Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In This Flame Within Manijeh Moradian revises conventional histories of Iranian migration to the United States as a post-1979 phenomenon characterized by the flight of pro-Shah Iranians from the Islamic Republic and recounts the experiences of Iranian foreign students who joined a global movement against US imperialism during the 1960s and 1970s. Drawing on archival evidence and in-depth interviews with members of the Iranian Students Association, Moradian traces what she calls “revolutionary affects”—the embodied force of affect generated by experiences of repression and resistance—from encounters with empire and dictatorship in Iran to joint organizing with other student activists in the United States. Moradian theorizes “affects of solidarity” that facilitated Iranian student participation in a wide range of antiracist and anticolonial movements and analyzes gendered manifestations of revolutionary affects within the emergence of Third World feminism. Arguing for a transnational feminist interpretation of the Iranian Student Association’s legacy, Moradian demonstrates how the recognition of multiple sources of oppression in the West and in Iran can reorient Iranian diasporic politics today.

He lays out the tumultuous events that led him as a youth into the profession, and the wealth of eye-opening experiences along the way. He plumbs the character of the firefighters and paramedics who answer the call for rescue--but also the character of those who make the call, the rescuer and the rescued. The author keeps the reader close with vivid details of fighting fire and dealing with the anguish of loss and destruction. He pulls no punches; he also describes the promotion process, the politics in stations and in the service as a whole, the struggle of teaching young firefighters, and the heavy price of dedication. The book fully displays the humanity of members of the fire service and the flavor of fire service tradition.

Aralon is accompanied by Darvin Hegg, his former instructor and now his second officer, and Kiyana Irhan, a Mist Elf from beyond the reaches of the Garden. Join them as they attempt to end the Garden's civil war and are propelled into a conflict more profound than any had ever imagined .

Book excerpt: If you are reading this right now you have been guided here by a higher power for a reason. Nothing in life is a coincidence. Now I must warn you, this is a love story told like no other. This a not just a love story to finding your soulmate or twin flame, but the path back to finding yourself and the love within. The truth is, if you can't love yourself, who can love you in the way that you deserve to be loved? This is my personal diary as to how my entire life changed with a thirty-second hug. Yes, a hug that triggered a kundalini spiritual awakening. As I hugged this person who I had not seen in over twenty years, I felt this fireball of energy ignite within my root chakra, and within seconds that fireball of energy shot out the top of my head like a firework. I felt a burning feeling through my entire body. As he walked away to get in the truck to go home, I thought, "Why are you leaving me here? Take me home with you. I love you." Weird thought to have, considering I was married and had been with the same person for fourteen years at that time. As this person I hugged drove out of sight, I felt as if my heart had been thrown out of my chest and stabbed to death. I went back inside my house. Nothing seemed right anymore. I became very sick and tired. I felt like a completely different person. The rose-coloured glasses came off and I saw my life for what it really was. This was the beginning of my journey into the dark night of the soul. Throughout this book I explain exactly what happened to me. Everything from the kundalini spiritual awakening, spirit, chakras, telepathic communication, different soul connections, dream-sharing, astral travel, past-life regression, different types of therapy, reprocessing trauma on a soul level, healing inner-child wounds, manifestation, how to control spiritual gifts, leaving an abuse cycle and so much more. If you are currently looking outside yourself for your soulmate or twin flame, I encourage you to read my book. If you have already found your twin flame, I hope my story can help you on your journey. If you are are seeking guidance for any spiritual awakening or looking to enhance your spiritual gifts, I have tips throughout the book as to what I did to embrace my gift instead of fear it. My story may sound crazy, and to be honest when I read it I can't believe all of this stuff is actually happening to me. I admit it can be unbelievable at times, as these things can be scary. I assure you this is all 100% true-this is real, this is me. This is my story . . .

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: St. John of the Cross described the stanzas of his poem, The Living Flame of Love, as the “songs of the soul in the intimate communication of the union of love with God.” The verses capture the mystical vistas from the summit of the saint’s spiritual journey, describing the mystery and powerful experience of divine transformation as the soul encounters and unites with the pure love of God. After the poem’s composition and at the request of his friend, the laywoman Doña Ana de Peñalosa, St. John of the Cross wrote the prose commentary that represents his final word on the journey of the soul’s transformation toward union with God. In these verses and commentary, our saintly guide teaches us as the “Mystical Doctor of the Church,” but also as a gentle pastor. Readers can aptly place themselves in the position of Doña Ana—a fellow soul on this journey of transformation in God’s grace—following this holy shepherd along the narrow paths of purification toward our eternal dwelling place in God and union with him. In this study edition, Father Kieran Kavanaugh, O.C.D., offers important context and contemporary interpretive notes concerning the teaching of St. John of the Cross in The Living Flame of Love. This edition includes: Study guides provided throughout the book, which provide helpful guidance and explanation; A glossary of terms offering definitions as they pertain to John’s specific usage throughout the work; Comprehensive indexes of key themes and biblical references, which make this edition an indispensable reference resource. With the combination of a modern scholarly translation of St. John of the Cross’s text and a contemporary commentary, The Living Flame of Love: Study Edition affords readers the opportunity to gain a much deeper appreciation for the beauty and richness of St. John’s perennial teaching on the experience and science of love.

Originally published in 1922, The Initiates of the Flame is Hall’s first exploration—and still one of his most powerful—of myth and symbol. Its pages shine on a light on the inner meaning of symbols including the pyramid, holy grail, flame of wisdom, ark of the covenant, all-seeing eye, sword and stone, the elements of alchemy, and other gateways to the unseen world. Edited and reintroduced by popular voice of esoteric spirituality, Mitch Horowitz, and president of the Philosophical Research Society, Greg Salyer, Ph.D., this is the signature presentation of Hall’s landmark.

Edited and reintroduced by popular voice of esoteric spirituality, Mitch Horowitz, and president of the Philosophical Research Society, Greg Salyer, Ph.D., this is the signature presentation of Hall’s landmark. Manly Palmer Hall (18 March 1901 – 29 August 1990) was a Canadian author, lecturer, astrologer, mystic and Freemason. Over his 70-year career he gave thousands of lectures and published over 150 volumes, of which the best known is The Secret Teachings of All Ages (1928). In 1934 he founded the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles. Early life Hall was born in 1901 in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, to Louise Palmer Hall, a chiropractor and member of the Rosicrucian Fellowship, and William S. Hall, a dentist. Hall is said to have never known his father. In 1919, Hall moved to Los Angeles to reunite with his birth mother who was living in Santa Monica. After moving in with her, he very soon after became drawn to mysticism, esoteric philosophies and their underlying principles. Career: In 1919, Hall took over as preacher of the Church of the People, located at Trinity Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles. Less than a year later, Hall booked his first lecture on the topic of reincarnation.: 15–18 Hall was ordained a minister in the Church of the People on May 17, 1923. Only a few days after his ordination, he was elected "permanent pastor" of the church. His first publications consisted of two small pamphlets, The Breastplate of the High Priest (1920) and Wands and Serpents (1927). Between 1922 and 1923 he wrote three books: The Initiates of the Flame (1922), The Ways of the Lonely Ones (1922), and The Lost Keys of Freemasonry (1923).
