Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As marketing specialists know all too well, our experience of products is prefigured by brands: trademarks that identify a product and differentiate it from its competitors. This process of branding has hitherto gained little academic discussion in the field of literary studies. Literary authors and the texts they produce, though, are constantly 'branded': from the early modern period onwards, they have been both the object and the initiator of a complex marketing process. This book analyzes this branding process throughout the centuries, focusing on the case of the Netherlands. To what extent is our experience of Dutch literature prefigured by brands, and what role does branding play when introducing European authors in the Dutch literary field (or vice versa)? By answering these questions, the volume seeks to show how literary scholars can account for the phenomenon of branding.

Welcome to 'The Art of Amore,' a captivating journey into a realm where artistry and emotion intertwine, and where the past and present dance gracefully together. At the center of our tale is Camden Moreau, a gifted yet reclusive art restorer. Within the walls of his secluded studio, he devotes himself to the art of resurrection, breathing life into canvases forgotten by time. Haunted by personal tragedies that led him to withdraw from the world, Camden finds solace in the quiet communion with the artworks he tenderly restores. But fate has different plans for Camden. A wealthy collector commissions him with a task that will alter the course of his life forever, to restore the elusive masterpiece 'Amore's Embrace.' A painting shrouded in mystery and rumored to possess an inexplicable allure, it beckons seekers with its enigmatic beauty, only to keep its secrets veiled. As Camden delves into the realm of the unknown, he finds an unexpected ally in Dr. Natalia Herrera, a passionate art historian. Driven by her unyielding curiosity and a profound love for the untold stories behind forgotten art, Natalia's path intertwines with Camden's, leading them both toward the heart of 'Amore's Embrace.' Together, they embark on an extraordinary journey to uncover the lost narrative of the masterpiece and, in the process, discover the concealed desires of their own hearts. As the layers of history unfold, so do the emotions buried within Camden and Natalia. Their shared love for art blossoms into an irresistible attraction, sparking a connection that defies the boundaries of time. But they soon find themselves ensnared in a web of rivalry and danger, as a jealous adversary seeks to sabotage their quest and destroy the newfound love blooming between them. Throughout their endeavor to unveil the secrets of 'Amore's Embrace,' they realize that the painting is no ordinary artwork. It holds a mystical power, drawing them into a timeless love story that echoes through the ages, mirroring their own feelings and experiences. In the revelation of the painting's true significance lies not only a testament to art's enduring allure but also a profound testimony to the resilience of human hearts in the face of life's trials. Book excerpt: Taking early 21st century Britain as a case study, Rethinking Holocaust Film Reception: A British Case Study presents an intervention into the scholarship on the representation of the Holocaust on film. Based on a study of audience responses to select films, Stefanie Rauch demonstrates that the reception of films about the Holocaust is a complex process that we cannot understand through textual analysis alone, but by also paying attention to individual reception processes. This book restores the agency of viewers and takes seriously their diverse responses to representations of the Holocaust. It demonstrates that viewers’ interpretative resources play an important role in film reception. Viewers regard Holocaust films as a separate genre that they encounter with a set of expectations. The author highlights the implications of Britain’s lessons-focused approach to Holocaust education and commemoration and addresses debates around the supposed globalization of Holocaust memory by unpacking the peculiar Britishness of viewers’ responses to films about the Holocaust. A sense of emotional connection or its absence to the Holocaust and its memory speaks to divisions along ethnic, generational, and national lines.

Book excerpt: An Examination of Beauty in the Christian Life from Philip Ryken The world is full of beautiful things—the vibrancy of trees in fall, the joy of sitting around a table with family—but in our fallen world, many beautiful things have been turned into ugly distortions. How should Christians think about beauty in a world that is often ugly? In Beauty Is Your Destiny, Philip Ryken provides readers with an introduction to the theology and practice of beauty, striving to awaken a longing for beauty that he explains "can only be satisfied in the face of Jesus Christ." Adapted from chapel messages given at Wheaton College, Ryken considers key topics on Christian thought—including the Trinity, the incarnation, sexuality, and racial diversity—through the lens of beauty, showing how beauty illuminates each of these biblical principles in our world today. Introduction to the Theology of Beauty: Great for college students, pastors, and small groups Biblically Based: Examines how beauty is seen in Christian doctrines such as eternity, the church, and the crucifixion Written by Philip Ryken: President of Wheaton College and author of Grace Transforming; Is Jesus the Only Way?; and Loving the Way Jesus Loves

This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1877, Ruskin accused Whistler of ’flinging a pot of paint in the public’s face’. Was he right? After all, Whistler always denied that the true function of art was to represent anything. If a painting does not represent, what is it, other than mere paint, flung in the public’s face? Whistler’s answer was simple: painting is music - or it is poetry. Georges Braque, half a century later, echoed Whistler’s answer. So did Braque’s friends Apollinaire and Ponge. They presented their poetry as music too - and as painting. But meanwhile, composers such as Satie and Stravinsky were presenting their own art - music - as if it transposed the values of painting or of poetry. The fundamental principle of this intermedial aesthetic, which bound together an extraordinary fraternity of artists in all media in Paris, from 1885 to 1945, was this: we must always think about the value of a work of art, not within the logic of its own medium, but as if it transposed the value of art in another medium. Peter Dayan traces the history of this principle: how it created our very notion of ’great art’, why it declined as a vision from the 1960s and how, in the 21st century, it is fighting back.
