Book excerpt: In The Quiet Hours, Mike Melman records a vanishing era of Minnesota's towns and cities through a series of seventy black-and-white photographs taken from 1985 to 2002. Working in the half-light of predawn hours, Melman brings a new perspective to familiar places, one shaped by his training as an architect and his particular affinity for old buildings. Through his artistic and historic images, Melman exposes the speed at which American cities change and presents a gritty yet contemplative portrait of urban Minnesota.

That's what Elisabeth Towne proposes in *How to Use New Thinking in Family Life*, a work that offers a unique and practical approach to improving family relationships and the home environment. This book is not only a theoretical guide to the principles of New Thought, but a concrete manual that teaches you how to apply these teachings in everyday situations. One of the most important voices of New Thought, Towne explores how the mind influences daily life and how conscious control of thought can generate significant changes in the family environment. The author breaks down the impact of our beliefs and thoughts on home dynamics, addressing topics such as communication, raising children, and life as a couple. Through real, easy-to-understand examples, Towne shows how we can use the power of thought to resolve family conflicts, create an environment of harmony, and foster healthy relationships. One of the book's strengths is its emphasis on self-control and autosuggestion. Towne explains how our words and thoughts have the power to shape our reality, and suggests that by consciously applying these principles, it is possible to improve relationships with loved ones. Furthermore, the author insists that the teachings of New Thought are not only a tool for personal development, but a philosophy of life applicable to all areas, especially the family. Each chapter offers concrete strategies to manage stress, improve communication, and cultivate emotional well-being within the home. Towne not only focuses on the individual, but also highlights the importance of working as a team as a family, proposing a collaborative approach to overcome daily challenges. The central idea is that true peace and happiness in the home do not depend on external factors, but on the mental attitude and beliefs that each person carries with them. In the end, the book invites readers to see family life from a perspective of continuous growth, where every challenge is an opportunity to improve. Towne demonstrates that, with dedication and consistent application of New Thought principles, any home can become a place of love, respect, and mutual cooperation. If you want to discover how to change the atmosphere of your home and improve your family relationships, this book is an essential tool. Take action and start applying New Thought principles to transform your family life today.

This book was released on 2015-09-09 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In arguing for the crucial importance of song for poets in the long nineteenth century, Elizabeth Helsinger focuses on both the effects of song on lyric forms and the mythopoetics through which poets explored the affinities of poetry with song. Looking in particular at individual poets and poems, Helsinger puts extensive close readings into productive conversation with nineteenth-century German philosophic and British scientific aesthetics. While she considers poets long described as "musical"—Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Gerard Manly Hopkins, Emily Brontë, and Algernon Charles Swinburne—Helsinger also examines the more surprising importance of song for those poets who rethought poetry through the medium of visual art: Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Morris, and Christina Rossetti. In imitating song’s forms and sound textures through lyric’s rhythm, rhyme, and repetition, these poets were pursuing song’s "thought" in a double sense. They not only asked readers to think of particular kinds of song as musical sound in social performance (ballads, national airs, political songs, plainchant) but also invited readers to think like song: to listen to the sounds of a poem as it moves minds in a different way from philosophy or science. By attending to the formal practices of these poets, the music to which the poets were listening, and the stories and myths out of which each forged a poetics that aspired to the condition of music, Helsinger suggests new ways to think about the nature and form of the lyric in the nineteenth century.
