Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a collection of happy, nourishing hero-cat and loving human family historical, adventure, and time-travel stories and novels for all holidays...in spite of the wars. It's Christmas. It's Hannukah. It's Ramadan. It's all holidays, and time for an adventure. For example, take the Silk Road stories: "For where there's worship, there's more trade," Baghatur added. The next morning was another hot day in July, and Bihar went along the road between the fields of wheat. Women were starting to work the fields again. The children carried sheaves on their heads. Everything had to be done by hand. In Nablus, life went with no work. The food was gone, and not enough healers yet. So Bihar was welcome to mix his herbs and alchemy because they made miracles. He passed an old farmer wearing a large Greek cross. "Keev Halik?" In Arabic Bihar asked the man how he was. "Forget me," the farmer waved back. "Your crops are still rotting?" Bihar asked as he walked toward Jerusalem. "I had to sell my farm cheap." The farmer laughed tensely. "So did my forefathers in Sarkel," Bihar answered, with a pointed finger. "Are you a Cherkessk Mountaineer?" "What difference would it make to you from where I come? Does the left side of the Sea mean more to you than the right side of it? There's enough fish at both ends to feed the world." "Where are you going?" The farmer shielded his eyes from the sun with his hands. "I'm going to Jerusalem."

Book Synopsis Mixed-Race Superheroes by : Sika A. Dagbovie-Mullins
Download or read book Mixed-Race Superheroes written by Sika A. Dagbovie-Mullins and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-16 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American culture has long represented mixed-race identity in paradoxical terms. On the one hand, it has been associated with weakness, abnormality, impurity, transgression, shame, and various pathologies; however, it can also connote genetic superiority, exceptional beauty, and special potentiality. This ambivalence has found its way into superhero media, which runs the gamut from Ant-Man and the Wasp’s tragic mulatta villain Ghost to the cinematic depiction of Aquaman as a heroic “half-breed.” The essays in this collection contend with the multitude of ways that racial mixedness has been presented in superhero comics, films, television, and literature. They explore how superhero media positions mixed-race characters within a genre that has historically privileged racial purity and propagated images of white supremacy. The book considers such iconic heroes as Superman, Spider-Man, and The Hulk, alongside such lesser-studied characters as Valkyrie, Dr. Fate, and Steven Universe. Examining both literal and symbolic representations of racial mixing, this study interrogates how we might challenge and rewrite stereotypical narratives about mixed-race identity, both in superhero media and beyond.

Download or read book The Last Human written by Zack Jordan and published by Del Rey. This book was released on 2020-03-24 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last human in the universe must battle unfathomable alien intelligences—and confront the truth about humanity—in this ambitious, galaxy-spanning debut “A good old-fashioned space opera in a thoroughly fresh package.”—Andy Weir, author of The Martian “Big ideas and believable science amid a roller-coaster ride of aliens, AI, superintelligence, and the future of humanity.”—Dennis E. Taylor, author of We Are Legion Most days, Sarya doesn’t feel like the most terrifying creature in the galaxy. Most days, she’s got other things on her mind. Like hiding her identity among the hundreds of alien species roaming the corridors of Watertower Station. Or making sure her adoptive mother doesn’t casually eviscerate one of their neighbors. Again. And most days, she can almost accept that she’ll never know the truth—that she’ll never know why humanity was deemed too dangerous to exist. Or whether she really is—impossibly—the lone survivor of a species destroyed a millennium ago. That is, until an encounter with a bounty hunter and a miles-long kinetic projectile leaves her life and her perspective shattered. Thrown into the universe at the helm of a stolen ship—with the dubious assistance of a rebellious spacesuit, an android death enthusiast on his sixtieth lifetime, and a ball of fluff with an IQ in the thousands—Sarya begins to uncover an impossible truth. What if humanity’s death and her own existence are simply two moves in a demented cosmic game, one played out by vast alien intellects? Stranger still, what if these mad gods are offering Sarya a seat at their table—and a second chance for humanity? The Last Human is a sneakily brilliant, gleefully oddball space-opera debut—a masterful play on perspective, intelligence, and free will, wrapped in a rollicking journey through a strange and crowded galaxy.
