Download or read book Through a Woman's Eye written by Marian Perdue Furman and published by NewSouth Books. This book was released on 2015-05-08 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a Woman's Eye presents an evocative collection of a hundred black and white photographs made by Edith Morgan of Camden, a small town in Wilcox County, Alabama, just after the turn of the twentieth century. Morgan was educated locally before attending the School of the Chicago Art Institute. Subsequently she returned to Camden where she spent the remainder of her life teaching art. She also taught illiterate blacks and whites to read. Thirty years ago, Marian Furman, also of Camden and herself a professional photographer, discovered an album made by Morgan of photographs of her friends, students, and local African Americans. The latter, although somewhat stereotypical of photographs of blacks at the time, are sympathetic; they reveal the humanity of Morgan's subjects. This volume collects Morgan's photographs, along with essays that put them in the context of time and place. Professor Hardy Jackson's essay presents a personal memory. Furman describes socioeconomic and political conditions in Wilcox County and offers biographical information on the Morgan family. Dr. Matthew Mason of Yale's Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library presents additional biographical information and offers a critical assessment of Morgan's photographs, comparing her work to that of contemporary photographers, especially her female peers.

Book Synopsis The Female Vision by : Sally Helgesen
Download or read book The Female Vision written by Sally Helgesen and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2010-06-14 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Female Vision shows why: • What women see matters to organizations • What women notice is what organizations need now • What women value Will Define Organizational Excellence in The Future Women often see the world from a different angle than men. But this fact has been overlooked in most organizations. In this brilliant and strongly argued new book, Sally Helgesen and Julie Johnson demonstrate why “the female vision”—what women notice, what they value, how they connect the dots—constitutes women's most powerful asset in the workplace. Drawing on multiple strands of research, including their own Satisfaction Profile Assessment, they show what companies must do to engage, energize, and support talented women. And they show women how to nurture and sustain their own greatest gifts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Specifically, the work of ten twentieth-century American women is presented. When discussing both art and sex, it is much easier to remain within the cultural confines of one country. Ten is an arbitrary numer; it could just as easily have been a book of twenty or fifteen or eleven. Those included are Gertrude Käsebier, Frances Benjamin Johnston, Margaret Bourke-White, Dorothea Lange, Berenice Abbott, Barbara Morgan, Diane Arbus, Alisa Wells, Judy Dater, Bea Nettles. These photographers could have been replaced by others, equally as talented but with their own styles and interests. Among those missing are Imogen Cunningham, Doris Ulmann, Anne W. Brigman, Lotte Jacobi, Laura Gilpin, Lisette Model, Mario Palfi, Naomi Savage, and Marie Cosindas, to name but a few."--Introduction.

Download or read book Through a Man's Eyes written by Shaunti Feldhahn and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Happens When Women See What Men See? You already know that your husband, boyfriend, or son is wired differently from you, but do you know what that really means? It means, among other things, that he’s been given the gift of a unique visual wiring—and the challenges that come with it. In Through a Man’s Eyes, Shaunti Feldhahn and Craig Gross team up to help open our eyes to something we are often blind to. They address questions like: · “Why are guys so visual—and what does that mean, anyway?” · “How do I help my son navigate this sex-crazed culture?” · “How dare someone tell a woman to watch what she wears! Isn’t it a man’s responsibility not to look?” · “If he’s tempted by visual images, is there something wrong with him? With me?” · “My husband is an honorable guy, so why would he be tempted by porn?” · “How can I talk to my husband or son about this? What can I do to support him?” Through the compassion and candor in this book, we can learn what men have long wished we knew (but didn’t know how to explain)—and see the difference it makes when we do!

Right when these women thought they’d be comfortably settling into middle age, their carefully curated futures have turned out to be dead ends. The sender of the invitation is Willa Silvester, who is reeling from the untimely death of her beloved husband and the reality that she must say goodbye to the small mountain town they founded together. Yet as Willa mourns her losses, an impossible question keeps staring her in the face: So now what? Struggling to find the answer alone, fiercely independent Willa eventually calls a childhood friend who happens to be in her own world of hurt—and that’s where the idea sparks. They decide to host a weeklong interlude from life, and invite two other friends facing their own quandaries. Soon the four women converge at Willa’s Montana homestead, a place where they can learn from nature and one another as they contemplate their second acts together in the rugged wilderness of big sky country.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through Angela’s Eye is the untold, inside story of Operation Firewall.” After a series of unfortunate changes in circumstances, my life took an unwelcomed turn. What started out as my personal battle against those terrorizing me by stealing my identity through my personal computer turned into the largest case of identity theft in United States history! Not only did the computer hackers cause me financial distress, but they threatened my life! Not only did I get mad, but now I was determined to get justice. Little did I realize that my journey would lead to the exposing of corruption within our own government up to the vice president and president of the US and continued right up to the UN! Once the first domino fell, a series of events began to unfold. Operation Firewall began in July 2003 as an investigation into access device fraud before expanding into an investigation of global credit card fraud and identity theft. This case led to the inception of many laws being placed on the books to prosecute those who were perpetuating the crimes. The removal of spyware, malware, and malicious web sites that were trafficking in stolen identities, spam, hacking and even pornography are some of the positive results. My account of “Operation Firewall” will make Watergate look like child’s play. It has led to over 4,000 cases and well over 64,000 arrests as of December 2005. The ramifications of this case will go on for years to come. As a result of the investigation, over $260 billion per year is being saved by taking these criminals off the streets. It was a war that was fought without weapons but used computers coupled with a woman’s intuition and common sense! Here is the inside story of “Operation Firewall,” case number SSC_2003R01260 as told by someone who is seeking Divine Justice.

There is sunshine and happiness everywhere, but it hasn't been equally distributed, and there is a very truthful little couplet which a Buddhist priest in Japan once quoted to me. Book Synopsis Story of the Eye by : Georges Bataille
Download or read book Story of the Eye written by Georges Bataille and published by Random House. This book was released on 2013-09-26 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bataille’s first novel, published under the pseudonym ‘Lord Auch’, is still his most notorious work. In this explicit pornographic fantasy, the young male narrator and his lovers Simone and Marcelle embark on a sexual quest involving sadism, torture, orgies, madness and defilement, culminating in a final act of transgression. Shocking and sacreligious, Story of the Eye is the fullest expression of Bataille’s obsession with the closeness of sex, violence and death. Yet it is also hallucinogenic in its power, and is one of the erotic classics of the twentieth century.
