Book excerpt: On a freezing night in 1778, General George Washington vanishes. Walking away from the Valley Forge encampment, he takes a fall and is knocked unconscious, only to reappear at a dog park on San Francisco Bay-in the summer of 2014. Washington befriends two Berkeley twenty-somethings who help him cope with the astonishing-and often comical-surprises of the twenty-first century. Washington's absence from Valley Forge, however, is not without serious consequences. As the world rapidly devolves around them-and their beloved Giants fight to salvage a disappointing season-George, Tim, and Matt are catapulted on a race across America to find a way to get George back to 1778. Equal parts time travel tale, thriller, and baseball saga, Finding George Washington is a gripping, humorous, and entertaining look at what happens when past and present collide in the 9th inning, with the bases loaded and no one warming up in the bullpen.

Book excerpt: The interweaving stories in Recurrence Plot and Other Time Travel Tales present characters whose experiences challenge the notion that time flows in only one direction. If you want to understand what is happening at any given point in time, you cannot only look to the past for clues. You must consider the future. A journalist races against time itself to expose the entity preying on young male teens in Philadelphia. A crystal, memory-storing bracelet transports a young mother back to the day of her own mother's traumatic death. An unknown force of nature causes time to start flowing backwards. . . Using quantum physics as an imaginative landscape, Phillips' debut speculative collection Recurrence Plot attempts to walk the fine line between fiction and reality, fate and free will, and past, present, and future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LEAP INTO THE FUTURE, AND SHOOT BACK TO THE PAST H. G. Wells’s seminal short story “The Time Machine,” published in 1895, provided the springboard for modern science fiction’s time travel explosion. Responding to their own fascination with the subject, the greatest visionary writers of the twentieth century penned some of their finest stories. Here are eighteen of the most exciting tales ever told, including “Time’s Arrow” In Arthur C. Clarke’s classic, two brilliant physicists finally crack the mystery of time travel—with appalling consequences. “Death Ship” Richard Matheson, author of Somewhere in Time, unveils a chilling scenario concerning three astronauts who stumble upon the conundrum of past and future. “Yesterday was Monday” If all the world’s a stage, Theodore Sturgeon’s compelling tale follows the odyssey of an ordinary joe who winds up backstage. “Rainbird” R.A. Lafferty reflects on what might have been in this brainteaser about an inventor so brilliant that he invents himself right out of existence. “Timetipping” What if everyone time-traveled except you? Jack Dann provides some surprising answers in this literary gem. . . . as well as stories by Poul Anderson • L. Sprague de Camp • Joe Haldeman • John Kessel • Nancy Kress • Henry Kuttner • Ursula K. Le Guin • Larry Niven • Charles Sheffield • Robert Silverberg • Connie Willis By turns frightening, puzzling, and fantastic, these stories engage us in situations that may one day break free of the bonds of fantasy . . . to enter the realm of the future: our future. Note: "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury and "I'm Scared" by Jack Finney are not included in this edition.

Book excerpt: Time Travel Escapades! Time travel is a fascinating subject to all people today and also was even in the 19th century. H.G. wells is a great classic science fiction author. He believed in what many people could not fathom at the time. In the 19th century, time travel as told by Wells sounded like a very far-fetched story. In the book, the narrator of the time travel narrates how he has managed to travel back and forth through time. He paints a picture of his escapades while traveling through time. How at one point he traveled to 83rd century A.D. In that century all people in the world were vegans since chicken and some edible animals were extinct. The narrator continues narrating how a certain young lady flirted with him and even gave him white flowers as a token. He explains how during this century simple-minded small people lived in palaces. Also during the century, he learned that humanity was divided into two different species: the light dwellers, living on the surface, and night-based, who lived in darkness on the underground. In the Time Machine, the journey is way beyond the prosaic limits of imagination. Accounts are given by the narrator of interacting and trying to learn the ways of strange human species sounded surreal at the time. The author gives the following in details: The encounter. The Eloi and Morhani. The time machine is built The time machine has disappeared. A time machine is found. Home at last! The unbelievable time travel tale. Time traveler rescue Weena from drowning. Author ́s Biography Herbert George Wells was an English author. He was born in Bromley, High street, London, the UK on 21st September, 1866. He was fecund in many genres. He first published The Time Machine on 7th May 1895. He wrote a dozen novels and short stories. He passed on, on 13th August 1946.

Book excerpt: Time-travel continues to exercise its mesmeric fascination upon writers, readers and editors of science fiction alike. This is probably because almost all of us, at one time or another, have longed greatly to visit either the future or the past. Perhaps, in view of the dangerous paradoxes such travel must involve, it is a good thing that such horological journeys have to date been confined to the printed page. This book consists of a collection of four short science fiction stories about time travel. The stories are (1) Wanderer of Infinity (In the uncharted realms of infra-dimensional space Bert meets a pathetic figure-The Wanderer.), (2) Time and Time Again (To upset the stable, mighty stream of time would probably take an enormous concentration of energy. And it's not to be expected that a man would get a second chance at life. But an atomic might accomplish both), (3) The Day Time Stopped Moving (All Dave Miller wanted to do was commit suicide in peace. He tried, but the things that happened after he'd pulled the trigger were all wrong. Like everyone standing around like statues. No St. Peter, no pearly gate, no pitchforks or halos. He might just as well have saved the bullet!), and (4) The Time Machine (the most popular and bestselling time travel story). This book is the seventh one in a series of seven books on this topic. It is a pleasure to publish this new, high quality, and affordable edition of these timeless stories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are various arguments for the metaphysical impossibility of time travel. Is it impossible because objects could then be in two places at once? Or is it impossible because some objects could bring about their own existence? In this book, Nikk Effingham contends that no such argument is sound and that time travel is metaphysically possible. His main focus is on the Grandfather Paradox: the position that time travel is impossible because someone could not go back in time and kill their own grandfather before he met their grandmother. In such a case, Effingham argues that the time traveller would have the ability to do the impossible (so they could kill their grandfather) even though those impossibilities will never come about (so they won't kill their grandfather). He then explores the ramifications of this view, discussing issues in probability and decision theory. The book ends by laying out the dangers of time travel and why, even though no time machines currently exist, we should pay extra special care ensuring that nothing, no matter how small or microscopic, ever travels in time.
