enjoyed pastimes of dancing and being around horses for most of my adult life. I am currently researching to find my dad. Although I say I am mostly alone, I'm not really. I do tend to attract the supernatural and have seen, and been in the presence of, what some people may call ghosts. I don't quite view them like that. In my later years at work I was bullied, to the extent that I took early retirement to get away from it. Being bullied, abused and neglected for most of my life has resulted in me having long-lasting health issues. I want my book to be a help guide to any of my readers who may find themselves in similar situations. It is important that you tell someone, get the help you need and deal with it, so you can move on with your life. I hope my book helps.

Book Synopsis Informal Caregivers: From Hidden Heroes to Integral Part of Care by : Andreas Charalambous
Download or read book Informal Caregivers: From Hidden Heroes to Integral Part of Care written by Andreas Charalambous and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-05 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book builds on the current trends in informal caregivers’ role in the supportive care of cancer patients (as well as other diseases) across the care continuum covering topics from the healthcare professionals and the users’ perspectives. Informal caregivers are a critical resource to their care recipients and an essential component of the health care system. The book introduces a comprehensive view of the topic and acknowledges the importance and the complexity of caregiving. Here lays one of the uniqueness of this book, which highlights the areas and the ways that for example interventions in specific settings/groups of patients can actually facilitate the caregiving process. The increasing number of care-dependent people, the adoption of the principle “outpatient before inpatient”, the shift of care from inpatient to outpatient and the preference for home care (i.e. majority) are only some of the reasons that contributed to Informal caregiving becoming a central feature of the health care landscape and will become even more prominent in the decades ahead. The book draws on the experts’ high-end, current systematic research evidence and real-life examples on these topics to provide an insightful perspective on undertaking research within this context, and to demonstrate informal caregivers’ impact on patients’ outcomes. The structure of the book provides multiple perspectives to the topic and makes it appealing to a wide range of recipients including the nursing community, clinicians, social workers, researchers, policy makers, technology experts as well as postgraduate students especially to those practicing specifically in supportive care in cancer. The book fills a gap in this field of expertise not only by familiarizing the reader with a wide range of topics to be considered but it also emphasizes on what the developments in the field in the future would need to take into consideration. Finally, current and future studies can be informed from the practices of preceding studies that are incorporated in the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A toolkit of proven strategies and practices for building capacity and creating transformation Recent years have seen a proliferation of information on how to make change—in business, in social and environmental movements, and on a more personal scale. But, even with all this attention, two out of three change efforts fail to achieve their desired result. How can you make your own effort buck this trend? In Parachuting Cats into Borneo, change-management experts Axel Klimek and Alan AtKisson offer crisp, concise, and targeted advice for success. They expose the most significant impediments—helping readers recognize their habitual patterns of thinking and perceiving a situation, critique their own beliefs regarding change, and then move beyond these unhelpful patterns using improved systems thinking. Named after a classic tale of unintended consequences, Parachuting Cats into Borneo delivers tools that help leaders and others keep their change initiatives on track. The advice imparted will help you move away from agonizing over immediate problems toward stoking action, identifying collaborators, focusing at the right level for your cause, and aiding others in pursuing their change. Klimek and AtKisson draw from their decades of helping corporations, networks, governments, and NGOs reach their change goals to demonstrate how to use system-based change tools to their maximum advantage. A closing section is devoted to change making in the realm of sustainability, where complexity abounds but the right tools, used well, can help us tackle some of the most significant challenges of our time.

Book Synopsis Long-Term Solutions for a Short-Term World by : Ronald N. Harpelle
Download or read book Long-Term Solutions for a Short-Term World written by Ronald N. Harpelle and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2011-06-14 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long-Term Solutions for a Short-Term World demonstrates the complexity of the challenges that poor countries face and introduces the readers to the concept and impact of participatory research for development. Participatory research requires researchers to work with communities, governments, and other relevant actors to deal with common problems. Finding solutions requires participants to reflect critically on the cultural, economic, historical, political, and social contexts within which the issue under investigation exists. The book contains a collection of essays from development researchers and professionals, each of whom is an activist who has made significant contributions to the struggles of the poor in their own societies. Essays are presented as case studies and, in each, the contributor explains the specific development problem, the paths followed to solve the problem, lessons learned as a result of the research, and the development challenges on the horizon in his field of research. Together, these essays present a fascinating picture of how some of today’s most pressing development issues are being dealt with through research, demonstrating how interdisciplinary and alternative approaches can be implemented in new and innovative ways.
Book Synopsis The SAGE Encyclopedia of Contemporary Early Childhood Education by : Donna Couchenour
Download or read book The SAGE Encyclopedia of Contemporary Early Childhood Education written by Donna Couchenour and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 3481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general public often views early childhood education as either simply “babysitting” or as preparation for later learning. Of course, both viewpoints are simplistic. Deep understanding of child development, best educational practices based on development, emergent curriculum, cultural competence and applications of family systems are necessary for high-quality early education. Highly effective early childhood education is rare in that it requires collaboration and transitions among a variety of systems for children from birth through eight years of age. The SAGE Encyclopedia of Contemporary Early Childhood Education presents in three comprehensive volumes advanced research, accurate practical applications of research, historical foundations and key facts from the field of contemporary early childhood education. Through approximately 425 entries, this work includes all areas of child development – physical, cognitive, language, social, emotional, aesthetic – as well as comprehensive review of best educational practices with young children, effective preparation for early childhood professionals and policy making practices, and addresses such questions as: · How is the field of early childhood education defined? · What are the roots of this field of study? · How is the history of early childhood education similar to yet different from the study of public education? · What are the major influences on understandings of best practices in early childhood education?
