Book excerpt: "Do you plan to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you, Andrew?"Have you ever found yourself on life's witness stand? The jurors are your readers. Seated in the audience are your family, friends, acquaintances, and associates. The plaintiff is your future; the defendant is your past. On the witness stand, you are going to walk people down a road you've traveled. You are about to tell the entire truth about yourself. Prepare to reveal private moments in your life that you'd always thought no one would ever know. Andrew's black book journal was given to him to write down visions and dreams; however, his very first journal entry was filled with questions, insecurities, and doubt. His journal writings became therapeutic. He opened up a portal to questions that only his experiences could answer. These are not fantasy stories to impress people. This experience led him to heal the wounded areas in his life and reconcile any hurts he caused others. For every lie he publicly expressed, Andrew's truth was written down on pages. "This is Y I Lied" is the unveiling of many masks worn over the years. Prepare to embrace Andrew's truth, his journal, and his journey.

Book excerpt: When the major powers sent troops to the Korean peninsula in June of 1950, it supposedly marked the start of one of the last century's bloodiest conflicts. In volume 1, Allan Millett, however, reveals that the Korean War actually began with partisan clashes two years earlier and had roots in the political history of Korea under Japanese rule, 1910-1945. In volume 2, he shifts his focus to the twelve-month period from North Korea's invasion of South Korea on June 25, 1950, through the end of June 1951 -- the most active phase of the internationalized "Korean War."

Book Synopsis New Developments in Lie Theory and Geometry by : Carolyn Gordon
Download or read book New Developments in Lie Theory and Geometry written by Carolyn Gordon and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is an outgrowth of the Sixth Workshop on Lie Theory and Geometry, held in the province of Cordoba, Argentina in November 2007. The representation theory and structure theory of Lie groups play a pervasive role throughout mathematics and physics. Lie groups are tightly intertwined with geometry and each stimulates developments in the other. The aim of this volume is to bring to a larger audience the mutually beneficial interaction between Lie theorists and geometers that animated the workshop. Two prominent themes of the representation theoretic articles are Gelfand pairs and the representation theory of real reductive Lie groups. Among the more geometric articles are an exposition of major recent developments on noncompact homogeneous Einstein manifolds and aspects of inverse spectral geometry presented in settings accessible to readers new to the area.
Book Synopsis Lie Groups, Physics, and Geometry by : Robert Gilmore
Download or read book Lie Groups, Physics, and Geometry written by Robert Gilmore and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-01-17 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describing many of the most important aspects of Lie group theory, this book presents the subject in a 'hands on' way. Rather than concentrating on theorems and proofs, the book shows the applications of the material to physical sciences and applied mathematics. Many examples of Lie groups and Lie algebras are given throughout the text. The relation between Lie group theory and algorithms for solving ordinary differential equations is presented and shown to be analogous to the relation between Galois groups and algorithms for solving polynomial equations. Other chapters are devoted to differential geometry, relativity, electrodynamics, and the hydrogen atom. Problems are given at the end of each chapter so readers can monitor their understanding of the materials. This is a fascinating introduction to Lie groups for graduate and undergraduate students in physics, mathematics and electrical engineering, as well as researchers in these fields.

Book Synopsis Simple Lie Algebras Over Fields of Positive Characteristic: Structure theory by : Helmut Strade
Download or read book Simple Lie Algebras Over Fields of Positive Characteristic: Structure theory written by Helmut Strade and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2004 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of classifying the finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras over fields of characteristic p > 0 is a long-standing one. Work on this question during the last 45 years has been directed by the Kostrikin-Shafarevich Conjecture of 1966, which states that over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p > 5 a finite-dimensional restricted simple Lie algebra is classical or of Cartan type. This conjecture was proved for p > 7 by Block and Wilson in 1988. The generalization of the Kostrikin-Shafarevich Conjecture for the general case of not necessarily restricted Lie algebras and p > 7 was announced in 1991 by Strade and Wilson and eventually proved by Strade in 1998. The final Block-Wilson-Strade-Premet Classification Theorem is a landmark result of modern mathematics and can be formulated as follows: Every finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p > 3 is of classical, Cartan, or Melikian type. In the three-volume book, the author is assembling the proof of the Classification Theorem with explanations and references. The goal is a state-of-the-art account on the structure and classification theory of Lie algebras over fields of positive characteristic leading to the forefront of current research in this field. This first volume is devoted to preparing the ground for the classification work to be performed in the second and third volume. The concise presentation of the general theory underlying the subject matter and the presentation of classification results on a subclass of the simple Lie algebras for all odd primesmake this volume an invaluable source and reference for all research mathematicians and advanced graduate students in albegra.
