This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An efficient inversion algorithm has been developed forthree-dimensional (3D) interpretations for single-hole electromagnetic(EM) logging data based on a modified extended Born approximation (MEBA)scheme. The single-hole data was collected at an oil field undergoing CO2injection in southern California using a tool, Geo-BILT, developed byElectromagnetic Instruments, Inc (EMI). The tool is equipped with amulti-component source, and an array of multi-component receivers atdifferent separations. The inversion result provides a reasonableelectrical conductivity image to a distance of 10 m from the well, andillustrates several zones with lateral conductivity variations that couldnot be resolved with traditional induction logging tools. The computercost of the inversion processes can be further reduced using a trivialmulti-grid methodology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic Sounding of the Earth's Interior 2nd edition provides a comprehensive up-to-date collection of contributions, covering methodological, computational and practical aspects of Electromagnetic sounding of the Earth by different techniques at global, regional and local scales. Moreover, it contains new developments such as the concept of self-consistent tasks of geophysics and , 3-D interpretation of the TEM sounding which, so far, have not all been covered by one book. Electromagnetic Sounding of the Earth's Interior 2nd edition consists of three parts: I- EM sounding methods, II- Forward modelling and inversion techniques, and III - Data processing, analysis, modelling and interpretation. The new edition includes brand new chapters on Pulse and frequency electromagnetic sounding for hydrocarbon offshore exploration. Additionally all other chapters have been extensively updated to include new developments. Presents recently developed methodological findings of the earth’s study, including seismoelectrical and renewed magnetovariational approaches Provides methodological guidelines for Electromagnetic data interpretation in various geological environments Contains a balanced set of lectures covering all aspects of Electromagnetic sounding at global, regional and local levels along with case studies, highlighting the practical importance of electromagnetic data Updates current findings in the field, in particular MT, magnetovariational and seismo-electrical methods and the practice of 3D interpretations

Book Synopsis Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods by : Michael S Zhdanov
Download or read book Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods written by Michael S Zhdanov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-06-12 with total page 869 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the author presents the state-of-the-art electromagnetic (EM)theories and methods employed in EM geophysical exploration. The book brings together the fundamental theory of EM fields and the practicalaspects of EM exploration for mineral and energy resources. This text is unique in its breadth and completeness in providing anoverview of EM geophysical exploration technology. The book is divided into four parts covering the foundations of EMfield theory and its applications, and emerging geophysical methods.Part I is an introduction to the field theory required for baselineunderstanding. Part II is an overview of all the basic elements ofgeophysical EM theory, from Maxwell's fundamental equations to modernmethods of modeling the EM field in complex 3-D geoelectrical formations. Part III deals with the regularized solution of ill-posedinverse electromagnetic problems, the multidimensional migration and imaging ofelectromagnetic data, and general interpretation techniques. Part IV describes major geophysical electromagnetic methods—direct current (DC), induced polarization (IP), magnetotelluric(MT), and controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) methods—and covers different applications of EM methods in exploration geophysics, includingminerals and HC exploration, environmental study, and crustal study. Presents theoretical and methodological findings, as well as examples of applications of recently developed algorithms and software in solving practical problems Describes the practical importance of electromagnetic data through enabling discussions on a construction of a closed technological cycle, processing, analysis and three-dimensional interpretation Updates current findings in the field, especially with MT, magnetovariational and seismo-electrical methods and the practice of 3D interpretations
