Book Synopsis Working environment and work retention by : Johann Fridrik Fridriksson
Download or read book Working environment and work retention written by Johann Fridrik Fridriksson and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The project shows that the working environment is rarely the sole cause of early retirement, but working environment factors may explain a large fraction of the transition to disability pension in particular. Several working environment predictors of early retirement are well-documented in the Nordic countries, but workplace policies and activities to retain older workers rarely aim to improve the working environment. There may be great potentials in developing workplace interventions which combine prevention of working environment risk factors (e.g. risk factors for accidents, strenuous work/high physical work demands, insufficient recovery between work shifts, quantitative work demands, conflicts at work and bullying/harassment, and age discrimination) with increment of job satisfaction through increased control/influence, possibilities for development and recognition from management.
Book Synopsis Old Norse Poetry in Performance by : Brian McMahon
Download or read book Old Norse Poetry in Performance written by Brian McMahon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-05-02 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a range of approaches to the study of Old Norse poetry in performance. The contributors examine both eddic and skaldic poems and consider the surviving evidence for how they were originally recited or otherwise performed in medieval Scandinavia, Iceland and at royal courts across Europe. This study also engages with the challenge of reconstructing medieval performance styles and examines ways of applying the modern discipline of Performance Studies to the fragmentary corpus of Old Norse verse. The performance of verse by characters who appear in the Old Icelandic saga tradition is also considered, as is the cultural value associated not only with the poems themselves but with their various means of transmission and reception. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars in the fields of Old Norse studies, Performance and Theatre History.

Book Synopsis A Vikings Havamal by : Dylon Lawrence
Download or read book A Vikings Havamal written by Dylon Lawrence and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-02-27 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Havamal, Verse 52: You don't have to give large or expensive gifts away, gifts with sentimental value are best; half a loaf of bread and a horn of ale won me many friendships. Hail to the reader! The Havamal is one of the most sacred texts for modern Scandinavian descendants who wish to learn more about their Norse ancestral philosophy. The literature of the Havamal stayed alive amongst old Scandinavia, due to the fact that all stories were passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth. The Havamal is a collection of advice and verses believed to have been handed down by Odin to the Norse people. I have attempted my best to translate these ancient words into modern-day English most speakers could understand, while only interpreting the meaning of words into understandable grammar for English. While also not trying to tamper with the practical structure, integrity and flow of the original verses using "wisdom plus proof equals truth".

Book Synopsis Glycemic Index from Research to Nutrition Recommendations by : Nordic Council of Ministers
Download or read book Glycemic Index from Research to Nutrition Recommendations written by Nordic Council of Ministers and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Epidemiological and intervention studies have increased both public and expert awareness of the possible importance of blood sugar regulation and the varying glycemic index of foods in the etiology and treatment of chronic diseases. Generally a low glycemic index diet is considered beneficial due to less incremental increase in blood levels of glucose than with a high glycemic index diet. Nordic dietary habits include a large number of carbohydrate rich food items, many of which are likely to fall into the category of high glycemic index. Evaluation of the evidence and the practical implications of these studies on nutrition recommendations have to be clarified. The report sheds a light to the strengths and weaknesses of the glycemic index.
